Ben Roethlisberger implies Steelers are cheap!

While Ben Roethlisberger may have played his entire Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the doesn’t mean that he’s above sharing some public disagreements with how they run their franchise.

During a recent episode of his  ‘Footbahlin’ podcast, he explained that he feels that the Steelers wait until all of the highest priced free agents have found new homes before they go shopping for their own additions. In other words, he essentially implied that the Steelers are on the cheap side.

“The Steelers, I’ve felt, have done a lot in the past is they try to get a bargain free agent,” Roethlisberger said. “That usually means it’s a guy that maybe was banged up. It’s like, ‘Oh, no, he’s healthy now’, instead of going to get a free agent that is just [high on the market] because they don’t want to have to pay a lot.”

He said that while every team has a different free agent philosophy and that it’s not every year, the Steelers traditionally wait to spend on more well known free agent players.

“Okay, everyone’s got different philosophies,” Roethlisberger said. “And it’s not all free agents [that] are that way, but to me, it has felt that way traditionally.”

Ben Roethlisberger coming out of retirement!

Move over, Kenny Pickett! Ben Roethlisberger announced minutes ago that he’s coming out of retirement for one last crack at bringing the Super Bowl to the Steel City! He made the announcement in a press conference at…..

…okay, we’re kidding. Happy April Fool’s Day!

Roethlisberger retired after a long and very fruitful NFL career, spending all 18 years of his NFL career wearing the black and yellow while leading his team to two Super Bowl wins. He’s also the franchise leader in wins with 165, home wins with 92, and passing touchdowns with 418.

However, he apparently did think about returning. He alluded to a potential comeback recently, saying that he’s thought about coming out of retirement not to rejoin Pittsburgh but to join the San Francisco 49ers, who had recently lost quarterback Jimmy Garappolo for the remainder of the year with an injury.

“I thought about it,” Roethlisberger said on his “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger” podcast. “That team is one of the better teams in football and that defense is really stinking good and they did it with Purdy.”
