Actor Carl Weathers dies at 76

Actor Carl Weathers, star of the Rocky franchise and numerous hit films, passed away in his sleep, TMZ reports.

The artist was beloved by many moviegoers for his distinctive and diverse appearances in several cult films, including Happy Gilmore and Predator.

But it was of course his portrayal of Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, alongside Sylvester Stallone, that made him immortal.

Weathers contributed to the success of the Rocky saga, his character even enabling the franchise to be extended through the new Creed film series, starring Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, Apollo’s son.

Carl Weathers was 76 years old.

Carl Weathers leaks that filming is underway for The Mandalorian S3

It sounds like filming has started for the third season of The Mandalorian.

GamesRadar spotted an October 12th tweet from actor Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), who said that Season Three “begins for Yours Truly, on tomorrow.”

While not much to go on, Weathers’ tweet is among the few things we’ve heard about Season Three in a while. It also lines up with previous information — The Mandalorian creator (and fellow Jon) Jon Favreau said in December 2020 that Season Three would start production after The Book of Boba Fett, which is set to premiere on Disney+ starting December 29th.

However, it’s also worth noting that Pedro Pascal, the actor that plays the titular Mandalorian, is still in Calgary filming The Last of UsGiven that his character is fully suited, though, he likely doesn’t need to be present for now.

The Mandalorian Season Two wrapped up in December 2020 and fans have eagerly been waiting to see what happens next with Mando, Baby Yoda and other characters. Unfortunately, it seems like we may be waiting a little longer to find out.

In the meantime, The Book of Boba Fett, along with other Star Wars shows like the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (potentially arriving in 2022), will have to tide fans over.

We also still don’t know what The Mandalorian Season Three will be about, but it’s probably a safe bet that it’ll wrap up some loose ends from season two. Disney may reveal more about The Mandalorian and/or other Star Wars shows at its inaugural Disney+ Day event next month.

To watch The Book of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian season three, you’ll need a Disney+ subscription, which costs $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year in Canada. Of course, with The Mandalorian still likely several months away at least, you may want to wait to subscribe if that’s all you care about.

Chicago Justice is cancelled

‘Chicago Justice’ has reportedly been cancelled.

Bosses at NBC have reportedly decided not to recommission the American legal drama television series, which was created by Dick Wolf, for another run after the first season pulled in its lowest ever viewing figures of the ‘Chicago’ franchise.

However, it’s not all bad news as the other shows in the inter-connected TV world – ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago P.D.’ and ‘Chicago Med’ – will all return next year, according to Deadline.com.

The news that the fourth installment has been given the chop will no doubt come as a huge shock to the show’s cast; which includes Carl Weathers and Philip Winchester.

Action veteran Weathers – who played the State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies in the drama – recently admitted he found it a fantastic challenge to change gears and be part of legal drama which deals with so many issues affecting the modern world and was hopeful it would go on.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz , he said: "It’s an entertaining show first and foremost and it’s a show that gives you a peek behind the scenes of a justice department of Cook County Chicago Illinois, to see what a prosecutor’s office does. We dramatize these crimes that are committed and the victims of crimes on a weekly basis … We deal with all types of topics like race, religion, and all sorts of crimes including terrorism.

"So the ripped from the headlines aspect of what Dick Wolf has done for many, many years is integral to our show. It’s been really wonderful to be in it."

Carl Weathers wants to work with Idris Elba

Carl Weathers wants to work with Idris Elba.

The 69-year-old star – who played the loud-mouthed pugilist Apollo Creed opposite Sylvester Stallone in four ‘Rocky’ films – is a huge fan of BBC police drama ‘Luther’ and thinks Idris is incredible as the tough detective.

‘Chicago Justice’ star Weathers would love to drop into the show as an American criminal who Luther has to bring down and he’s hoping his comments will lead to him getting a call from the team.

He told BANG Showbiz: "I’m such a fan of ‘Luther’, it really is brilliant and I’ve got to give props to Idris because what he does with that character is really riveting. I would love to play a character in that whose very, very American but who comes to the UK, for whatever reason, and is involved in something he needs to look into. I love the BBC, I think the BBC creates some really great programming and I’ve seen enough of those shows to welcome a part. It certainly wouldn’t be bad to have to live in London for a while."

Meanwhile, Idris previously teased a ‘Luther’ film could happen.

He said: "A film is on the wish list. I think John Luther could transfer really well to a film. We haven’t quite got there yet, but yeah man, it could happen."

And if a movie doesn’t get the green light then the ‘Jungle Book’ star is happy to shoot another series for BBC One, despite his huge success in Hollywood.

When asked if he wants to return to the character on the small screen, he added: "I’d like to. The audience loved John Luther and I don’t think the story’s over yet."
