Bell once again offering $55/20GB plan in email to former customers

Bell is once again offering some former customers a $55/mo 20GB plan.

In an email sent out to former customers (including myself), Bell offered the “exclusive rate plan,” which comes in at $30/mo less than its in-market ‘Essential’ plan — that plan costs $85/mo and includes 25GB of data.

Bell’s exclusive plan includes 20GB of shareable data at up to 250Mbps speed. Beyond the 20GB, customers can continue using data at a reduced speed of up to 512Kbps. The plan also includes unlimited Canada-wide calling, texting, picture, and video messages. Moreover, the plan limits streaming video to standard definition — you can pay an extra $5/mo to “boost to [Bell’s] fastest available 5G speeds & HD video,” although apparently, you can use a VPN to bypass this limit instead.

Moreover, the Bell email notes that you can extend the offer to up to two family members. The email includes three promo codes to get the offer, which is available until January 31st, 2023.

Excerpt from Bell’s email about the $55/20GB plan.

Bell previously offered the same deal in late December, seemingly as part of its Boxing Week offers, although it was still restricted to former Bell customers. Moreover, in 2021 Bell sent letters to former customers offering a nearly identical $55/20GB plan. (Arguably, the 2021 version of the deal was better since that was before Bell added speed caps to its plans.)

Anyway, former Bell customers should keep an eye out for an email with this offer — it could be well worth switching. At least, it will be for those who didn’t nab a $45/50GB plan during Black Friday.

Bell offering former customers a $55/20GB plan for Boxing Week

Bell is sending out a special Boxing Week offer to some former customers offering a $30/mo discount on its ‘Unlimited Essential’ plan, making it $55/mo for 20GB of data.

Moreover, the email notes the offer can be extended to up to two family members, meaning you get sign three people up total with 20GB of shareable data each. The plan includes:

  • 20GB of shareable 5G data with speeds up to 250Mbps
  • Unlimited data at throttled speeds of up to 512Kbps beyond the 20GB cap
  • Unlimited Canada-wide calling, texting, picture, and video messaging

Overall, it’s not a bad deal if you can get it. Former Bell customers should keep an eye out for an email like this from Bell. For what it’s worth though, I’m sticking with my Black Friday $45/50GB offer since it’s cheaper and I get more data per month (the only thing I really lose out on is 5G but, having had Bell 5G before, it’s a blessing not to have it).

Lucky Mobile adds $55/mo 20GB plan for a limited time

Bell’s Lucky Mobile has replaced its $60/15GB and $70/20GB with a limited-time offer of $55/mo for 20GB.

The change appears to be an effort to match Telus’ Public Mobile, which recently launched a $55/20GB Student Plan.

Lucky’s plan includes the following:

  • Unlimited calls Canada-wide and to the U.S.
  • Unlimited Canada-wide and international texts
  • 20GB of data at 3GB speeds (customers can get an extra 500MB each month with automatic payments)
  • Unlimited additional data at reduced speeds of up to 128Kbps after using the 20GB allotment
  • Call display, unlimited incoming calls and texts, voicemail, call waiting, and three-way calling

While 3G data speeds are a bummer, it’s hard to beat 20GB of data. Still, Public’s student plan boasts 4G data but now unlimited data, so really it comes down to whether you need a limited amount of fast data or an unlimited amount of slow data.

You can check out Lucky’s plans here.

Rogers offers $55/mo 20GB student plan

Rogers rolled out a back-to-school offer for students: a $55/mo 20GB plan with unlimited data and 5G access.

The Toronto-based national telecom details the special student offer on its website, but RedFlagDeals also highlighted the offer with some additional details about how the discounts work. To start, it’s important to note that the deal is only for students, and you need a valid student ID and proof of enrollment to get it.

Next, Rogers’ website notes the discounted plan only last 24 months and notes customers will need to sign up for Automatic Payments to get a $5/mo discount to hit the advertised price. The Rogers website also suggests students need to finance a device to quality.

RFD adds some clarity here, noting that there’s a $25/mo discount (with no expiration), the $5/mo Automatic Payment discount, and another $5/mo discount that lasts 24 months. These discounts take the $90/mo 20GB plan down to $55/mo. However, the $90 plan mentioned by RFD doesn’t seem to exist — at the time of writing, Rogers’ website only had an $85/25GB plan and $95/45GB plan.

It’s possible this discrepancy stems from the source of the deal — the RFD post mentions the deal is only available at retailers like Wow Mobile, Wireless Wave, Costco, BestBuy, and others, whereas the Rogers offer is, well, the Rogers offer.

There also may be some one-time fees at the beginning; Rogers notes there’s a $50 ‘Setup Service Fee,’ but that gets waived if you get the plan through self-serve or Rogers’ website. Additionally, Rogers’ website says a “one-time fee of $50 may apply for existing customers in addition to the Setup Service Fee.”

Despite all the confusion and weirdness around discounts and setup fees, it seems there’s a $55/mo 20GB plan available from Rogers for students. But, if you’d rather not deal with all that, Koodo, Fido, and Virgin Plus all have $60/20GB plans and a $5/mo discount for 12 months, making the plans $55/20GB (at least for the first year). That might be a better option for most, especially if you don’t need 5G or a new phone.

You can check out the Rogers offer here.

Koodo reportedly offering $55/20GB plan with phone purchase to some customers

Telus flanker brand Koodo reportedly has a fairly excellent offer available for new and existing customers looking to get a new phone.

According to a RedFlagDeals post from ‘martiandagroot,’ some Koodo locations have a $55/month 20GB plan on offer for customers who get a new phone. The deal is available for both new and existing customers, but new customers can get an extra $10/mo discount for two years, bringing the plan to $45/20GB.

Martiandagroot mentions that the plan was available at the Eglinton Square shopping centre Koodo location, as well as at the Cedarbrae Mall. However, another RFD user, ‘BuildBuyBreed,’ chimed in to say they had the $55/20GB offer listed in their online account. Unfortunately, the plan was only available with a phone upgrade, and BuildBuyBreed says they couldn’t check out and now the promo is no longer listed.

A few other RFD users shared posts saying they also saw the offer online, but for some it was limited to Quebec. Other posts claim the $55/20GB deal is only available for Ontario numbers.

All this is to say that there’s some confusion among RFD posters about the specifics of the deal. That said, if you happen to live near a Koodo location and can get this offer, that’s great. But, keep in mind that your mileage may vary.
