Apple Music app now available on LG Smart TVs

After Crave and Hayu, the Apple Music app is now available directly on LG Smart TVs, even in Canada, the Seoul-based company announced today on Twitter.

This means that Apple Music subscribers can now access their entire music library and playlists directly from their LG smart TV, even if they don’t have an Apple TV. The app is available on all LG Smart TVs running webOS version 4.0 or higher. Head to the LG Content Store from your TV and search for Apple Music to check if your TV is compatible with the app.

According to user reports, the LG TV Apple Music app interface is identical to that of the Apple TV Apple Music app and includes your songs, radio stations and personalized playlists. If you’re already an Apple Music subscriber, you should see your regular recommendations duplicated on the new LG TV app.

New Apple Music subscribers can get the first three months of service free, after which you pay $9.99/month. Find all Apple Music plans here.

Apple Music launches on PlayStation 5 globally

Apple Music is coming to PlayStation 5 later today.

Earlier this month, some PS5 owners had noticed that the music streaming service was popping up for them, but now, Apple and PlayStation have made it official.

With an Apple Music subscription, PS5 users can access more than 90 million songs, as well as tens of thousands of curated playlists, 4K music videos and more.

Functionally, Apple Music on PS5 works just like Spotify. You can either start the Apple Music app before hopping into a game or, if you’re currently playing one, can do so by selecting the ‘Music Function’ card from the Control Center. This will let you listen to music in the background.

However, you can also find and watch music videos from the Apple Music app. Playback will begin in full screen, although it will be reduced to audio-only if you return to your game or go elsewhere on the PS5’s home screen. Returning to the music video will re-open it to continue fullscreen viewing without interruption.

The Apple Music app can be downloaded from the Media space on your PS5. From there, follow the on-screen instructions to link your Apple Music account. PlayStation says more info on this process can be found here.

An Apple Music subscription starts at $9.99 CAD/month. A membership is also included in the Apple One service bundles, which start at $15.95/month.

It’s worth noting that Apple and PlayStation have also partnered on a promotion that gives PS5 owners six months of Apple TV+ for free. Read more on that here.

Apple drops Apple Music Voice plan for $4.99

To kick off its fall ‘Unleashed’ event, Apple revealed a new Apple Music subscription tier called ‘Apple Music Voice.’

This new subscription costs $4.99 USD (about $6.17 CAD) per month and works with all Apple devices that can use Siri. This makes the plan helpful for people who just have a HomePod.

Amazon offers a similar free tier of some music to people that can be accessed through its Echo devices to allow users to play some music right out of the box for free. Since Apple will charge $5 USD per month, it’s unclear how many people will opt for its version.

Systems like these are designed to be accessed more casually, so Apple has made tons of playlists based on moods for users to access. Onstage, the company used examples of asking Siri to play music for a dinner party or for a hike. You can still ask Siri to play specific songs through Apple Music Voice.

More to come…

Apple giving away Apple Music 6-month trial with AirPods and Beats purchase

If you’ve been holding off for a decent deal before upgrading your Apple AirPods or Beats headphones, now might be the moment you’ve been waiting for. Apple is currently offering six months free of Apple Music with the purchase of several different AirPods models or Beats headphones/earbuds.

According to Apple, the AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, Beats Studio Buds, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro, all qualify for the deal.

It’s important to point out that this offer is only available to “new subscribers with an eligible device for a limited time only,” according to the fine print on Apple’s website. Unfortunately, this means that if you’re already a current or past Apple Music subscriber, you won’t be able to add an additional six months to your subscription.

Apple also says that you need to be running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 on your iPhone or iPad, and redeem the offer within 90 days.

As far as free Apple Music promos go, this one is pretty sweet. It’s just unfortunate that current subscribers don’t qualify for the offer.
