Brad Marchand calls out the NHL after Game 4 on Sunday.

The Boston Bruins earned a huge win on Sunday when they took Game 4 over the Florida Panthers, securing a commanding 3-1 lead in the opening round series between the two Stanley Cup hopefulls.

While you might think that would have put the Bruins in a good mood, Bruins forward Brad Marchand clearly had a bone to pick after the game. Some of the antics that occurred during the game, including all hell breaking loose late in the third period, might lead you to believe that Marchand had a bone to pick with the Panthers, but instead the Bruins agitator’s issues were with the National Hockey League itself.

Following the conclusion of Game 4, Marchand was asked about controversial comments made by Matthew Tkachuk earlier in the series.

Again you might have expected Marchand to use the opportunity to roast Tkachuk for some pretty ugly comments that were caught on a hot mic, but this is where Marchand chose to call out the NHL instead. The Bruins agitator chastised the league, and their media partners, for allowing the comments from Tkachuk to be caught on a mic in the first place.

“I think the NHL and the media outlets have crossed the line to allow those mics …” said an infuriated Marchand.

According to Matt Porter of the Boston Globe, Marchand would go even one step further and called the entire situation “very disrespectful” to the agreement between the NHL and NHLPA.

It certainly sounds like there may be some fallout here, although much of that is likely to occur behind closed doors and away from the prying eyes of fans.

Brad Marchand makes Bruins history in Game 1 win

As expected, the Boston Bruins took care of business against the visiting Florida Panthers in Game 1 of their opening round postseason series. Their 3-1 victory gave them the 1-0 series advantage, and they’re now only 15 wins away from their first Stanley Cup since 2011.

And it was the usual suspects coming through in the clutch for Boston, with David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand and Jake DeBrusk lighting the lamp; Linus Ullmark made 31 saves.

And Marchand’s goal, which happened to be the 50th of his postseason career, also made Bruins history.

Per ESPN Stats and Info:

“Brad Marchand has 50th career playoff goal, joining Cam Neely (55) as the only players to score at least 50 playoff goals with Bruins. Marchand’s streak of 6 straight home playoff games with a goal is the longest in Bruins’ franchise history.”

The Bruins and Panthers will get back at it tomorrow night from TD Garden.

Updates on Bergeron, Marchand and Krejci on Saturday.

The Boston Bruins are just days away from the start of the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs and after such a successful regular season effort, you know the expectations being placed on the Bruins’ shoulders are at an all-time high.

That being said things aren’t perfect for the Bruins coming into the playoffs and unfortunately that appears to include a few things on the injury front as well. On Saturday, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery provided a number of status updates regarding his core players, including an update on the status of Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron.

“You know we’re just giving him extra rest,” said Montgomery on Saturday. “He’s had a long year.”

Bergeron was notably absent from practice on Saturday and after he left the final game of the regular season early, that has understandably caused some concern ahead of the playoffs. That being said Montgomery downplayed the situation as best that he could and did something similar when the topic of Bruins forward Marchand came up.

“Same thing with Marchy,” said Montgomery. “Marchy wanted to give it a try today and he had a little bit of soreness so I said ‘Get off the ice.'”

Montgomery cited a hard practice repeatedly as the reason for being extra careful with some of his guys on Saturday, something that lines up with the scrimmage the Bruins had on the day. It sounds like Nick Foligno, Derek Forbort, and perhaps the returning David Krejci were the motivating factors behind that particular decision.

“The reason I wanted to have a hard practice with some scrimmage involved is we’re looking at Foligno and Forbort and we wanna see where their condition at game speed is,” confirmed Montgomery.

Brad Marchand got off lightly all thanks to the Bruins!

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand had fallen into a bit of a slump as of late as he was trying to break it before the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs.

He finally did it on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals, snapping his 17-game scoring drought when beating goalie Charlie Lindgren. The funny thing is that barely no one noticed Marchand’s struggles since the Bruins have been so good.

Marchand had scored his last goal on March 9 against the Edmonton Oilers. He had previously gone 20 games without one in his rookie season in 2009-10, 15 games in the 2014-15 season, but went all the way up to 17 games during this stretch.

The 2022-23 season was not a great one for Marchand, who did not produce at his normal rate over the last month. However, he is expected to put up better numbers once the postseason rolls around.

Marchand has been the Bruins’ leading playoff goal scorer in each of the team’s last four seasons. Last spring, he led the Bruins in playoff goals (4), assists (7) and points (11) through the team’s seven-game series against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The end of this unnoticed 17-game scoring drought might be what Marchand needed to start the playoffs with a bang!

Brad Marchand mired in major slump

The good news for the Boston Bruins this season is that they’re easily the top squad out of all 32 National Hockey League teams, having already secured the President’s Trophy as the top regular season squad with plenty of games to go still on the schedule.

The bad news is that forward Brad Marchand, who is one of the focal points of the offensive attack, is mired in a pretty big slump of late. To be specific, it’s been 13 games since he’s last lit the lamp, which took place on March 9 against the Edmonton Oilers. It’s been eight years since he’s experienced something like this, as it was in 2015 that he underwent a career high slump of 15 games of not finding the back of the net.

For Marchand, who missed the first portion of the regular season after recovering from offseason surgery, he’s admitted to feeling not in perfect form.

“I thought I’d feel better now than I do, to be honest with you,” Marchand said on March 8, just before the start of his current drought. “I think it’s been great, it’s been really relieving that we have the team we have and we’re as deep as we are. That definitely takes pressure off. But I thought I’d be kind of where I was last year right now, and I don’t necessarily feel like that.

“It just gets a little frustrating when I have an expectation to play a certain way and it’s not necessarily there yet,” he added.

Right now, Marchand has tallied 63 points in 68 games played, good for just slightly under a point per game pace.

He and the Bruins will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on their division and Original 6 rival Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto.

Torey Krug roasts former teammate Brad Marchand on Sunday.

The Boston Bruins faced off against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday and that meant that Blues defenseman Torey Krug would be getting a reunion of sorts with his longtime former teammates in Boston.

Krug was of course signed as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State University by the Bruins and spent the first 9 seasons of his career in the National Hockey League with that organization. That being said it would come as a surprise to no one to learn that Krug has forged lifelong friendships with members of the Bruins roster, something that no doubt makes these games against the Bruins both challenging and exhilarating for the veteran defenseman.

Prior to the game on Sunday, Krug was asked if he was forced to temporarily suspend those friendships when facing off against the Bruins, and he took the opportunity to take a hilarious shot at former teammate Brad Marchand.

“That’s right, especially the guy with a big nose,” said Krug of his unfortunate looking friend.

Marchand has of course been ripped throughout his career by fans, opponents and just about everyone else regarding the size of his schnoz, but it’s particularly amusing to hear it from a former teammate that spent nearly a decade playing alongside him.

Biznasty and Brad Marchand sound off on Jordan Binnington.

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has stirred up quite a bit of controversy this season, and on Sunday night the NHL on TNT crew had a controversial guest on their broadcast and decided to bring up the topic of Binnington.

That guest was none other than notorious Bruins agitator Brad Marchand, who was set to faceoff against Binnington and the Blues just moments after the conclusion of this interview.

It was former National Hockey League player Paul “Biznasty” Bissonnette who brought up the topic of Binnington, taking shots of his own at the Blues netminder.

“Jordan Binnington is getting the start tonight, he’s a bit of a loose cannon like you,” began Biznasty. “Does it make you a little hesitant to go to the crease area when a goalie like that, who is fit for a straight jacket, is playing?”

Rather than attack Binnington though, Marchand appeared to indicate that he appreciated the antics of the Blues goaltender from a pure entertainment perspective.

“It’s always entertaining,” admitted Marchand. “I think we can all agree that it’s fun to put some TNT or whatever on every morning and see what he gets up to.”

No stranger to players with a bad reputation in the NHL, Marchand even joked that Binnington could potentially be in the process of stealing his crown.

“He makes me look like a good guy though so I love it,” joked Marchand. “I used to be the most hated I think he’s kind of taken that over now.”

Biz on the other hand wasn’t so convinced, believing that the title of most hated player still belongs to Marchand himself, and he told Marchand as much by letting him know to “pump the breaks” on that topic.

Bruins admit uncomfortable truth after rare loss

Things didn’t go according to plan for the NHL-leading Boston Bruins last night against the visiting Nashville Predators, who were able to dole the President’s Trophy frontrunners an extremely rare regulation home setback thanks to killing off five power play opportunities.

And after battles against top Eastern Conference foes in the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins admit they may have overlooked the Predators, who are battling for their playoff lives. Forward Brad Marchand admitted as much, but said that it’s a good learning opportunity.

“We obviously took them lightly. We seem to get up for the games [against the] teams that we could potentially face down the road,” Marchand said. “I think we were just a little disrespectful of the game tonight against this team, and I think definitely fatigue comes into it.

“But we’re going to run into situations where we are tired moving forward and we still need to be able to show up. It is what it is. Learn from it and move on.”

As far as captain Patrice Bergeron is concerned, the Bruins have nobody but themselves to blame for the loss on home ice.

“Tonight was one of those nights where we did it to ourselves,” said Bergeron. “No disrespect to them because I obviously think they played a great game and they did what they had to, but we just didn’t execute and that’s what you’re going to get.

“To me it was just that we didn’t play to our standards and to our process, and our details. When you do that, you force plays and you don’t respect the way you want to play the game while getting away from what makes you successful. That’s what you get.”

Boston will have a chance to earn their 58th win of the season when they take on the tanking Columbus Blue Jackets.
