Chief Inspector Armand Gamache he investigates a string of murders in a small Canadian village.

Three Pines is based on Toronto author Louise Penny’s Armand Gamache novels and stars Alfred Molina (The Normal Heart), Vancouver’s Roussif Sutherland (Reign), Cardston, Alberta’s Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Night Raiders) and Anzac, Alberta’s Tantoo Cardinal (Dances with Wolves). The series was also filmed in Quebec.

It’s worth noting that a film dramatization of these events, Sugar, premiered on Amazon Prime Video a couple of weeks ago.

Sugar [Amazon Original]

Sugar is based on the true story of two Quebecer influencers, dubbed the “Cocaine Cowgirls,” who were convicted in 2018 of smuggling cocaine into Sydney, Australia aboard a luxury cruise ship.

Notably, Sugar is Prime Video’s first Canadian feature film, was directed by Indian-Canadian filmmaker Vic Sarin (Partition) and stars Katherine McNamara (Shadowhunters) and Vancouver’s Jasmine Sky Sarin. It was also filmed in Montreal.

Sugar is one of several Canadian originals that Amazon has been developing.

Amazon Prime Video announces cast for Quebec’s LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier?

Amazon has revealed the full cast for LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier?, its Quebec spin-off of the Last One Laughing comedy series.

The series, which got a Jay Baruchel-hosted Canada-wide version earlier this year, follows a group of 10 comedians as they try to make each other laugh without cracking up themselves. As previously confirmed, Patrick Huard (Good Cop, Bon Cop) is hosting LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier?, and we now know it will feature the following comedians:

It’s one of several Canadian original titles in the works at Prime Video, including the Three Pines mystery series starring Alfred Molina, a Jamie Lee Curtis-produced comedy series about The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist and a Mike Downie-directed film about The Tragically Hip and his late brother, Gord Downie.
