Hugh Jackman to Host Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected Australian actor Hugh Jackman to host the Oscar ceremony on February 22 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

In the past, the academy has typically chosen comedians to host the event, such as Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres or Billy Crystal.  This time, it seems that the job will be in the hands of a more serious person.

Jackman has experience being on stage at awards ceremonies.  In 2003 and 2005, he was a presenter for the Tony Awards, and he was also on stage for the Emmy Awards in 2005.

Jackman can next be seen playing Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, opening in theatres on May 1, 2009.

Date Set for Oscars

The 78th ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2006.  The date is a week later than normal in order to avoid a clash with the televised 2006 Winter Olympics.

In addition to the change in date, the ceremony will also kick off a half hour earlier than last year, starting now at 8:00.  The event will be held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
