Bono and son rock out to Oasis together

U2 singer Bono has been introducing his eldest son to Oasis’ music.

The 56-year-old rocker has took it upon himself to give his kids – two daughters, Jordan, 27, and Eve, 25, and two sons, Elijah, 17, and John, 15, his children with his wife Ali Hewson – a musical history lesson.

Bono is great friends with former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and he has been playing Elijah the Manchester group’s most famous tracks and introducing him to other classic 90s indie rock.

He shared: "I mean he listens to … I mean Elijah’s been, I’ve just been going through the 90s with him. Noel Gallagher, Stone Roses, Oasis, all that. He’s rediscovering that and I’m rediscovering it with him. On vinyl."

And the ‘With or Without You’ hitmaker – whose real name is Paul Hewson – also credited his four children for helping him through "house parties", as he admits they’re better at planning the events than he is.

Asked where he keeps his record player and what he uses it for, Bono said: "It’s in our kitchen. So is Edge’s. At home we do have house parties, though some of the better ones are now done by my sons and daughters. But we’ve been playing all kinds of things. "Yesterday we listened to the new Eagles album. I’m not talking about the Californian band, but I think they’re from Leeds, maybe. I think they’re from the UK, which was really great."

Bono is currently gearing up to head out on tour in support of the 30th anniversary of U2’s seminal album ‘The Joshua Tree’ – a tour on which the Irish stadium legends will be supported by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

The singer has apologized to fans who will have to travel far and wide in order to make one of the exclusive shows, but has promised the concert will be "special".

Speaking on UK station BBC Radio 2 on Chris Evans’ ‘Breakfast Show’, the ‘Beautiful Day’ songwriter said: "Originally we were just going to do a few shows, and I apologies to people in Scotland and Wales who have to come down to Twickenham (in London), or indeed in Dublin we could only do one show.

"We were only supposed to do three or four or five, we’re doing I think nearly 40 now across America and Europe. But as I say we don’t do birthdays, we’re more weddings and bar mitzvahs actually, but this seemed to be something to do. And yeah, we’ll see what happens, but it’s a special album of songs for sure."

Michael Jackson ‘tried to spy on U2’

Michael Jackson tried to spy on U2 at the height of their pop rivalry.

The music icon apparently became obsessed with the Irish rock group following the success of their 1988 album ‘The Joshua Tree’ and so he attempted to send a private film crew to Dublin to tape U2 in the studio in order to uncover their secrets.

But Michael’s plan was uncovered by U2’s manager Paul McGuinness, who considered it to be a bit "creepy".

Lead singer Bono told The Sun newspaper: "Michael wanted to observe us in our natural habitat."

Meanwhile, Michael’s 18-year-old daughter Paris recently revealed she was treated like a "princess" by her late father, who passed away in 2009 aged 50, when she was just 11.

Paris said she was treated like royalty when her father was alive as she was "perfect" in his eyes.

Paris – who has brothers Prince, 20, and Blanket, 15 – said: "When I was a kid, I was with my dad and my two brothers. Growing up, I was treated as the favourite because I was the only girl. I was the princess; I was perfect in my dad’s eyes."

Paris also claimed that the ‘Thriller’ hitmaker was "99 percent" of her inspiration.

She said: "All of my inspiration. I would say 99 percent of my inspiration comes from him, because he has always been my world. He is my roots."

And Paris has admitted to envying her father’s strength of character, saying he was the strongest person she has ever encountered in her life.

When asked previously which one of her dad’s qualities she’d like to have, Paris said: "Definitely his strength. He was the strongest person I know and tried to do everything with a much love and kindness as possible."

James Corden: Pierce Brosnan was rude to me at U2 concert

James Corden has branded Pierce Brosnan the rudest celebrity he’s ever met.

The 38-year-old British funnyman has described the 63-year-old actor as a "rude man" after the ‘Die Another Day’ actor – who was the fifth star to play the iconic role of James Bond in the 007 franchise – pushed him at a U2 concert and then failed to even acknowledge the ‘Gavin & Stacey’ actor.

In a game of ‘Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts’ with Khloe Kardashian on his own chat show ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’, in which the pair had to eat an array of unusual treats if they failed to answer a question, the program’s host was asked to name a famous person who was impolite to him or to forfeit and drink bird saliva.

Speaking on the program, James said: "There was someone. But I don’t know if we’re going to try and book him on the show.

"I don’t know if I can drink it."

However, the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star urged James to "screw him" and not invite the mystery person onto his show if he was disrespectful, but to name and shame instead.

She said: "Why would you want to book him if he’s rude. Screw him, and tell us the name."

To which James blurted out: "Piers Brosnan. I don’t think he’s a rude man, he just happened to be [to me]. I went to see U2 and I was there with my friend Louis and his wife, and my wife, and Pierce Brosnan was with some friends and they left halfway through the gig to go off, and we left the space [for them]. And then they had been gone quite a long and Bono was like right there on this sort of big runway in the middle of the show.

"So me and my wife moved into this area, and literally, I’ve never felt anything like it, this arm went on here and just pushed me out the way. And I looked at him, and he didn’t even glance at me and he just moved back into his area. Maybe he’s just a bit f***ing rude."

However, when James was asked to reveal the guest with the worst vocals on ‘Carpool Karaoke’, he opted out and decided to munch on chicken feet instead.

He said, "I just think it’s so unfair to answer this. I mean I could tell you who it is," before nibbling into the clawed talons.

Bono receives ‘ridiculous’ Man of the Year award

Bono admitted it was "ridiculous" to be given Glamour’s first Man of the Year award as he was on stage accepting the prize.

The U2 frontman was awarded the gong at Glamour’s Women of the Year ceremony at NeueHouse in Hollywood, California, on Monday night (14.11.16), and used the opportunity to call on Donald Trump to make equality a "priority".

Speaking to the crowd, he said: "I know how ridiculous it is for me to be on this stage accepting this award. But if I didn’t know how ridiculous it was, I did have the blessed internet to remind me.

"As my daughter Jordan says, there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunities as men.

"Unless we address this problem, both men and women together, the world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path.

"I say to the president-elect – look across to women, make equality a priority, it is the only way forward.

"The train is leaving the station, be on it or be under it."

The rocker was given the prize by the glossy publication in honor of his humanitarian work, including the ‘Poverty Is Sexist’ campaign, which aims to relieve the poverty which discriminates against women on a global scale.

Bono attended the ceremony with his wife Ali Hewson, 55, and kids Jordan, 27, and Eve, 25, and was joined by the likes of Gwen Stefani on the winners list as she took the Icon Award.

Other winners included Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, the founders of the Black Lives Matter campaign, IMF chief Christine Lagarde and Nadia Murad, the United Nations ambassador who escaped enslavement from ISIS.

Amber Heard made a rare red carpet appearance at the awards and paid tribute to a sexual assault victim known as Emily Doe.

She said: "Wherever you are, we know you are listening. Thank you for your words. Thank you for your courage. We carry it with us every day."

Earlier this month, Emily wrote an essay in the magazine about sexual assault.

She said: "I am here. I am not that floppy thing you found behind the garbage, speaking melted words.

"I am here, I can stand upright, I can speak clearly, I’ve been listening and am painfully aware of all the hurt you’ve been trying to justify."

Bono to be honored at Women of the Year awards

Bono has been named one of Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year.

The U2 frontman has been recognised by the glossy publication in honor of his humanitarian work, including the ‘Poverty Is Sexist’ campaign, which aims to relieve the poverty which discriminates against women on a global scale, but admitted he doesn’t think he "deserves" the accolade.

Explaining how he called wife Ali Hewson to break the news, the 56-year-old rocker said: "I asked did she think I deserved it. She wasn’t sure. She said I’ve work to do!

"I’m sure I don’t deserve it.

"But I’m grateful for this award as a chance to say the battle for gender equality can’t be won unless men lead it along with women. We’re largely responsible for the problem, so we have to be involved in the solutions."

Despite receiving criticism for the decision to make Bono their first Man of the Year, Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive, insists it was "outdated" to only celebrate the achievements of females at their annual ceremony, which takes place this year on November 14 in Los Angeles.

Cindi said: "We’ve talked for years about whether to honor a man at Women of the Year and we’ve always kind of put the kabash on it. You know, men get a lot of awards and aren’t exactly hurting in the celebration and honors department

"But it started to seem that that might be an outdated way of looking at things, and there are so many men who really are doing wonderful things for women these days. Some men get it and Bono is one of those guys."

As well as Bono, the upcoming Glamour of the Year will also recognize singers Gwen Stefani and Zendaya, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, the founders of the Black Lives Matter campaign, IMF chief Christine Lagarde and

Nadia Murad, the United Nations ambassador who escaped enslavement from Isis.

Idina Menzel: Being engaged is a new beginning

Idina Menzel says her engagement to Aaron Lohr is a "new beginning".

The 45-year-old singer announced her engagement to the theater star via Twitter on Friday (09.23.16), and has now revealed she is "super happy" as it feels like everything is "coming together" for her.

Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ at the iHeart Radio Music Festival on Saturday (09.24.16), the ‘Frozen’ star said: "I’m super happy, yeah! Very happy. I’m happy because it’s all coming together, everything feels good. I went through a lot of stuff and its new beginnings."

However, the ‘Rent’ star – who divorced from actor Taye Diggs in 2014 – still has one more person she’d love to have some alone time with, U2 frontman Bono.

She revealed: "I’ve always said if I could do a duet with someone, it’d be Bono. My whole life, that’s all I’ve ever said. I still have not done a duet with him."

And the ‘Glee’ actress admits it’s her love of singing that encourages her to keep creating, and she was motivated to make her album by people who told her she didn’t have what it takes to break through into the pop genre.

She said: "It’s just what I’ve been wanting to do my whole life. Just make music and sing for a living. To get accolades is great, but it’s just the need to sing.

"Coming from the theater, everybody always said you couldn’t break through with the pop thing and I always believed in myself that I could, so I appreciate people giving me a chance."

U2 announce new album and tour

U2 have announced a new album and accompanying world tour.

The group haven’t yet finished the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Songs of Innocence’, but singer Bono, 56, has confirmed it will be on its way soon and thinks it is even "stronger" than their 1983 LP ‘War’.

And he revealed the band will be on the road in support of the release in 2017 – but teased fans may not have to wait that long for the new music.

Bono spoke to Facebook fan page U2 en España and said: "It’s not finished yet but you will like it. In terms of lyrics it is stronger than ‘War’, it has more clarity".

"The second part of the tour is for 2017… You might see a few things in September or October though."

And the group’s bassist, 56-year-old Adam Clayton has promised fans can get their hands on the record "soon, in the next six months".

Earlier in the year, 54-year-old guitarist The Edge said that the record was a companion piece to their last album and that they are having to be brutal when picking tracks as they have so much material.

He said; "We always envisaged that it would be a two-record set.

"It’s a companion album to ‘Songs of Innocence.’

"We are trying to really be brutal with the material and only focus on the things that we’re really convinced are the best ideas. I would say we’re now at the point of starting to really edit down to the core collection of songs that will make the record. Things are still in their rough state, but sounding really great."

The record is reportedly going to be called ‘Songs of Experience’, in reference to the last LP, which the band caused quite a furore with when they handed it out for free straight into iTunes customers libraries, whether users wanted the record or not.

Bono was locked in a café during the Bastille Day attack

Bono was locked in a café during the attack on Bastille Day.

The 56-year-old musician – whose real name is Paul Hewson – was dining with friends in La Petite Maison in Nice, France, on Thursday (14.07.16) when the devastating massacre took place on the Promenade des Anglais, and he was instructed by restaurant owner Anne-Laure Rubi to hide for half an hour whilst the restaurant barricaded its doors and windows, according to La Parisienne magazine.

The U2 lead singer was trapped inside the building alongside the former mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, and chef Alain Ducasse, until police cleared the area.

The ‘With or Without You’ hitmaker was escorted from the premises with his hands on his head, along with other restaurant-goers.

However, this is not the first time the Irish star has been close to a terror attack.

In November last year Bono and his band mates – who were preparing to grace the stage at the AccorHotels Arena – were merely a few miles away from the terror attack at the Eagles of Death Metal concert in the Bataclan theatre in Paris, which saw 130 civilians killed.

And Bono prayed with the group’s Jesse Hughes "for three or four days" after the terrorist attack at the gig.

Speaking previously, Jesse said: "Without a word, Bono sent me a phone five hours after the shooting started, so I could call my mom.

"I called to say thanks and the next three or four days, he called me, to check on me and pray with me."

The group later returned to the city for what Jesse admitted was the "most important" gig they had ever played.

He said: "This is probably the most important show I’ll ever play. It’s weird, because normally they’re not important, they’re just fun.

"But it turns out, fun is important. Those motherf***ers wanted to snuff out rock and roll and we’re not letting that happen."

Amy Schumer uses Bono to get dates

Amy Schumer uses Bono to get dates.

Although the 35-year-old comedian is currently happily loved-up with boyfriend Ben Hanisch, she quipped that when she is single her best pick up line is telling people she knows the U2 frontman.

In a Twitter Q&A Amy was asked: "What’s your best pick up line?" and simply responded: "I know Bono."

The self-deprecating star also responded to the question of "How long did it take you to break through in show business?" by quipping: "Any day now".

And when asked what she got her ‘Trainwreck’ co-star Colin Quinn for his birthday, Amy joked: "A restraining order."

Bono recently suggested that Amy and fellow comics Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen should be used to combat the extremist group ISIS.

Bono made the tongue-in-cheek recommendation while testifying in the US Senate on ways to address the root causes of terror in the Middle East.

Pointing out that violent regimes of the past have attempted to silence artists who poked fun at them, he said: "It’s like, you speak violence, you speak their language. But you laugh at them when they are goose-stepping down the street and it takes away their power.

"So I am suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer and Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen."

Meanwhile, Amy recently confessed her love for her boyfriend Ben and joked that finding love was her biggest recent "accomplishment".

She said: "We’re really psyched, we’re in love, and I’m really proud.

"Having a boyfriend is my biggest accomplishment this year. I did write and star in a movie – but that’s why I’m here."

And Ben has even gotten the seal of approval from her best friend Jennifer Lawrence as the ‘Hunger Games’ star thinks Ben is very "hot".

She said: "Ben’s great. Ben is, like, hot and when I first saw him I was like ‘Ohhh’ …

"He’s like super sweet, he does not have to be that nice cause he’s hot."

Ticket tipper Chris Martin

Chris Martin "tips in concert tickets".

The Coldplay frontman was one of a number of famous faces Years & Years bassist Mikey Goldsworthy served while working as a waiter at upmarket London restaurant the River Café, and he admits the celebrity diners all tipped at varying rates and he "reluctantly" went to see the ‘Paradise’ hitmakers perform after being rewarded for giving good service to the singer.

Mikey told Q magazine: "Bono was really good. I can’t say how much but he was very generous.

"Paul McCartney was not the best tipper, but it meant more. Hes old school so he came and gave it to you personally.

"Chris Martin tipped in concert tickets. Did I want to go? Will, I went reluctantly all the way to Wembley."

Working in the restaurant and getting so close to the diners meant Mikey often came home with lots of gossip from overheard conversations.

He said: "Victoria Beckham was [there] with David and Gordon Ramsay and I think Gordon paid.

"They were going to start a restaurant but it fell through."

His bandmate Olly Alexander exclaimed: "You have the best goss!"

Bono isn’t the only "really good" celebrity tipper.

It was previously revealed Calvin Harris left a $1,000 tip to the captain and crew of a yacht he rented for six hours after filming his video for ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ starring Gigi Hadid on board.

Last August, Kim Kardashian West gave $300 after lunch with friends at Brennan’s in New Orleans, in recognition of the service they received for their $200 meal.

Amy Schumer left a $500 tip for a student working at Peter’s Clam Bar in Long Island, New York, despite her bill only coming to $49.

The ‘Trainwreck’ star reportedly opted to leave the generous sum after an "engaging, animated conversation with her server, Ryan".

During the course of their conversation, Ryan explained that he was "a college student working two jobs to fund his education" and so Amy decided to be particularly kind when it came to paying the bill.

And last March, Charlie Sheen left a $1,400 tip on a $629 restaurant bill.
