Bono Is a Fan of Girls Aloud

At the BRIT Awards last night (February 18), Bono jokingly told The Sun that he wants to join the group Girls Aloud, which is formed by Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Kimberly Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle.

"I want to be in Girls Aloud. But seriously, I think they are at the cutting edge of pop music. They are a great band and they deserve to be centre stage. They have everything a pop band should have – songs, the look, it’s all there," the U2 singer said.

U2 Finally Announces a Release Date

According to Rolling Stone, March 3 will be when the Irish group’s disc hits the shelves.

We don’t know the names of all of the songs to be included on the album, except for Moment of Surrender and Unknown Caller.

Rumour has it that U2 recorded between 50 and 60 songs with the same producers who worked with them on their legendary disc, Joshua Tree.  Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Steve Lillywhite joined U2 once more for the upcoming album.

The album will be the first new material from U2 since 2004’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.  Bono and his band mates are also planning a world tour, to be produced by Live Nation.

Bono Enjoys Himself in St-Tropez

The U2 frontman was spotted with two 19-year-old women while vacationing in St-Tropez last month.

The photographs, in which Bono is seen with his arms around the women, were recently published on the girls’ Facebook page.

Bono was on vacation with his friend, Simon Carmody, an Irish musician, when he met the American student Andrea Feick and her best friend, Hannah Emerson of England.

Feick said that the two girls partied with Bono and Carmody at the Nikki Beach hotel, and also on a yacht owned by The Edge, but insisted that their time spent together was purely platonic.

The U2 singer and his wife, Ali, have been happily married for 26 years.

Bono Becomes a Journalist

According to a report by Rolling Stone, Bono will be quite busy in 2009, now that he has agreed to write a few articles for the New York Times.

The news was confirmed by newspaper editor Andrew Rosenthal when he spoke to Columbia University journalism students.

Rosenthal told them that the star would demonstrate versatility in writing on various subjects of music from Frank Sinatra to poverty in Africa.

The Irish singer will write for the paper for free, since he decided he doesn’t need the supplementary salary.

This isn’t the first time that Bono enters the realm of journalism. In 2007, he acted as a co-editor for Vanity Fair and has also done work for The Independent in 2006.

Spider-Man Musical to Hit Broadway

According to the New York Post, the musical Spider-Man, which is headed for Broadway next year, starring U2’s frontman Bono, is poised to be a smash hit. The production cost was reported at more than $40 million.

Director Julie Taymor (Across the Universe, Frida) will be responsible for bringing the project to life. Taymor already has some experience in the theatrical department, since she’s directed the Disney musical, The Lion King.

It seems that the astronomical price tag for the production is a result of the anticipated cost of costumes.

The New York newspaper made a prediction that the production budget could be reduced to $35 million, but even with this attempt, there would be no proof that the musical will be profitable.

Bono and The Edge Collaborate with Tom Jones

After 15 years of not cutting an album in the United States, Tom Jones will be making a comeback with 24 Hours, to be released on November 25.

The album will have new songs, such as Suggar Daddy, a collaboration with Bono and The Edge.

The album features two remakes. One is of Bruce Springsteen’s The Hitter and the other is I’m Alive, which was a song by Tommy James and the Shondells.

At 68, Tom Jones says the fire is still inside. He co-wrote or collaborated with songwriters on each of the songs.

He also wants his voice to sound as natural as possible, despite the arrangements and production having a modern approach.

His last album, 2000’s Reload, was never released in the U.S.
