Swedish writer inspires H&M collaboration

Swedish retailer launches The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo clothing line in time for U.S. film premiere.

In December, Swedish retail giant H&M will launch a new clothing line inspired by the main character of the bestselling Stieg Larsson books, Lisbeth Salander of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, also the subject of a new U.S. film adaptation, reports NY Daily News.

The retailer collaborated with the American costume designer Trish Summerville to create a capsule collection.

“We are Swedish, this movie has a lot to do with Sweden, which is unusual for Hollywood,” said H&M creative director Donald Schneider in a behind-the-scenes video. “Let’s do something together.”

Inspired exclusively by the gritty street style of the film’s main character, Lisbeth Salander, the 30-piece collection includes leather jackets, pants and boots, in addition to tribal earrings, ripped jeans, and hoodies

“We took definitely her basic pieces that we used throughout the film and did a little bit more fashionable version for each of them,” said Summerville.

Summing up the character’s appeal, Anna Norling at H&M said, “Lisbeth Salander…is the very essence of the independent woman and I think it’s fantastic that, from the film’s point of view and from H&M’s point of view, we’re all very happy with the result.”

The new clothing line will land in H&M stores on December 14, just in time for the film’s premiere on December 21.
