Amazon to hold a second Prime Day in the fourth quarter of 2022

Amazon recently confirmed that Prime Day will take place on July 12th in Canada. Now, according to a report from CNBC News, Amazon will hold a second Prime Day in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The information comes via a notice that was viewed by CNBC that suggests that the company is planning to hold a “Prime Fall deal event” in the fourth quarter, making 2022 the only year where Amazon holds two shopping events exclusively for Prime members.

The report also suggests that Amazon has already started notifying third-party sellers about the reportedly upcoming event through its ‘Sellar Central’ portal, asking them to send in their “lightning deals” for the event by July 22nd. “The Prime Fall deal event is a prime-exclusive shopping event coming in Q4,” reads the notice procured by CNBC. “Submit recommended Lightning Deals for this event for a chance to have your deal selected!”

Amazon had delayed Prime Day in Canada in 2020, and outright cancelled it in 2021, though it seems like users would get not one, but two chances to grab their favourite tech gear at a majorly discounted price later next month and again in fall.

It’s worth noting that the report doesn’t explicitly mention that the event will take place in Canada as well, though considering that the last two Prime Days were delayed and cancelled in Canada, it would be prudent for Amazon to offer the event to shoppers North of their border.

We will have more information about the reportedly upcoming event if Amazon confirms it in the near future.

Amazon’s satellite internet service could be coming to Canada

Amazon wants Project Kuiper to service Canadians.

Kuiper Systems, also known as Project Kuiper, is a set of satellites Amazon plans to launch to provide broadband internet connectivity to people all over the world.

Project Kuiper is on the Canadian Radion-television and Telecommunications Commission’s (CRTC) current list of proceedings open for comment.

The CRTC governs telecom companies and their access to the Canadian market and submitting a proceeding for comment is an early step to getting regulatory approval.

Announced in 2019, Project Kuiper has yet to officially launch the satellites. But that hasn’t stopped the company from gaining regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. or announcing a partnership with Verizon.

The project is directly competing against SpaceX’s Starlink service, which is already available to Canadians. Starlink started launching satellites in 2019, the same year Amazon announced Project Kuiper.

Amazon has already signed deals for 83 launches under the project over the next five years.

Canadians have until July 18th to provide a comment.

Amazon confirms Prime Day is July 12 in Canada

Amazon has confirmed that this year’s Prime Day will run from 3am ET on July 12th through to July 13th for Prime Members in Canada.

The company says that early Prime Day deals start June 21st and include discounts on products from Casper, Beats, iRobot, SharkNinja, Amazon Essentials, Levis, Adidas, Sony, Bose and more.

Last year’s Prime Day was cancelled amid the still-persistent COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, the retailer said that the annual deal fest was cancelled so that the retailer could focus “on the health and safety” of its employees. Before outright cancelling Prime Day, Amazon delayed the event in May.

The e-commerce giant was heavily criticized during the height of the pandemic due to several COVID-19-related outbreaks at its Canadian distribution warehouses.

Amazon says it will also hold Prime Day in the U.S., Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, the U.K., Poland and Sweden.

An Amazon Prime membership costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year.
