AC/DC Boycotts iTunes

The flamboyant guitarist of the Australian group told the Daily Telegraph the reasons why we won’t be seeing AC/DC material on the music downloading giant.

"We believe the songs on any of our albums belong together. If we were on iTunes, we know a certain percentage of people would only download two or three songs from the album," Angus Young said.

The musician admitted that the group received several requests for their songs to become available on iTunes, but AC/DC will not give into pressure from the music industry.

"Since iTunes came into existence, we’ve actually increased our back catalogue sales without being on the site," Young revealed.

Starting October 20, AC/DC fans can get their hands on their new album, Black Ice, however not via iTunes.

Kid Rock Boycotts iTunes

According to a report from FemaleFirst, the singer refuses to give iTunes the permission to sell his songs, because he says that the owners of the company do not adequately compensate artists.

He stated, "It’s based on an old system where iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they don’t give it to the artists."

Despite it all, Kid Rock admitted that his music would probably be sold through an online retailer one day.

Purple Violets To Be Released on iTunes

The contract between Apple and the actor/director marks a change in the cinema world.  Purple Violets will not be released in theatres, and will instead go straight to iTunes.

The drama, which stars Selma Blair, Edward Burns, Debra Messing and Patrick Wilson, will be available for downloading on November 20 for a price of $14.99 US.  Burns, who also directed the film, explained his unconventional choice, "The specialized movie business has changed so dramatically in the last five years. These small, talky movies have a hard time finding an audience theatrically, so you need to adapt.  There are still people who want to see this nontraditional type of film, and now there are nontraditional ways to get them out there."

The first film to be made available on iTunes was High School Musical last year.  Since then, the site’s catalog has increased to 500 feature films.
