Luxurious camping at the London Zoo

The London Zoo is offering a unique chance to pitch a tent on its grounds overnight for one week in May. Adulsts can enjoy luxurious camping – also known as ‘glamping’ – in one of ten safari tents.

Accommodation will sleep up to two people, and to make your stay as comfortable as possible, will include comfy beds with regular bedding, linens and towels, bedside table, and even a reading lamp.

Throughout the evening, guests will be wined and dined with a three-course dinner and fine wines while being entertained with exclusive animal and conservation talks… all hosted by a wildlife expert.

Each night can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests, who will be taken on a torch-lit tour around the zoo to find out what goes on when everyone else has left for the night. It’s surprising to see who’s still awake and actually more active at night than during the day.

In the morning, campers might be woken by a gibbon’s call or the roar from a lion, before enjoying a full English breakfast. Afterwards there’s a morning tour to watch the animals waking up. Guests are then welcome to spend the rest of the day exploring the zoo, which will safely store luggage until guests are ready to leave.

The one-of-a-kind experience will be something to remember, and at a price of $360 for one night, why not go a little wild?

You should know that you don’t have to go all the way to London for a night at the zoo. In Quebec, the Granby Zoo offers a similar package Safari Adventure for $135.

Camping on land… and sea?

An amphibious trailer that will allow camping enthusiasts to travel both by land and sea is expected to go on sale next year, reports the Daily Mail.

Dubbed the Sealander, the trailer-boat features full cooking, bathing and sleeping amenities, just like any mobile home. When faced with a body of water, however, the trailer converts into a boat, complete with its own outboard motor and double hull to prevent leaks.

"This extends the possibilities of camping and leisure. Whoever travels with our floating caravan can spend free time on both land and on water," explained Daniel Straub, creator of the Sealander.

"It’s just like a holiday should be – up to them and unlimited possibilities. You can settle for the night at the campsite and during the day sunbathe, cruise on the lake or even go fishing for dinner."

Currently, the sole available design is only able to handle shallow bodies of water, but Straub says he is working on bigger models that would be able to handle larger lakes and possibly even the sea.

Parks Canada celebrates 100 years at SkyDome campsite

As part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of Parks Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays are hosting an overnight camp-out in Rogers Centre (formerly the SkyDome) later this month.

The $100 ticket includes admission to 100-level seats to watch the Jays take on the Houston Astros on May 21.

Earlier in the day, a street fair will take place outside by the CN Tower, with the Parks Canada anniversary celebration including live music, and appearances by ‘Anne of Green Gables’ and the new Parks Canada mascot. Visitors to the fair can dress up like Vikings, take part in historic period games, and dance to the pipes and drums.

Following the Blue Jays baseball game, event ticket holders will be invited to spread their sleeping bags upon the field for an overnight stay filled with movies and fun activities, including an outdoor concert.

A pizza dinner on Saturday and a buffet breakfast on Sunday morning are included in the ticket price, as is an autograph session with the players.

One way to travel light in France

France, a European leader in offering customized vacations for nudists, has launched a new website to help naturists find destinations and resources for this burgeoning form of tourism, reports Routard.

The website was created by the French Federation of Naturism (la Fédération Française de Naturisme) to gather together information from five different nudist groups in one convenient location.

The site includes relevant links to naturist websites, and offers a comprehensive list of nudist beaches, campgrounds and tourism centers.

Naturist tourism is a fast-growing industry in France. The country boasts no fewer than 83 nudist centers, 30 campsites and 25 cottages, and welcomes about 2 million naturist tourists a year.

The website also contains an online interactive quiz to determine if you have the right mindset to enjoy and thrive in the naturist world. Quiz participants are also entered in a draw for a week-long stay.

According to the International Naturist Federation, June 2 is the World Day of Naturism.
