How to clear your Android smartphone’s cache

Cache refers to the temporary files that apps store over time. Cached data is useful — it’s there to help your apps load quicker and run smoother.

Of course, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing. If you’ve been using the same phone for a long time, some spring cleaning might be in order. That’s because over time cache data can balloon in size and rob you of valuable storage space.

Thankfully, if your phone runs Android, clearing an app’s cache is a simple process:

Launch the “settings” app on your phone. From here, navigate to the “apps” category.

You’ll be greeted with a list of all your installed apps in alphabetic order. Tap on the “storage” subsection, then tap “clear cache.”

And that’s it! Follow the same process to clear the cache of any installed app on your Android. You won’t lose any user data or be logged out of any accounts, either.

It’s worth noting that the process might differ slightly depending on which Android phone you’re using. Different phone makers like Samsung and OnePlus have a tenancy to fiddle with the organization of settings on their devices.

If you’re on an iPhone, unfortunately, Apple doesn’t make the process nearly as easy. Some apps support cache clearing within the “settings” app, but most don’t.

If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll see the functionality added in the upcoming iOS 17 update.

Kate Winslet wanted to hide pregnancy

Kate Winslet hid her third pregnancy for as long as possible.

The 39-year-old actress gave birth to 18-month-old Bear Blaze in December 2013 – her child with third husband Ned Rocknroll – but initially didn’t tell anyone on the set of the movie she was shooting, ‘A Little Chaos’, that she was expecting because she ”didn’t want people to be making a fuss”.

The British star explained: ”I just didn’t want people to be making a fuss over me. When women are pregnant, it doesn’t mean you stop doing things … you just get on with it, so that’s what I did.”

Kate was forced to wear uncomfortable corsets in the period-film while in her first trimester, but she just got on with it because it was necessary for the role, although she did warn director Alan Rickman that her boobs were likely to grow in size.

She explained to Us Weekly magazine: ”The corset from that time period actually stops right at your navel. So that was not an issue. It was really just what to do with the boobs!

”(I said to Alan), ‘You just might have to accept that my boobs are going to get massive.’ And he was like, ‘I think I can cope with that!’ ”

The Academy Award winner has two other children, Mia, 14, with her first husband Jim Threapleton and Joe, 11, from her second marriage to ‘Spectre’ director Sam Mendes.
