Andrew Garfield’s gay confession

Andrew Garfield claims he is a "gay man without the physical act".

The 33-year-old actor is portraying a character who struggles between his Jewish faith and homosexuality in play ‘Angels in America’ and his research for the role, which included binge watching ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ has been all-consuming.

According to OUT, he said during a panel discussion about the production: " Every Sunday I would have eight friends over and we would just watch Ru. I mean every single series of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I mean every series. This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act – that’s all."

However, the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ star – who was previously in a relationship with actress Emma Stone – went on to insist he is "not a gay man", but won’t rule out embarking on a same-sex relationship in the future.

He said: "As far as I know, I am not a gay man. Maybe I’ll have an awakening later in my life, which I’m sure will be wonderful and I’ll get to explore that part of the garden, but right now I’m secluded to my area, which is wonderful, as well.

"I adore it, but a big concern was what right do I have to play this wonderful gay role?…It was about doing honor, doing justice."

Andrew is enjoying his stint in the New York play – which examines the AIDS crisis and other LGBT issues – and described it as the "most fulfilling creative experience" he could ever have.

He said: "It’s the most costly thing on the body and on the soul we’ve ever done personally… and I will say it’s the most fulfilling creative experience I’ll ever hope to have.

"I don’t think it can get better than this in terms of everything.

"Communion with the audience-us all going through the same things together and how prevalent and how necessary it is to tell this story right now. "

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone dating again?

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have sparked rumours they’re dating again.

The 33-year-old actor split from the ‘La La Land’ star in April 2015 following four years of on/off dating but it seems a possible reunion could be on the cards for the talented pair after they were spotted cuddling and holding hands at the 70th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) on Sunday (02.12.17) at Grosvenor House in London.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "As soon as Andrew finished his meal he made a beeline for her and gave her a huge hug. They chatted and laughed for at least half an hour. They looked very animated and happy to be together."

And the actress had every reason to be on cloud nine as not only did she cosy up to her former beau, she also scooped the Best Actress prize at the ceremony for her portrayal of Mia in ‘La La Land’, while the romantic comedy also picked up Best Film prize.

Although they ended their relationship some time ago, Andrew has made no secret of the fact that he still holds a candle for the 28-year-old star as he recently admitted that he’d choose her out of anyone else in the world to be stranded on a desert island with.

Asked who he’d choose to have with him if he was dropped on an island, he said late last month: "Emma Stone. I love Emma. She’s all right. She can come."

And it seems the feeling is mutual as the 28-year-old beauty recently admitted that she’s been having a tough time since she ended her relationship with Andrew.

She said: "He’s someone I still love very much. It’s been interesting [since we split]. It’s been a good year. And sad. Pros and cons."

Since their split, neither of them have struck up a relationship with anyone else but Emma did cause a storm in March when she and Austin Stowell were reportedly spotted flirting up a storm on the set of their then-new movie ‘Battle of the Sexes’.

A source said: "Emma and Austin are inseparable. There’s a real connection there. They have the same sense of humour and are constantly teasing each other in between takes about how sexy they look in the funky 1970s-inspired get-ups they have to wear. The cast and crew are always saying what a cute couple they make. Emma and Austin try to brush it off, but you should see the way they blush!"

Andrew Garfield: Award shows are gratitude rituals

Andrew Garfield considers award shows to be "gratitude rituals".

The 33-year-old actor has admitted to having mixed feelings about attending award shows this season, revealing that although he loves to celebrate the achievements of other people within the movie industry, he dislikes the "commerce" element of the glitzy events.

Andrew – who has received a BAFTA nomination for his starring role in ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ – shared: "I get to offer gratitude and celebrate the people that I’ve worked with, and not only that, but to celebrate the other work that’s going on.

"And not only that, but there are people that I have a true connection with in those rooms, friends that I love and I get to celebrate their work.

"At best, those things are gratitude rituals.

"A very wise man said that to me – a mythologist called Michael Meade who I look up to very much – he watched the Oscars one year and he said, ‘You know what? What I saw was the possibility for a gratitude ritual. What a beautiful thing that you get to go and give thanks sincerely to all those people and forces in the world that allow you to do what you love.’ So I’m feeling pretty good about it."

However, Andrew admitted that there is an obvious downside to the shows, too.

He told Vulture: "There is the other side of it, and commerce is always going to be present, and you just have to dance with it and keep all that as light as possible.

"You have to keep the focus on the meaning, and we need meaning more than ever – that is for sure. The world is crying out for it, so I’m very happy to attempt to live my own version of that life."

Andrew Garfield has had ‘spiritual’ experiences on magic mushrooms

Andrew Garfield has taken magic mushrooms and has had "spiritual" experiences whilst high on the hallucinogenic plant.

The 33-year-old British actor has admitted he has experimented with ‘shrooms’ – which grow in the wild and contain the psychedelic compounds psilocybin and psilocin – always whilst in the outdoors and he says the episodes have had a positive effect on him as a person.

Speaking about seeing his first play put on by renowned theatre company Théâtre de Complicite, he said: "The first time I honestly understood the concept of spirituality was when I saw my first play, I was 16, it was this Théâtre de Complicite piece and it was like something waking up inside me, saying ‘This is what I’m supposed to do, ‘ It was mysterious. Almost like being on mushrooms; the doors of perception fade away."

Recalling his experiences with mushrooms, he added: "Look, I’m not in any way advocating young people do it, but I have had amazing experiences, with mushrooms. I’ve always done it in a kind of ritualistic way, out in nature. It really can be a spiritual thing."

Meanwhile, Andrew stars as Desmond Doss in Mel Gibson’s new acclaimed World War II movie ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ and insists the director is nothing like the person he had read about in the news.

Mel hit the headlines back in June 2006 when he went on his now-infamous anti-Semitic rant when he was arrested by Jewish deputy James Mee of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for driving under the influence in Malibu, California, an incident which also saw him call a female police officer "sugar t*ts". Later on, he also had domestic abuse claims made against him by his ex-partner Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his six-year-old daughter Lucia.

However, Andrew says the 61-year-old star has paid for his mistakes and as far as he is concerned he is a "good man".

He told ShortList magazine: "I’ve heard the stuff we’ve all heard about events 10 years ago, but whenever I talked to anyone who actually knew him, they would tear up about him. They’d speak with so much love. Then I met him, and I got it. It was like, ‘You’re amazing. You’re a good man who’s been through some rough times, and taken responsibility for that. Now, let’s go to work."

Andrew has also praised Mel for his directing, adding he was hugely attentive.

He added: "Mel is just … it’s all on the surface, all the time. He’s in the scene with you. He gives a "s**t so much".

Andrew Garfield witnesses awkward Taylor Swift kiss

Andrew Garfield was left in a state of shock when his pal kissed Taylor Swift on the ear at a showbiz party.

The 33-year-old actor was left shaking with laughter at a glitzy bash he attended with his pals from home after one of them unintentionally laid a smacker on the pop beauty.

Andrew – who was raised in Surrey, England – recalled: "It was 2010, I was being invited to all these LA Parties, and three of my mates from home came out for one. Everyone there was famous, and we didn’t know what do to, so we ended up creating a little square in the middle of the room, looking in at each other.

"And then at one point, oh my God … at one point, my mate James accidentally kissed Taylor Swift on the ear! We finally started talking to people, and as we were leaving Taylor Swift says, ‘Bye guys,’ and James leans in, but he doesn’t know if it’s a hug or whatever, so for some reason he just … kisses her on the ear."

These days when Andrew is recognised by fans he attempts to persuade them that they don’t actually want his picture and in one instance, he left a man feeling extremely "uncomfortable" after he hugged him instead.

The ‘Hackshaw Ridge’ star told Shortlist magazine: "A guy came up recently, I was a bit drunk, and I said, ‘Let’s have a hug instead’. As we hugged, I could feel how uncomfortable he was, so I didn’t let go, and he was literally trying to push me off.

"So, most of the time, people don’t really want to meet you. They just want proof they’ve met you. But I like actually connecting with people. I like finding out stuff."

Ryan Gosling pays tribute to Debbie Reynolds

Ryan Gosling paid tribute to the late Debbie Reynolds at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala on Monday (01.02.17).

The 36-year-old actor’s musical ‘La La Land’ was honoured with the Vanguard Award at the annual ceremony and as he picked up the prize alongside director Damien Chazelle and composer Justin Hurwitz, he thanked the late actress – who died on December 28 aged 84, just a day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away – for inspiring his work on the movie with her performance in iconic film ‘Singing in the Rain’.

Ryan – whose co-star Emma Stone missed the event because she had strep throat – said: "I wish I could have said this in person but I’d like to thank Debbie Reynolds for her wonderful career of work.

"She was an inspiration to us every day. We watched ‘Singing in the Rain’ every day for inspiration, a truly unparalleled talent so thank you to her for all that inspiration."

Meanwhile, ‘Lion’ actress Nicole Kidman – who has kids Isabella, 24, and Conor, 21, with ex-husband Tom Cruise and daughters Sunday, eight, and Faith, six, with spouse Keith Urban – reminisced about her first time at the ceremony 12 years ago with her late father Antony Kidman as she picked up the International Star prize.

She recalled: "I was newly single and he came with me as my date…and he held my hand as we walked up the red carpet and I still have photos of that so this is really an emotional evening for me.

"And even though he’s not here now a lot of great things have happened in my life in the last 12 years. I met the love of my life and I got married to him and I grew my family with him."

Natalie Portman was elated to accept the Desert Palm Achievement Award from Tom Hanks.

She joked: "I think I can retire now after getting Tom Hanks to say such nice things about me."

And Andrew Garfield also used his Spotlight Award acceptance speech to thank the ‘Sully’ actor – who was recognised with the Icon Award – for inspiring his own career.

He said: "You are directly responsible for me being here and to be standing beside you is a humbling honor to say the least."

Andrew Garfield still ‘loves’ Emma Stone

Andrew Garfield still "loves" his ex-girlfriend Emma Stone.

The 33-year-old actor split from the ‘Easy A’ star in April 2015 following four years of on/off dating but it seems he’ll always have a soft spot for her as he admitted he’d choose her out of anyone else in the world to be stranded on a desert island with.

Asked who he’d choose to have with him if he was dropped on an island, he told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’: "Emma Stone. I love Emma. She’s all right. She can come."

And it seems the feeling is mutual as the 28-year-old beauty recently admitted that she’s been having a tough time since she ended her relationship with Andrew.

She said: "He’s (Andrew) someone I still love very much. It’s (the year since the split) been interesting. It’s been a good year. And sad. Pros and cons."

Since their split, neither of them have struck up a relationship with anyone else but Emma did set tongues wagging in March when she and Austin Stowell were reportedly spotted flirting up a storm on the set of their then-new movie ‘Battle of the Sexes’.

A source said at the time: "Emma and Austin are inseparable. There’s a real connection there. They have the same sense of humor and are constantly teasing each other in between takes about how sexy they look in the funky 1970s-inspired get-ups they have to wear. The cast and crew are always saying what a cute couple they make. Emma and Austin try to brush it off, but you should see the way they blush!"

However, it’s highly unlikely the strawberry-haired beauty will want to strike up a romance with anyone else in the film industry any time soon as it’s believed her and Andrew called time on their romance because of their conflicting work schedules.

An insider said at the time: "There was no drama, they’ve been apart while working. They still care about each other. They still have love for one another. They are on good terms with each other and remain close."

Jackie Chan gets honorary Oscar

Jackie Chan has received an honorary Oscar.

The ‘Rush Hour’ actor hailed his recognition at the Eighth Annual Governors Awards a "dream" come true after being recognized by the Academy for the first time in his 56-year career.

Accepting the accolade from Tom Hanks, Michelle Yeoh and Chris Tucker, he said: "My dad always said, ‘Son, you get so many movie awards in the world, when are you going to get one of these?’ Then I just look at my dad. ‘Ha, ha, ha. Dad, I only make comedy action movies.’ "

The 62-year-old actor recalled seeing Sylvester Stallone’s Academy Award statuette when he had a meeting at the ‘Expendables’ star’s home 23 years ago and admitted it made him "really want one".

He recalled: "I touched it, kissed it, smelled it… I believe it still has my fingerprints on it.

"Then I talked to myself, ‘I really want one.’ Finally, (Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs) called and I said, ‘Are you sure?’ "

Jackie went on to thank his fans and vowed to keep making movies, even though he’s been left injured many times because of his work.

He said: "After 56 years in the film industry, making over 200 films, I’ve broken so many bones, finally this is mine. I want to thank you, Hong Kong, such an incredible city, my hometown, my hood, who make me.

"China, my country, I am proud to be Chinese. Thank you, Hollywood, for all of those years teaching me so many things, and also make me a little bit famous. I’m just honored to be here."

Other honourees at the event, which took place at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles on Saturday (11.12.16) night, included film editor Anne V. Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster and documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman.

The star-studded guest list for the ceremony included Nicole Kidman, Warren Beatty, Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o, Ryan Reynolds, Viola Davis, Andrew Garfield, Dame Helen Mirren, Richard Gere, Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Lily Collins, Marion Cotillard, Felicity Jones and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Emma Stone: I’m ‘lucky’ to be paid the same as my male co-stars

Emma Stone feels "lucky" to be paid the same as her male counterparts.

The ‘Birdman’ star doesn’t think it is fair that women and men should get paid different amounts but says she is one of the fortunate few who hasn’t been subjected to that pay gap recently.

She said: "We should all be treated fairly and paid fairly. I’ve been lucky enough to have equal pay to my male costars. Not ‘lucky.’ I’ve had pay equal to my male costars in the past few films. But our industry ebbs and flows in a way that’s like, ‘How much are you bringing into the box office?’ ‘How much are you the draw or is the other person the draw?’

"I felt uncomfortable talking to my agent or lawyer about it because I was like, ‘Do people want to see me as much as they want to see Steve Carell?’ It’s a weird conversation to have because it’s trying to see oneself from the outside. What are we at [nationally]? Seventy-nine cents to the dollar? It’s insane. There’s no excuse for it anymore."

And the 27-year-old actress admits she worries about people not wanting to ever hire her again.

She added: "You always feel a little bit like that. That you could again be an outsider, that something could make people never want to hire you again."

Emma is currently single following her split from Andrew Garfield and she admits the last year has been "interesting".

She told the November issue of Vogue magazine: "[He’s] someone I still love very much … It’s been interesting. It’s been a good year. And sad. Pros and cons."
