Some people got $30/20GB, $35/25GB Koodo plans at Mobile Klinik

Last week, we wrote about how some of the best Black Friday carrier deals are available in-store this year, with some offering $40/mo 20GB plans. Well, some stores are reportedly pushing prices even lower to $30/20GB and $35/25GB.

The details come from RedFlagDeals (RFD) user xPhyre, which has an ongoing thread about these discounted plans. To start, the thread says the plans come from Mobile Klinik and involve a $20/mo bill credit for 15 months plus a $5/mo credit for 24 months. The post mentions the plan is with Koodo, which makes sense, given that Mobile Klinik is partnered with Telus. Additionally, customers can get a $100 credit to use in-store at Mobile Klinik, which could be handy.

Again, the deal is only available in stores and, later in the thread, another RFD claiming to work at Mobile Klinik posted that the offer was only available in Ontario. So, your mileage may vary with this one.

The price breakdown is as follows. Koodo offers a $55/mo 20GB plan and a $60/mo 25GB plan. With the $20/mo credit, that knocks the plans down to $35 and $40, respectively. Finally, the $5/mo credit brings it down to $30 and $35, respectively. It’s worth noting the $5/mo credit appears to be exclusive to Mobile Klinik (the retailer’s website details a $5/mo sustainability credit for customers who buy a used phone or fix one at Mobile Klinik — it’s not clear if this is the $5 credit detailed by RFD).

Despite the deal being specific to Mobile Klinik, others in the RFD thread said that all dealers were offering the plan, including Fido and Virgin Mobile. Other users reported success getting the plan with other carriers. Again, your mileage may vary.

Holiday shoppers in Canada are going online to seek deals, Google says

With shopping for the 2022 holiday season in full swing, retailers will likely face price-conscious shoppers focusing on cost and convenience, says Google Canada.

Part of this convenience is maintaining some shopping trends seen during the pandemic. While Canadian retailers can expect in-store shopping for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, purchasing goods online will remain the norm. Shoppers are also likely to use online shopping for inspiration.

For example, an Ipsos survey commissioned by Google found 89 percent of holiday shoppers search for products online before they buy in-store. The survey took place online between September 8th and 11th, 2022.

72 percent of the surveyed shoppers in Canada say they are concerned about the rising cost of products and 60 percent say they plan to buy less because of inflation. 85 percent say they will shop at stores offering discounts, 73 percent will shop at stores with free shipping, and 41 percent say they are price matching.

The interest in finding savings has increased dramatically over the past year. People doubled the searches for the term ‘discount code.’ ‘Price match’ increased seven-fold. Searches for ‘black Friday’ have increased by 300 percent.

So what are Canadians looking to buy?

In tech, Pixel 7 is the top trending electronic. This is followed by the RTX 4090, Samsung tablet, camera, and Nintendo Switch Lite.

Other popular tech-related searches include iRobot Roomba, the Dyson V15 vacuum, and the Dyson Airwrap.

The best square 4K monitor is on sale for Black Friday

I’ve been using Huawei’s excellent MateView monitor for the last few months, and it’s incredible. The only thing that holds it back is its price, which is remedied by this deal.

Canada Computers has dropped the price to $698, $200 off its usual $900 price tag.

This monitor is pricey, but it’s well worth it since it has a great 3:2 aspect ratio, rich colours and even an excellent speaker built into the stand. The base also houses a few USB passthrough ports and can provide up to 65 watts of power. That said, this stand isn’t removable, and you can’t mount it on a monitor arm.

However, the extra vertical and horizontal space has benefited all of my work, from gaming to content creation. Not to mention the all-metal design looks tremendous and sufficiently minimal next to a MacBook.

In terms of specs, it’s got a 4K resolution with 10-bit colour and a 60Hz refresh rate.

Google discounts Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6a by up to $300

If you’re looking for a new phone this holiday season, it’s hard to turn away from this Pixel discount Google is offering.

The Pixel 7  has been knocked down to $649, which is $150 off its starting price, and the Pixel 7 Pro is $300 less than it was before, making it $879. The Pixel 6a, which released during the summer of 2022, is down to $499.

You can buy the phones from Google here.

We strongly recommend all three of these devices with some caveats, so make sure to read our reviews below to find out which one works the best for you.

While this is the cleanest deal, many Canadian carriers appear to have reduced the cost of the phone and leading up to Black Friday, Best Buy is offering gift cards to temp people towards Pixel devices.
