Google Bard gets update page detailing new changes and additions

Google’s experimental Bard conversational AI chat service got a new updates page to let people know what’s new.

Available at ‘bard.google.com/updates,’ the page details “experiment update[s]” to Bard. Currently, the page only shows the inaugural update from April 10th, 2023, which includes three additions, descriptions of the changes and ‘why’ sections.

The April 10th update adds the experiment updates page (duh). Google says it added the page so “people will have an easy place to see the latest Bard updates for them to test and provide feedback.”

Along with that, the update added additional suggested Search topics when people click the ‘Google it’ button – Google says this will help people explore a wider range of interests and related topics.

Finally, Google says it boosted Bard’s capabilities in math and logic because “Bard doesn’t always get it right.” The company says it’s working toward higher-quality responses in those areas.

Though the information is somewhat vague, it’s good to see Google doing more to communicate updates and changes to Bard. Having transparency on what’s new (and why Google chose to do something) is a big win for Bard users and AI in general.

The new update page comes after Google promised to improve Bard following a lacklustre launch.

Google’s Assistant team is helping with Bard

Generative AI and large language models (LLMs) are all the rage right now thanks to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and GPT-4, Microsoft’s Bing Chat (which runs on GPT-4) and now Google’s Bard, which is available in preview in the U.S. and U.K. The main way to interact with these services now is through text and chat interfaces. But what if you could speak to the AI instead? It might not be too far away.

At least, that seems to be the direction Google wants to go. As noted by 9to5Google, the search giant has previously expressed its Assistant as a product where it wants to incorporate “better conversational features.” Though that hasn’t happened yet, the Google Assistant team is helping lead Bard development, suggesting there’s a clear path to integration.

Google told 9to5 that Bard is an experimental service and is separate from Google Assistant, even though Sissie Hsiao, vice president and general manager of Google Assistant, joined Eli Collins, vice president of Google Research, to announce the company was opening access to Bard.

While the products remain separate for now, Google does see the potential crossover. For example, the Assistant team has worked on conversational AI and speech understanding for years, skills that can and have been applied to Bard.

Plus, 9to5 argues that the Assistant team has plenty of experience turning research into products and services that regular people can use with ease.

Given how quickly these AI tools have improved in the short time they’ve been publicly available, it’s hard to say how long it’ll be before we gain access to something like a Bard-powered Google Assistant. But I do think it’ll happen sooner than people expect, barring any significant problems arising from Bard.

Brad Pitt and his new girl half-naked during a romantic getaway

Brad Pitt celebrated the arrival of 2023 with a romantic getaway under the hot Mexican sun of Cabo with his new flame, Ines de Ramon, a 32-year-old jewelry designer.

Page Six offered candid photos of the lovers as they were at the pool making the most of the sunshine without much clothing, while the 59-year-old actor looked great and his new girlfriend decided to ditch the top.

Although the pair are reportedly not officially a couple (yet), the actor seems smitten with his new conquest as they have been seen together on numerous occasions in recent months, including at the after-party for the premiere of his new movie, Babylon, on December 15.

This is definitely a duo to watch in 2023!
