Beyoncé unveils music video for Countdown

R&B superstar Beyoncé has unveiled the new music video for her recent single Countdown, which is now streaming online, reports Billboard.

Directed by Adira Petty and Beyoncé herself, the frenetic video features a wide array of costume changes and uses old-fashioned camera tricks like stop-motion and split-screens to show off all the outfits. The singer has fun playing dress-up in everything from colored unitards to a sparkling gown.

The flashy choreography demonstrates that, baby bump or not, Beyoncé is still quite the dancer. From start to finish, the video never lets up the pace, moving from one visual to another at break-neck speed, a kaleidoscope of scenes paying homage to classic films like Flashdance, Funny Face and West Side Story.

The track ends on a close up of the singer, fluttering her eyelashes and then offering a sweet smile directly into the camera.

Countdown is the latest single off Beyoncé’s new album, 4, a follow-up to 2008’s I Am… Sasha Fierce.

New video for Lady Gaga-Tony Bennett duet

Pop star Lady Gaga and crooner Tony Bennett have unveiled the new music video for their recent duet, The Lady is a Tramp, from Bennett’s new album, Duets II, reports MTV.

A low concept video, the clip shows Gaga – with short, teal-colored locks – and Bennett on a recording studio set, and the two appear to be enjoying themselves immensely. Dressed in an old-fashioned black lace gown, Gaga belts out the vocals to the 1937 jazz classic, which was first written as a show tune for the Rodgers and Hart musical, Babes in Arms.

There’s a great deal of interplay with Bennett, and the two trade not only vocals, but laughter and grins. During the musical interlude, the two stars dance together in the small studio space, and Gaga steals Bennett’s handkerchief right out from his breast pocket.

This is the second music video spawned from Bennett’s hit album. The first clip was created for Body and Soul, his duet with Amy Winehouse – the last track the late singer ever recorded. Proceeds from the single went towards the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a new charity set up by the Winehouse family to help people struggling with addiction.

Drake debuts new music video

Canadian rapper Drake has launched the music video for his single, Headlines, which first dropped back in July, reports HitFix.

The debut single off his sophomore album, Take Care, Drake’s auto-tuned lyrics deal with the high points and the pitfalls of fame, set over a heavy snare beat and synth loop.

The video conceptualizes the idea set forth in the lyrics, showing Drake – donning sunglasses and smoking a cigar – in an elevator: literally riding it up and down with the positive and negative aspects of becoming a breakout success.

The clip also shows Drake hanging out with a group of friends, who toast the rap star in time with the lyrics. The visuals take Drake everywhere from a sports arena to a vacant, run-down graffiti-sprayed building.

The follow-up to Drake’s hugely successful debut album, Thank Me Later (2010), Take Care is expected to hit shelves on October 24.

"’Thank Me Later’ was a rushed album," the star told BBC 1 earlier this year. "That’s why my new album is called ‘Take Care’, because I get to take my time this go-round."

Lady Gaga unveils third fashion film for You & I

Pop star Lady Gaga has unveiled the newest in her series of black and white fashion films, Haus of U featuring Yuyi, promoting her new single, You and I, reports Hit Fix.

While the main You and I music video – following Gaga as she walks from New York City to Nebraska to win back a lost love – debuted on August 18, the pop star has continued to roll out accompanying ‘fashion films’ also set to the song.

"Have a surprise for LittleMonsters! Didn’t just shoot 1 You and I music video. 5 more fashion films to come by @inezandvinoodh," she wrote on Twitter earlier this month.

In the newest clip from directors Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin – the third of five – Gaga appears as her mermaid alter-ego Yuyi. With a black tail and gill prosthetics, Yuyi flops around and dances in a director’s chair, before ending up writhing around on the floor. Finally helpers appear to carry her out, perhaps to return her to the water, while others hold up a large blanket, shielding her from the curious eyes of onlookers.

The first video, Haus of U featuring Nymph, showed an innocent Gaga alone, dressed in a slip-dress and a long, blonde wig, while the second video, Haus of U featuring Bride, was a considerably darker film, referencing the Bride of Frankenstein.

Joe Jonas is Just in Love with romantic new video

Pop star Joe Jonas shows off his sexy side in the new music video for his single, Just in Love, off his upcoming album Fast Life, due out October 11.

Directed by Jaci Judelson, the retro-styled video follows Jonas and his on-screen girlfriend – portrayed by French model Angele – as they travel around Paris doing romantic things as a lovey-dovey couple.

The video is certainly a more mature look for the youthful pop star. Now 22, Jonas is best known for the squeaky-clean image he cultivated in the pop band The Jonas Brothers, which rose to fame with their own show on the Disney channel.

Decked out in designer clothing, the duo make out in Parisian cafes, take the metro, drive around in a cab and even lounge around together in a bubble bath. The video ends with Jonas leaving his femme fatale and walking off alone into a dark night.

"No, I’m not naked and she’s not naked," Jonas told E! Online about the bathtub scene. "But I think it’s a little bit, well, I’ll just say it’s a little bit older than anything I’ve done before."

Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga videos yanked in prank

Pop stars Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga were the victim of a prank that saw many of their popular music videos removed from video streaming site Vevo.

A YouTube user calling himself iLcreation contacted the site to file a copyright complaint, claiming he held the rights to Bieber and Gaga’s music video catalogues. Since YouTube errs on the side of copyright caution, company policy dictates that the videos be taken down until the copyright issues can be resolved.

This resulted in Bieber’s entire catalogue – including his hit single Baby which boasted a record-breaking six million views – and several Gaga videos being stripped from the website Sunday night (August 28).

"Someone is making false copyright claims against the Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga channels and YouTube has blocked access to the videos as a result," a Vevo rep told TMZ yesterday (August 29). "We are working with YouTube to resolve ASAP."

The videos are now back online.

Jay-Z and Kanye West music video debuts tonight

Just three days after their collaborative album, Watch the Throne, hit shelves, Jay-Z and Kanye West are gearing up to premiere the music video for hit single Otis, reports MTV.

The album’s first music video – which was directed by Spike Jonze – will debut tonight (August 11) at 8:56 p.m. on both MTV and BET, with an encore showing at 11 p.m. on MTV2.

Much like the hotly-anticipated album, little is known about the music video prior to its release. A few images have leaked, one featuring an American flag draped over a blue background, which matches the single’s cover art – designed by Givenchy creative director Ricardo Tisci, who also designed the cover for Watch the Throne. The second image shows the two rappers hanging out on set, in what looks like a golf cart.

The single – which samples the classic Otis Redding number Try a Little Tenderness – was released on July 20 and debuted at number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking the following week at number 12.

Maroon 5 releases Moves Like Jagger video

Singer Adam Levine and his colleague from the reality TV show The Voice Christina Aguilera have teamed up again for the video Moves Like Jagger posted online by American rock group Maroon 5 yesterday (August 9).

Already getting close to half a million views on YouTube, Aguilera comes in about two thirds through the video, which showcases a variety of Mick Jagger lookalikes attempt to copy the dancing moves of the legendary Rolling Stones frontman.

Levine said he was privileged that the band’s tribute had Jagger’s approval as the aging rocker provided Maroon 5 with access to concert footage to integrate into the video.

In an interview, Levine stated, "We were lucky enough to get Mick’s endorsement [for the video], as far as him giving us access to a bunch of different footage that’s so cool."

With this song and video, Maroon 5 will introduce a whole new generation of young people to a prominent figure in rock music.

Lady Gaga gets in touch with her masculinity

To promote her next video for the single You And I from her album Born This Way, theatrical pop performer Lady Gaga gets in touch with her masculine side by dressing up as male alter-ego Jo Calderone, reports Hitfix.

A year ago, Gaga suited up for a Vogues Hommes Japan fashion shoot styled by Nicola Formichetti – of meat dress fame – and shot by Nick Knight. The male model was listed as ‘Jo Calderone.’

The singer recently Tweeted new photos, apparently resurrecting Mr Calderone for You and I, writing "You will never find what you are looking for in love, if you don’t love yourself.”

The black and white photos are well-styled, and if one didn’t know, with the sideburns, stubble, and facial expression, one would be hard-pressed to identify the subject as female.

Filmed in Nebraska last month, the video for You And I may also depict another of Gaga’s alter egos, a mermaid Yuyi.

The singer is planning to launch the video in conjunction with her 1,000th Tweet, and she’s currently around 995.
