Chris Pratt’s original Mario voice was scrapped for sounding too much like Tony Soprano

Chris Pratt has revealed that his first attempt at voicing Mario for The Super Mario Bros. Movie was rejected by the film’s directors, and for a pretty comical reason.

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic both believed that Pratt’s first rendition of the iconic Nintendo character sounded too close to that of Tony Soprano, the mob boss played by the late great James Gandolfini in HBO’s The Sopranos.

“For a minute, I walked in and they were like, ‘That’s a little New Jersey. You’re doing a Tony Soprano thing,’” Pratt said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actor went on to say that he was so eager to star in the film that he didn’t even have a chance to work out what the character should sound like.

“I think both [Charlie Day and I] said yes. Didn’t even ask, ‘What’s the deal? What’s the story?’ ‘Yes, I’m in.’ And then we had to really dig in and figure out…are they Italian? Are they American?”

According to the two leads, both Pratt and Day worked with a variety of different voice iterations for the film, including taking inspiration from the original Mario voice actor, Charles Martinet.

“I tried out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear,” Pratt added.

Thankfully, despite the change, directors Jelenic and Horvath have gone on record defending Pratt, saying that he is perfect for the role.

It appears the decision to cast Pratt paid off, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie scoring the top opening of all time for an animated film earning $375.6 million in worldwide ticket sales during the long Easter weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hear Chris Pratt try to be Italian again in new Super Mario Bros. movie trailer

Nintendo has debuted the second trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Revealed during a November 29th Nintendo Direct, the trailer lets us hear more of Chris Pratt’s bizarre Mario voice as well as Charlie Day’s Luigi, who both said little during last month’s debut teaser. As previously teased, the trailer also introduces Princess Peach, played by Anya Taylor-Joy.

We also get nods to classic Mario staples like the Fire Bar and even Mario Kart. Unfortunately, we only get a glimpse at Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong as he’s about to fight Mario — we don’t get to hear the Canadian funnyman’s voice. (He did appear in the Direct via a pre-recorded live-action talking segment, however.) Additionally, Nintendo says that Charles Martinet, the long-running voice of Mario in the games, will appear in “surprise cameos.”

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) serve as co-directors. Composer Brian Tyler (Avengers: Age of Ultron) is also working with original Mario series composer Koji Kondo to integrate some of his iconic tunes into the original score.

Following a delay out of 2022The Super Mario Bros. Movie will hit North American theatres on April 7th, 2023.

Chris Pratt says his Mario voice will be an ‘updated’ version

When hearing that Chris Pratt would play the role of the Nintendo’s famous plumber, Mario from the Super Mario franchises, it was an odd selection to take in.

Pratt, whose role was announced in 2021, seems confident that he can nail the role as an Italian plumber. In a report from Variety, Pratt says his role will be “updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before,” a noble statement considering the amount of criticism going around for him receiving the role with a non-Italian background.

However, Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri backed Pratt’s upcoming performance in the film.

Meledandri, who is of Italian-American heritage, says he’s not worried about offending Italians or Italian Americans and that he thinks Pratt will turn heads once the film is released, according to a report by Deadline.

As someone of full Italian descent, I found it amusing that Pratt was selected, and I’m really curious, as many others are, to see how he will sound as Mario when the film is out.

Pratt will also be voice acting another famous animated character in Garfield, which fans poked jokes at with some memes.

The Mario movie was anticipated for release in December 2022 but was pushed to April 7th, 2023, for North America.

It will star Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Canadian Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. A cameo by the original Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will also be included.

Anna Faris’ ‘awesome’ breast implants

Anna Faris has admitted getting breast implants felt "f***ing awesome".

The 41-year-old actress decided to go under the knife to have her breasts enlarged 10 years ago after her divorce from first husband Ben Indra, and has admitted that she doesn’t regret the decision at all, as she feels much more confident in herself now.

Anna – who has five-year-old son Jack with her estranged second husband Chris Pratt – said: "I was always a negative-A cup, so when I was 30, I was getting a divorce, I had just finished ‘House Bunny’, and I’d sold another movie, all of these new things were happening to me, so I got my breasts done. It was f***ing awesome. I never, ever thought I’d do something like that."

The ‘Scary Movie’ star was nervous to have the procedure done as she believed she was "betraying her gender" by altering her body, but is pleased with the results a decade on.

She added: "I always thought plastic surgery was caving in to ‘the man,’ you know? But it came down to a really simple thing: I wanted to fill out a bikini. What would that feel like? I’m still floored that I did it, because I am a staunch feminist. I kept thinking, Am I betraying my own gender by doing this?"

Since having surgery herself, Anna hopes being honest about the work she has had done will encourage other people to be "supportive of each other" when it comes to body altering procedures.

During an interview with Women’s Health magazine, she said: "I wish that we were more supportive of each other. I think that people should be able to do whatever they want, whether it’s getting braces, bleaching their hair, getting extensions, getting a boob job, getting vaginal surgery or getting a nose job."

Previously, Anna admitted to have temporary lip injections to plump up her pout, but stopped the treatment after her friends told her lips were becoming too large.

She said: "One day a bunch of my friends were like, ‘Hey, Anna, your lips are getting pretty big.’ At that point, I had to wean myself off the injections. I look back at the decision to get injections as a mistake."

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt try to communicate openly

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt try to "communicate openly".

The former couple may have gone their separate ways but they are desperate to keep things on friendly terms for the sake of their five-year-old son Jack.

She said: "What Chris and I try to do is to communicate openly. We reiterate that there aren’t rules to this. We have a lot of love and friendship, and our big goal is to protect Jack. I cherish my family, my close friends, my child – that makes the rest of it worth it."

And the 41-year-old actress hasn’t ruled out finding love again in the future as she needs that "sense of human connection and intimacy".

She added to the May issue of Women’s Health magazine: "I love love! Like all of us, I need a sense of human connection and intimacy.

"At the end of a workday I feel exposed and kind of raw. I want to be with someone I can confess to, and who can confess to me."

Meanwhile, Anna previously admitted she isn’t sure whether she still believes in marriage.

She explained: "I am a romantic. I believe in a partnership, I believe in companionship. I just don’t know if I believe in a ceremony of a wedding … You’d think that having successfully married parents would increase your odds [of making it work]. But how we’ve justified it is trying to make something work when we weren’t sort of picking up the clues. For me, it was sort of checking it off the list. If I get this part solved, I’ll do career and everything … I think I was also very intimidated by dating in LA, not feeling like I fit here with glamorous people, and I felt like the stoner dudes that I knew back home were just easier. Flashier guys here, I don’t know."

Chris – who has a five-year-old son Jack with his estranged wife Anna Faris – was recently on a hiatus from social media during their split, but in January, the Hollywood hunk shared a video of his tot enjoying life on the farm as he admitted missing spending time with him.

Anna Faris doesn’t know whether she believes in marriage

Anna Faris isn’t sure whether she still believes in marriage.

The 41-year-old actress has already tied the knot two times, to actors Ben Indra and Chris Pratt, and she’s admitted she isn’t certain if she still believes in the institution.

Anna – who has son Jack, five, with her estranged husband Chris – explained: "I am a romantic. I believe in a partnership, I believe in companionship. I just don’t know if I believe in a ceremony of a wedding."

The blonde beauty regularly discusses the issue of marriage with her brother.

But Anna has also admitted to harbouring lots of self-doubts about dating and marriage.

Speaking to Dax Shepard during his Armchair Expert podcast, she shared: "You’d think that having successfully married parents would increase your odds [of making it work].

"But how we’ve justified it is trying to make something work when we weren’t sort of picking up the clues.

"For me, it was sort of checking it off the list. If I get this part solved, I’ll do career and everything … I think I was also very intimidated by dating in LA, not feeling like I fit here with glamorous people, and I felt like the stoner dudes that I knew back home were just easier. Flashier guys here, I don’t know."

Anna and Chris, 38, announced their separation in August last year.

And the actress has admitted to being undecided about whether she’d be willing to tie the knot again, adding she’d "need to figure out what the purpose is" before she got married for a third time.

Elaborating on her concerns, Anna confessed: "Is it safety for your children? Is it convention? Is it so other people respect your relationship more? … For me, I’m just not quite sure where it fits."

Anna Faris loves embarrassing her son

Anna Faris has revealed she loves to "embarrass" her son.

The 41-year-old actress is mother to five-year-old Jack – whom she has with her estranged husband Chris Pratt – and has admitted she believes her son is getting to the age where he’s too cool for his mother, as he no longer wants to tell her he loves her when they’re in public.

Speaking to E! News, the ‘Emoji Movie’ star said: "I think I always embarrass my son … Six months ago we would do this little game where I would say, ‘I love you to the moon and back’ and he would say ‘I love you to Jupiter and back’ and I would say ‘I love you to Uranus and back!’

"Recently he’s stopped doing that. I found myself doing that in public to him and I could tell that he was getting embarrassed. He’s like, ‘Mom, chill!’"

It comes after Anna recently claimed the key to co-parenting with ‘Jurassic World’ star Chris – whom she split with in August last year before filing for divorce in December – is to shower their tot with love.

She said: "He’s surrounded by so much love. We constantly reinforce what a great kid he is.

"I think the key is surrounding him with a lot of joy and happiness, which he has a ton of.

"I think it’s those small moments in life, when your kid says something funny or like for me, I love what I do so I get a kick out of feeling like I nailed a joke well. And family and friends!"

The ‘Scary Movie’ actress now has the help of her new beau Michael Barrett when it comes to her son, as sources claim the cinematographer is "great" with Jack.

An insider said: "Michael is great with him and that’s all Anna cares about."

Michael – who met Anna on the set of new movie ‘Overboard’ – has also got the seal of approval from the blonde beauty’s friends.

The source added: "They are a great match. All of her friends love him. He’s so down-to-earth, stable and obsessed with Anna."

Anna Faris’ friends love new man

Anna Faris’ friends reportedly approve of her new relationship with Michael Barrett.

The ‘Scary Movie’ actress and her ex-husband Chris Pratt – who got married in July 2009 – filed for divorce in December after calling time on their relationship five months prior, and it’s said her new man has impressed her loved ones.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: "They are a great match. All of her friends love him. He’s so down-to-earth, stable and obsessed with Anna."

It’s also said that Anna’s new beau has got the all important seal of approval when it comes to her five-year-old son Jack, whom she has with ‘Jurassic World’ actor.

The insider added: "Michael is great with him and that’s all Anna cares about."

However, Anna’s split with Chris means the youngster spends a lot of time with his mother and the distance between him and the 38-year-old actor is getting to him.

At the end of last month, Chris uploaded a video taken previously of Jack enjoying life on the farm and admitted he was really "missing" his little boy.

Hecaptioned the video: "Livin’ that #farmlife Missing home, missing the farm, missing the boy, missing the island. So I’m sharing this video as a way to express my gratitude for all the blessings in my life and to entice any of you watching this who may feel unease or anxiety with the state of our world to just breathe, slow down, go outside, find something not man made and give it a good look. Kevin Smith thought heart attack was a reaction to bad milk

Kevin Smith initially thought the heart attack he suffered on Sunday (02.25.18) was a reaction to spoiled milk.

The 47-year-old filmmaker – whose father passed away from a heart attack – has spoken about his near-death experience on social media, posting a video on his Facebook account in which he admits he didn’t initially grasp the seriousness of the situation.

He shared: "I felt a little nauseous and then I tried to lay down on the floor.

"I wound up getting ill, like threw up, but mostly bile, so I just thought, like, you know, I got some bad milk."

The comedian – who was forced to cancel a planned show on Sunday – decided to call a doctor after he experienced trouble breathing.

He said: "There was a hurdle for each deep breath."

But Kevin didn’t recognise just how serious the situation was until paramedics called for morphine.

The ‘Clerks’ helmsman continued: "So I just thought about everything and thought about like, my parents and how they raised me, and my brother and my sister and my friends and my wife and my kid and this weird wonderful career that I’ve had for so long and stuff.

"And I was like content. Like it was weird, I don’t know how to say it – I didn’t want to die, don’t get me wrong – but I was like, if the ferry man comes tonight I got to pay him. Like, what a ride it’s been, what an incredible f***ing ride."

Following his initial announcement on social media, Kevin has been inundated with get-well-soon messages from a string of famous faces, including Hollywood star Chris Pratt.

The ‘Jurassic World’ actor admitted he doesn’t know Kevin "too good", but he still sent a kind message to reassure the filmmaker that he was in his thoughts.

Chris tweeted: "Kevin we don’t each other too good but I have loved you since Clerks and I’m praying my ass for you cause I believe in the healing power of prayer.

"Praying for you. I will continue to. You inspired me with Clerks when I was a senior HS. I’m tagging my Lb/rb football coach who showed me the movie cause he believed in me and knew I’d be inspired. (sic)"
