EA kills Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile

EA is pulling the plug on Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile.

The former game will shut down on May 1st, 2023, while the latter, which was still in development, has been formally cancelled.

In a blog post, developer Respawn said Apex Legends Mobile had fallen short of its “bar for quality, quantity and cadence.” Therefore, it made the “mutual decision” with development partner Tencent to axe the game one year after launch. EA says it will not refund players for any in-app purchases that have been made. However, Respawn will continue to support the main Apex Legends experience on consoles and PC.

In a separate post, Respawn parent company EA simply attributed the Battlefield cancellation to the ever-evolving games industry. Instead, EA says it’s still “hard at work at evolving Battlefield 2042” as pre-production on “future Battlefield experiences” remains underway.

The announcements come as part of EA’s Q3 2023 earnings release, in which it also announced the six-week delay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor until April 28th.

T-Pain tells keyboard warriors to stop harassing Apex Legends developers

T-Pain has a message for unruly gamers: “y’all have to fucking chill out.”

The rapper tweeted the message in response to Apex Legends developer Respawn’s social media statement condemning the harassment that staff has been facing.

“Bro y’all have to fucking chill out. It’s a fucking game my dude. Play something else if you hate it so much bro. Walk away from your pc/console if you’ve become so consumed by a game that you feel the need to threaten the ppl that work hard to make it. Chill bro

On September 22nd, Respawn tweeted that it has recently “seen increased harassment towards members” of the development team. “We welcome community input, however, the line between constructive feedback and the harassment of our dev team cannot be crossed.” The developer said it has a “zero tolerance policy” towards this behaviour and promised to “take appropriate action to ensure the health and safety” of the team.

Many people quickly shared the post to express support for the developers and push back against the abuse, and now, T-Pain has done the same. The rapper is an avid gamer, streaming titles like Apex Legends regularly on Twitch.

Unfortunately, the issue of developer harassment has come up often, especially in the past few months. In the span of a week over the summerMonkey Island creator Ron Gilbert decided to stop publicly talking about his new game due to hateful messages over its art style, while a Sony Santa Monica developer reported receiving unsolicited “dick pics” to get her to confirm a release date for God of War: Ragnarök.

It should go without saying that none of this is acceptable, and you need to grow up if it’s something you do. As T-Pain himself said, “it’s a fucking game my dude.”

Apex Legends is currently suffering from input delay issues on Xbox Series X/S

Xbox Series X/S Apex Legends players have reported experiencing input control issues amid the game’s ongoing ‘Awakening Collection Event,’ which launched on June 21st.

Whenever players move their joystick or press a button, their input is delayed significantly. If you’ve ever played a shooter like Apex before, you’ll know that this makes the title almost totally unplayable.

The lag even extends to the Xbox dashboard and other games. However, restarting the console seems to fix the input delay issue. Some reports indicate that Microsoft’s Elite controllers are affected more significantly by the glitch.

Respawn Entertainment recently tweeted that it’s aware of the issue and says that it’s currently working on a fix. Some Reddit users report that if you plug in the controller or play the game with an older Xbox one gamepad the input delay disappears.

Apex Legends isn’t the only game frustrating players with input delay issues either as MLB The Show 22 is currently suffering from similar issues on the Xbox Series X/S.
