The Cupertino-based company announced a formal partnership with the MLS that gives Apple streaming rights to MLS games until 2032 in more than 100 countries, including Canada and the United States.
Now Apple is considering acquiring the rights to the Dutch soccer league Eredivisie. The information was first reported on by iCreate, quoting “the usually well-informed sports marketer Chris Woerts,” as the source.
The report states that “other American giants,” including Netflix and Amazon, are also interested in acquiring rights to the league, which currently is in the hands of ESPN.
The ESPN deal lasts until 2024, so if Apple was to purchase the rights to stream the Eredivisie league, it wouldn’t be before 2025. It will also reportedly cost Apple, or whoever ultimately gets their hands on the streaming rights, “at least 150 to 200 million euros per year” (roughly $200 million CAD to $280 million CAD).
Whether or not Apple ends up acquiring rights to broadcast the Eredivisie league, the pattern is clear as day, and Apple is making it evident that it wants sports streaming to be its next big thing.
While the Eredivisie league is a topic for the future, Apple’s MLS Season Pass is set to launch on February 1st, 2023. Read more about it here.
Forget a deal on an Apple TV+ membership: Apple is giving us none other than Ryan Reynolds himself.
The Vancouver-born actor is the star of a new Apple TV+ skit about the tech giant’s latest innovation, “Ryan Reynolds+.”
No, that’s not a new streaming service — it’s the latest and greatest version of Reynolds, “programmed with song and dance” and a beard to “cover up his hideous face.”
If it’s not immediately clear, this is all an ad for Spirited, Reynolds’ new movie for Apple TV+. In the Christmas movie, he co-stars alongside Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, who also both appear in the ad. The film premiered on Apple TV+ on November 18th.
Ultimately, this sort of self-deprecating bit is pretty much the most Ryan Reynolds way to promote a new project, so can we really be mad that it isn’t actually a Cyber Monday deal?

Apple and Major League Soccer (MLS) have announced that the ‘MLS Season Pass’ will launch on February 1st, 2023 in more than 100 countries, including Canada and the United States.
The season pass is available directly through the Apple TV app on Apple TV set-top boxes, smart TVs, video game consoles and more. The package includes every live MLS regular-season game, the playoffs and the Leagues Cup, with no regional blackouts. Further, all matches featuring Canadian teams will stream in French.
The season pass is part of a 10-year content agreement between MLS and Apple. This is part of a broader strategy by Apple to offer more live sports through its Apple TV streaming app. For example, Apple’s Friday Night Baseball offers free Major League Baseball (MLB) games through Apple TV+.
Strangely, Apple’s press release regarding the season pass launch doesn’t include any information regarding Canadian pricing. However, several U.S. publications are reporting the cost is $99 USD (about $131.84 CAD) per season or $15 USD (roughly $19.98 CAD) per month. If you’re an Apple TV+ subscriber ($8.99 CAD/month), that cost goes down to $79 (approximately $105.21 CAD) per season and $13 (about $17.31 CAD) per month.
MobileSyrup has reached out to Apple Canadian pricing and will update this story when more information is available.
