TD to introduce loyalty program that turns points on everyday purchases to currency at select stores

TD will soon be introducing a new loyalty program to its customers.

The news came during the banking giant’s TD Tech Day event, an annual occurrence that invites media to preview the bank’s new initiatives.

The rewards program will be embedded within TD’s mobile banking app and allow customers to earn points on purchases they make through various retail vendors. It’s not clear what vendors will take part in the program.

Imran Khan, head of global innovation at TD, told MobileSyrup the app is an evolution of the data-driven experience launched a couple of years ago. That allowed customers to view spending patterns and estimates of their financial situations weeks down the road.

David Reilly, VP of partnerships and loyalty at the institution’s credit card department, says the program will use spending trends, and customer needs to provide people with recommendations on where they can collect and spend points.

“We’re making the investment to do it right within our core mobile banking app, really making it easy for customers to redeem their points in areas that matter to them,” Reilly said.

The program has three areas of focus. The first is connecting loyalty experiences digitally. The second focuses on balancing aspirational experiences with everyday rewards. Reilly explained customers are looking for flexibility in their rewards programs, which allows people to redeem points on various things, like travel or a simple coffee. The third area is for the program to evolve as customer preferences change to stay fresh and relevant.

The program has different tiers of loyalty experiences with opportunities to enhance how many points are earned. This feature won’t be present when the program is launched but will be part of the complete experience of the program.

While TD does have similar options, such as its points program with Amazon, it’s limited to who can access it. Only customers with one of four Visa credit cards can collect points through Amazon purchases that can be used to pay for products.

Khan says this program will be different. “Everyone will have access to a selection of benefits,” regardless of what card they hold.

Amazon’s big-budget The Lord of the Rings series gets September premiere, official title

Amazon has confirmed the premiere date and title for its upcoming The Lord of the Rings live-action series.

The series, officially titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, will debut on Prime Video on September 2nd.

Amazon has spent $250 million USD (about $312 million CAD) on The Rings of Power‘s first season alone, making it the most expensive series ever made. The company has reportedly committed to five seasons, which would push the series’ budget past $1 billion USD (about $1.25 billion CAD) when all is said and done.

As the name suggests, the first season, which will run for eight episodes, will tell the story of the forging of the titular rings that would eventually be wielded by Sauron. This means it takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

See below for the series’ official synopsis:

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Apple’s AirPods Max available for an all time low on Amazon

If you’re looking to add Apple’s AirPods Max to your arsenal of headphones, now might be the perfect chance.

Amazon Canada has Apple’s AirPods Max on sale for $620.52, down from their regular $779 price. This is a discount of $158.48 or about 20 percent. While not the most significant price drop ever, this is a decent offer, and the cheapest the AirPods Max has ever been listed. Prior to today, the lowest the headphones have been listed was for $661.45.

It’s worth noting that Amazon only has the ‘Silver’ variant on discount, but that shouldn’t be an issue considering that its a staple Apple colour that goes well with everything.

Learn more about the AirPods Max in Patrick O’Rourke’s review, where he gave the headphones a 7.5 rating. Purchase the AirPods Max from Amazon for $620.52 here.

Amazon reveals ‘The Boys’ season 3 premieres on June 3rd

Amazon has confirmed that the third season of The Boys will stream on Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd, with new episodes releasing every Friday.

Based on the brief snippet shown during Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman, a meta tie-in TV show related to The Boys, Season 3 seems set to continue to follow the dysfunctional corporate-run conglomerate that is the Seven. Towards the end of the clip, Homelander (Antony Starr) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) seem to be struggling to keep up their typically sunny dispositions.

As far as superhero-related TV shows/movies go, The Boys is one of the few that really appeals to me. I’ve always found it difficult to engage in most Marvel/DC television shows and movies because from my perspective, they often don’t feel like they’re grounded in reality. The Boys, however, totally is in several ways that I won’t go into due to spoilers.

Take it from someone who often decries that they “hate superhero stuff,” The Boys is worth watching.

The first two seasons of The Boys are available to stream on Prime Video.

An Amazon Prime Video subscription is included at no additional cost with an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $79/year.
