Big Three start winding down Boxing Week offers

It looks like the Big Three carriers are winding down their Boxing Week promotions. Telus has already removed its Boxing Week offers, while Rogers has labelled several of its plans as expiring on January 10th. So far, Bell’s website simply says, “Boxing Week offers extended,” and doesn’t indicate when any of the promotions will end.

Telus now offers the following plans (along with comparisons to the Boxing Week offers):

  • $85/mo 25GB (up to 250Mbps) | previously $85/mo 50GB (up to 250Mbps)
  • $95/mo 50GB (up to 1Gbps) | previously $90/mo 100GB (up to 1Gbps)
  • $105/mo 60GB (up to 1Gbps) + Unlimited Canada-U.S. calling, texting, and data | previously $95/mo 100GB (up to 1Gbps) + Unlimited Canada-U.S. calling, texting, and data
  • $125/mo 100GB (up to 1Gbps) + Unlimited Canada-U.S. calling, texting, and data | not part of Boxing Week offers

Telus plans as of January 10th, 2023.

It’s worth noting that Telus’ plans offer unlimited data, which means once you’ve used all the data included on the plan, you can keep using data at a slower speed of up to 512Kbps. Moreover, the new Telus plans match up with the carrier’s pre-Boxing Week plans, which MobileSyrup documented in mid-December. You can check out the Telus plans here.

Rogers plans as of January 10th, 2023.

Rogers, on the other hand, still has its Boxing Week promos available, including offers like $75/mo 50GB and $80/mo 100GB (both include the automatic payment discount). The website lists the plans as ending on January 10th, although Rogers’ $55/mo 25GB add-a-line plan will end on the 11th instead. If you want to take advantage of some of Rogers’ Boxing Week offers, you may want to do so today.

You can check out Rogers’ plans here.

Bell plans as of January 10th, 2023.

Finally, as mentioned above, Bell still lists all its Boxing Week offers but with no end date. I would be surprised if Bell kept these deals going beyond January 10th, however, given that the carrier’s flanker brand, Virgin Plus, lists that date as the end of its Boxing Week offers.

You can check Bell’s plans here.

We’ll update this post with new details when these promotional plans are removed.

Last chance for $50/40GB Boxing Week plan at Fido, Koodo, Virgin

Today looks to be the last day for the $45/20GB and $50/40GB Boxing Week plans at Fido, Koodo, and Virgin Plus. Both Fido and Koodo now list the plan as ending on January 9th — Virgin Plus didn’t have a similar label at the time of writing, but it likely will follow the other two.

Koodo first launched the plans on December 13th, and Fido and Virgin launched their versions of the plans the following day. The plans have been available since then, but they were limited-time promotional offers, so it’s no surprise the plans are going away.

At all three providers, the plans actually cost $60/20GB and $65/40GB, but come with a $15/mo credit for 15 months. The downside is that anyone who signs up will need to be ready to switch carriers in 15 months’ time unless they’re okay with paying a higher monthly price. That said, Black Friday and Boxing Week 2023 will happen within that time frame, which means customers could potentially switch to a different promotional plan before the credit expires.

The deal isn’t as good for those looking to get a phone with one of these providers, as the phone contracts are 24 months long, so customers will be stuck paying the higher cost for the last nine months of their contract.

Aside from the large data buckets, these plans also include unlimited Canada-wide text messaging, unlimited Canada-wide calling, and other features that vary from provider to provider, such as voicemail, call display, international texting, and more.

If you’re in the market for a new plan, you may want to pick up one of these deals before they go away — it’s unclear what plan options will be available tomorrow, but they’ll likely cost more and have less data. Before the flanker providers added the Boxing Week plans, they had $60/10GB and $65/20GB plans.

You can check out Fido’s plans here, Koodo’s plans here, and Virgin’s plans here.

Freedom Mobile discounts yearly plan with 50GB to $99

This plan is for you if you live in the greater Toronto area or somewhere else with good Freedom mobile coverage and rarely travel.

For $99 per year, you can get 50GB of data annually and unlimited talk and text within Canada. This plan is also pre-paid, meaning it’s a one-time payment. That said, new plans also have a one-time $10 activation fee.

There’s also a cheaper plan with pay-per-use data that costs $89, but at this price, paying the extra $10 for 50GB of data seems worth it to me. Ideally, this plan could be good for family members who don’t leave the city much or who don’t use a phone often but like to have one just in case.

This discount is a Boxing Week offer, so we don’t expect it to last much longer.

Google drops Pixel 7 to $649, Pixel 7 Pro to $879

All Boxing Week long, Google is selling the brand new Pixel 7 series of phones for discounts akin to its Black Friday deals.

If you’re considering buying either of these phones, you can read our reviews below. In summary, the Pixel 7 ($649) is an excellent value for a solid phone, while the Pixel 7 Pro ($879) has a zoom camera, a slightly better screen and a bigger body. There’s also a discount on the lower-cost Pixel 6a ($499).

You can view all the deals on the Google Store here.

While not usually a better buy, most Canadian carriers also have the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro on sale. For instance, Bell, Rogers and Telus have it down to 15 per month, which works out to roughly $360 for the phone over a two-year contract.

In a year when iPhone discounts seem harder to come by, Google’s aggressive pricing and marketing might finally help it generate some market share — a good thing in iPhone-dominant North America.

Telus offering $100/year unlimited talk plan for Boxing Week

Vancouver-based national telecom Telus has another Boxing Week offer that slipped under the radar: $100/year for talk and text.

Spotted by RedFlagDeals user ‘Giorgiodethrifty‘, this Telus plan might work for you if you’re looking for a basic, low-cost calling plan, though it does come with some major caveats. First, the plan typically gives customers 400 anytime local minutes for the year, which isn’t a lot. However, the Boxing Week offer bumps that up to unlimited nationwide minutes for one year. As far as I’m concerned, that makes this Telus plan a much better option.

Unfortunately, texting is still limited to 400 incoming and outgoing SMS and MMS messages, which also is not a lot. Still, if you’re all about calling, the texting limits may not matter much to you.

You can find the deal here.

1TB iPhone 13 Pro available for $39/mo at Fido, Koodo

If you’re in the market for an iPhone 13 Pro with lots of storage, now might be the time to buy. According to deals spotting by RedFlagDeals (RFD) user ‘waterwaterwater,’ the 1TB iPhone 13 Pro is available at Koodo and Fido for $39/mo over two years.

Fido’s offer uses the provider’s device financing, which means customers pay $0 down and $39/mo for 24 months ($936 total before tax). Typically, Fido charges $83.12/mo financing for the 1TB iPhone 13 Pro, so this isn’t a bad deal.

Similarly, Koodo has the 1TB iPhone 13 Pro on a $39/mo Tab instead of through financing. However, the pricing works out the same at $936 over 24 months. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Koodo was out of stock on the 1TB 13 Pro, but it had the 512GB at the same $39/mo price.

Also at the time of writing, Virgin Plus did not have the iPhone 13 Pro.  It’s worth noting that Apple no longer sells the iPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max, so any available stock is leftover from before the iPhone 14 Pro launch.

Plus, with Koodo and Fido both offering $50/40GB plans for Boxing Week, the deal is a little sweeter. The main downside is that the $50 plan only lasts 15 months, so for the remainder of the contract, you’ll need to pay $65/mo instead. However, some RFD users reported success in keeping the $45/50GB Black Friday plan and getting the iPhone 13 Pro — the Black Friday plan lasts 24 months before the price goes up.

Anyway, if you want to grab an iPhone 13 Pro with tons of storage for a lower price than normal, you may want to move quick before stock runs out. You can grab the 512GB from Koodo here, or the 1TB from Fido here.

Virgin Plus rolls out holiday deals with discounts on Pixel, Galaxy

Bell’s Virgin Plus has started rolling out smartphone deals to match its $50/40GB and $45/20GB promo plans. Check out some of the highlights below:

Aside from the online deals, some RedFlagDeals users were able to get a deal on the iPhone 14, nabbing it plus the 40GB plan for $75/mo total. Based on the details shared on RFD, it seems like Virgin is offering some bill credit or other discount since online the iPhone 14 costs $47.12/mo financing.
