Last night (January 5), the Twilight vampire saga maintained its dominant position in pop culture when it won big at the People’s Choice Awards, reports People.
Eclipse, the third film adaptation based on the popular series of vampire romance books by Stephenie Meyer, received four awards, including favourite movie, beating out popular films like Toy Story 3, The Social Network and Inception.
During the event, held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Eclipse won the People’s Choice award for favourite drama movie and favourite on-screen team, while lead actress, Kristen Stewart, who played the role of Bella Swan, edged out Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston in the category of favourite movie actress.
Her co-stars, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, were not able to dislodge Johnny Depp from the favourite movie actor category. Depp took home the award for his role as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. Pattinson was also nominated for favourite movie star under 25, but the award went to actor Zac Efron.
In the comedy categories, Adam Sandler received the award for favourite comedic star, while his film Grown Ups was named favourite comedy movie. For television shows, House M.D. trumped the Glee musical series, winning three awards for the series and lead actors Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein.
Musically, rapper Eminem was the big winner, receiving the award for favourite male artist, favourite hip-hop artist, as well as favourite song and music video for Love the Way You Lie featuring Rihanna.
