Bell grows pure fibre internet network in Acadian Peninsula

Bell’s pure fibre internet service is now available to residents and businesses in New Brunswick’s Acadian Peninsula.

The carrier announced on September 14th that it was expanding its high-speed broadband offerings in the communities of Lamèque, Miscou Centre, Saint-Raphäel-sur-Mer, Haut-Shippagan, Le Goulet, and Pigeon Hill.

On the same day, Bell also announced that 10,000 locations in Oshawa, Ontario, would also be gaining access to the carrier’s fibre internet service.

Both expansions are part of a national capital investment of $1.7 billion from Bell, aimed at accelerating the company’s rollout of broadband fibre across the country over the next two years.

Bell joins Quebecor, TekSavvy in opposing Rogers/Shaw merger

Bell has reportedly joined the chorus of voices renouncing fellow telecom giant Rogers’ acquisition of Shaw Communications, according to a filing obtained by The Globe and Mail.

In the filing, which was submitted to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, Bell allegedly argues that the takeover would give Rogers control over nearly half of the country’s English-language television distribution market, including cable, satellite and internet.

Announced in March 2021, the Rogers/Shaw merger is valued at a whooping $26 billion, including debt, and is currently under review by Canada’s Competition Bureau.

While the deal is already signed, the purchase still needs to be approved by federal regulators — a task that has proven difficult as telecom carriers and industry experts alike are vocally warning that the acquisition will quash competition and lead to higher prices for consumers.

Analysts are suggesting that the deal might be allowed to go through if Rogers evens the scales by divesting itself of Shaw’s wireless properties, Freedom Mobile and Shaw Mobile.

Bell’s official stance against the merger is interesting, given that the company made — and later withdrew — its own offer to buy Shaw prior to Rogers sealing the deal.

The public hearing for the Rogers/Shaw acquisition is scheduled for November 22nd, 2021.

Bell expanding fibre internet access to 10,000 more locations in Oshawa, Ontario

Bell has announced an expansion of fibre internet service to homes and businesses in urban and rural areas of Oshawa, Ontario.

In a news release, the Montreal-based national telecom company said that the expansion was part of its “accelerated capital investment in national next-generation network infrastructure.”

According to Bell, its fibre internet now reaches more than 44,000 Oshawa locations, and the expansion will increase that an additional 10,000 by the end of 2021.

“Bridging the digital divide is a priority for Bell as we advance how Canadians connect with each other and the world. We’re proud to bring our pure fibre connections and world-leading Internet and TV services to households and commercial locations in Oshawa as part of this historic network acceleration program,” said Rizwan Jamal, Bell’s president of residential and small business.

Bell says that its $100 million investment to bring direct fibre network connections to approximately 60,000 homes and businesses in Oshawa is now close to completion. Its fibre network will provide access to internet download speeds of up to 1.5Gbps and Bell services like Fibe TV.

Additionally, the company notes that it fully funded the expansion program.

Bell’s accelerated capital investment will see $1.7 billion in capital invested over the next two years to accelerate the rollout of broadband fibre. The company says this investment comes alongside its roughly $4 billion annual broadband investment.

Kristen Bell isn’t stressed about baby

Kristen Bell doesn’t think having a newborn baby is overly stressful.

The ‘House of Lies’ actress, who is expecting her second child and already has daughter Lincoln, 19-months, with her husband, Dax Shepard, admits they are way more relaxed this time round and haven’t started decorating a nursery for their unborn baby yet.

The 34-year-old star, who is in her third trimester, told Us Weekly magazine: ”There’s been zero nursery prep… we’re just going to push it around in a bassinet. Caring for a newborn is pretty stressful, but no overly so – just feed it and keep it clean.”

‘Parenthood’ star Dax, 39, has been trying to help the ‘Veronica Mars’ actress as much as possible as she enters the final stages of her pregnancy.

She said: ”He’s the best. I need help getting my shoes on and off. I can’t touch my toes anymore!”

Kristen previously admitted she was too busy taking care of Lincoln to think about names for the next child.

She said: ”It’s hard to take focus off her [Lincoln] and think about the second baby, even though the second baby is here and growing.”

Kristen Bell’s baby name pressure

Kristen Bell felt ”pressured” to find the perfect name for her unborn child.

The ‘Frozen’ star – who already has a 17-month-old daughter Lincoln with her husband Dax Shepherd – is expecting her second child with the 39-year-old actor and confessed the pair struggled to come up with another moniker.

She told People magazine: ”It’s a lot of pressure, especially because we felt ‘Lincoln’ was so perfect.”

Fortunately, the pair have managed to settle on an idea just in time as the latest addition to their family is due ”sometime soon” – although Kristen was keen to keep the name under wraps.

She said: ”We had a little bit of a breakthrough. We’ve settled on one, thankfully.”

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old actress recently confessed her daughter is ”the smartest baby ever” because she is already talking and learning sign language.

She said: ”She signs a lot, which is nice. There’s a lot of research to suggest that they will be happier if they can communicate before their verbal scores are developed.

”There’s a time when they can understand everything you’re saying but their verbal scores don’t exist.”

She added: ”I can talk to her and she’ll sign in three, four word sentences which is really amazing. She’ll come in the kitchen and be like [signing] ‘More crackers please!’ And I’m like, ‘Yes, okay!’ ”

She added: ”She’s MENSA, without a question!? She’s the smartest baby ever!”
