Bono praises Jennifer Lawrence

Bono has praised Jennifer Lawrence for speaking out on gender inequality.
The U2 frontman is impressed by the "sense of solidarity" women seem to have and thought it was great when the ‘Hunger Games’ star penned an essay calling attention to the male/female pay gap last year.
He said in a Facebook Live Q&A: "Gender equality is at the center of any movement that holds fairness, freedom and justice as its core values.
"In Hollywood, Jennifer Lawrence, speaking about how actors are paid. Women have this incredible thing – bond I think you have. More than men. Women [have a] great sense of solidarity."
Bono’s own charitable organisation, One, is currently running a campaign called Poverty is Sexist, and he noted the gender pay gap is a problem in all industries.
He said: "It’s women saying they will not have it anymore. They will not take the bad deal."
Jennifer previously admitted she felt she "had to" speak out about the issue after discovering she had been paid much less than her male ‘American Hustle’ co-stars.
She said: "I felt like I had to say something because we need to talk about it.
"On average, women are paid 21 percent less than men. We can ask for the same exact thing that men do, and we do face the reality that we do get judged more. It’s just something that is intrinsic, and I would love to see change."

Bono not likely to play guitar again

Bono’s chances of playing guitar again are ”not looking good”.

The U2 frontman suffered multiple fractures on his face, arm, shoulder and left hand after falling off his bicycle last November, and as two of his fingers remain numb and won’t extend, he is uncertain whether he can play his instrument any more.

He said: ”It’s not looking good. I’m embarrassed talking about it. It’s just a bummer if you like playing guitar.”

In 2010, the ‘One’ singer underwent surgery following a spinal injury and admitted he was almost left permanently damaged.

He said: ”I nearly crippled myself. I was that close.”

The 55-year-old rocker – who has four kids with wife Ali Hewson – thinks he needs to start taking better care of himself.

He admitted: ”Ali says to me, ‘Can’t you take a hint?’ She says, ‘You drive through life like a tank.’ And it’s true. Edge says I look upon my body as an inconvenience. I guess that’s going to have to stop.”

During U2’s recent run of concerts in Boston, Bono visited throat surgeon Dr. Steven Zeitels and horrified the specialist when he admitted to not having had a check-up in 12 years.

He recalled in an interview with Q magazine: ”He said, ‘Doesn’t your living depend on that? Do you not think that’s a bit odd?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I think that might be a bit odd.’ I shall change.”

U2’s Bono leaves veteran waitress $150 tip

U2’s Bono left a $150 tip to a waitress who served him at a Los Angeles restaurant.

The 55-year-old rocker visited Canters Deli in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday (05.30.15) evening and asked a 50-year-old female waitress to pick out his meal for him.

And it seems the ‘One’ hitmaker was impressed with her choice of a traditional Jewish plate of corned beef reuben, french fries and onion rings as he left a hefty tip for his $20 meal, which also included a free chocolate chip rugelach for dessert, a source told Billboard magazine.

Bono enjoyed his meal so much, he even told the crowd about it at the group’s third night of their five-night residency at the city’s Forum venue.

A show report on the band’s website stated: ”Before’ Iris (Hold Me Close)’, there was talk of LA resident The Edge leaving ‘blood on the dance floor’ after the band’s club gig the night before at the Roxy, as well as Bono’s recent trip to the famed Canter’s deli. U2’s love for L.A. was proclaimed – all of LA – downtown, the valleys, the canyons, and its feeling of ‘what might be’. ”

Bono pays tribute to tour manager

Bono has led tributes to U2’s late tour manager, Dennis Sheehan.

The ‘Ordinary Love’ hitmaker and his bandmates – The Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton – are struggling to come to terms with the death of their longtime friend and colleague, who went into cardiac arrest in his room at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles today (05.27.15), following the first of their five performances at the nearby The Forum last night.

In a touching message on the group’s website, the 55-year-old star wrote: ”We’ve lost a family member, we’re still taking it in. He wasn’t just a legend in the music business, he was a legend in our band. He is irreplaceable.”

Mr. Sheehan, 68, worked with the Irish rockers for more than 30 years after stints on tour with Patti Smith and Led Zeppelin earlier in his career.

Paramedics were called to his room after he went into cardiac arrest in the early hours of this morning and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local news outlet ABC7.

Live Nation’s President of Global Touring Arthur Fogel, who worked closely with U2 and Sheehan over the years, also released the following statement: ”With profound sadness we confirm that Dennis Sheehan, U2’s longstanding tour manager and dear friend to us all, has passed away overnight. Our heartfelt sympathy is with his wonderful family.”

This marks the third bereavement for U2 this year, as they lost their longtime spiritual mentor Pastor Jack Heaslip in February and drummer Larry’s father died in Vancouver earlier this month.

Bono’s eye condition deteriorating

Bono’s eye condition is getting worse.

The U2 frontman has revealed in the past that he wears his ever present sunglasses because his eyes are sensitive to light but his close friend Julian Lennon, son of late Beatles legend John Lennon, has revealed the condition is deteriorating.

He told the Irish Daily Star: "Bono actually has a condition with his eyes. I don’t know the exact issue but the brightness of the sun hurts them and it’s a deteriorating issue."

However, Julian admitted the sunglasses have now become an integral part of Bono’s image too.

He added: "It’s part of his image so in some senses it was lucky but nor really of course.

"Maybe it’s part of his process now and without the image he can’t be Bono."

Speaking about his eye condition previously, Bono, 52, admitted he has to be careful when being photographed by fans and paparazzi.

He said: "I have very sensitive eyes to light. If somebody takes a photograph, I will see the flash for the rest of the day. My right eye swells up."

Bono uncertain of U2’s future

As Irish rockers U2 prepare to launch a massive reissue of their popular 1991 album, Achtung Baby, frontman Bono admits he doesn’t know what lies ahead for the band, if anything, reports Rolling Stone.

"I’m not so sure the future hasn’t dried up," said the singer, who admits his bandmates don’t necessarily agree: "The band are like, ‘Will you shut up about being irrelevant?’"

Bono hopes the band can reinvent themselves as they move forward: "Ironically, being forced to look back at this period reminds me of how we might re-emerge for the next phase," he said. "And that doesn’t mean that you have to wear some mad welder’s goggles or dress up in women’s clothing. Reinvention is much deeper than that."

Still, Bono insists, he’d be all right with ending the legendary band: "We’d be very pleased to end on [2009’s] ‘No Line on the Horizon,’" he said, before immediately admitting it’s not a likely scenario: "I doubt that."

A special reissue of Achtung Baby will be released November 1 in recognition of the album’s 20th anniversary. The album – which includes hit singles Mysterious Ways, One and Even Better than the Real Thing – will be available in five different formats with a wide range of bonus material.

Bono sings with INXS

Australian alt rockers INXS have released a new demo, Tiny Summer, featuring the vocals of none other than U2 frontman Bono, reports Music News.

"Recently at a party I met a fellow songwriter… an Irish bloke, and we sat around playing songs on acoustic guitars," INXS keyboardist and composer Andrew Farriss wrote in a note that accompanied the demo on the band’s official website.

The band also confirmed that they have parted ways with former frontman J.D. Fortune, who first joined the band in 2006 after winning the reality show Rock Star: INXS.

"There has been a lot of speculation in the media regarding INXS and JD Fortune," explains the band’s website. "To all our friends and family, we would like to say we have gone our separate ways to pursue different musical paths. This was a mutual and amicable decision. We would like to thank JD for all the memories, and wish him all the best for his future endeavors."

Lady Gaga to perform for Bill Clinton

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton will be honored with a superstar bash – including performances by Lady Gaga, U2’s Bono and The Edge, and Usher – at the Hollywood Bowl next month, in recognition of his charitable organization’s tenth year of operations, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Rather than appearing on television, A Decade of Difference: A Concert Celebrating 10 Years of the William J. Clinton Foundation will be broadcast online exclusively through Yahoo! on October 15.

As well as honoring the charity – which has raised over $10 million for various causes over the years – the concert will also serve as a late birthday party for Clinton himself, as the ex-President turned 65 on August 19.

Details are still being worked out, but a long list of musicians and Hollywood celebrities are expected to put in an appearance. Unlike the invite-only Rolling Stones concert that celebrated Clinton’s 60th birthday, however, tickets for the upcoming concert are expected to also be made available to the general public.

Bono says U2 taking a break

After the biggest tour in their career, with record-breaking attendance of more than 7 million and grossing more than $700 million, Irish quartet U2 has decided to take a very well-deserved break from the spotlight, reports Gibson.

After 110 shows over 23 months around the world for the U2 360° Tour, the four musicians, ages 49 to 51, needed a break, according to a media interview given by Bono during an evening gala for GQ Men of the Year Awards.

“They say every tour is ten days too long. Not with this one. We genuinely loved every single night and at the end we were so sad.”

Despite the nostalgia, the 51-year-old said they needed a break and wouldn’t be back “for a while.”

Earlier, he told the audience: ‘Growing up is not what is meant to happen to a rock band. It has happened, we are now men.’

Although retreating from the spotlight, U2 will return to the studio to work on their next album, Songs of Ascent, expected out sometime in 2012.

Here comes the Spider-Man cast album

The upcoming new Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark – with music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge – has just released its first official single, called Rise Above 1, reports Star Pulse.

The tune made its debut during Thursday’s American Idol finale (May 26), and is now available through streaming and iTunes download. Reeve Carney stars in the production as Spider-Man (and alter-ego Peter Parker), and performs the track – with a little help from Bono and The Edge.

Rise Above 1
is the first of 14 tracks that will be released on the musical’s official soundtrack, Music From Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. The soundtrack recordings are all performed by the original Broadway cast – including Carney, along with Jennifer Damiano in the role of Mary-Ann, T.V. Carpio as Arachne and Patrick Page as the Green Goblin.

Bono and The Edge feature on the album, with instrumental music provided by the show’s 20-piece orchestra.
