Björk rejoins Michel Gondry for Crystalline

Longtime creative cohorts Björk and Michel Gondry have released Crystalline, the groundbreaking first video from the Icelandic songstress’s ambitious new album/multimedia project, Biophilia.

The hallucinogenic video is a "visual collage of crystals and laser beams growing from the surface of a strange planet,” reports Pedestrian.

The famed French director has worked with Björk on numerous video projects in the past, including Human Behaviour in 1993 and Declare Independence in 2007.

Gondry has also created music videos for countless other artists and bands, including Radiohead, Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Beck, The White Stripes and Paul McCartney.

His best known films include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and The Green Hornet (2011).

Björk’s Biophilia will be launched on September 27. It marks her first album since the release of Volta in 2007 and the eighth time the duo have collaborated since she left The Sugarcubes in 1992.

Noel Gallagher’s new music video now online

Former Oasis member Noel Gallagher has unveiled the music video for the debut single, The Death of You and Me, off his upcoming solo album Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, reports Clash Music.

While the music video is now streaming online, the debut single will be available to purchase on August 21, with the full album following on October 17.

"My manager asked me who the High Flying Birds are. They aren’t anyone in particular," explained the singer-songwriter. "’Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ is me and whoever is around at the time of whatever it is that I’m doing, a loose collective kinda thing."

In light of Noel’s infamous and ongoing feud with his brother Liam, some suspected the new track was about their tumultuous relationship, but Noel insists this is not the case.

"The saying is that if you don’t leave a place it will be the death of you," he said to the Telegraph. "The song is about people escaping the surroundings they are in; it’s not about me and Liam."

Eminem’s new video focuses on domestic violence

Yesterday (June 27), award-winning rapper Eminem launched the music video for his latest single Space Bound, released last Friday from his seventh studio album Recovery, reports Music News.

The clip has Eminem singing about another failed relationship. Former porn actress Sasha Grey stars as his girlfriend, and eventually as his victim, after he strangles her and shoots himself.

The depressing, violent video, directed by Joseph Kahn (Without Me, Love the Way You Lie), features a graphic representation of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, showing a slow motion spray of blood as the bullet exits the rapper’s brain

Actress Sasha Grey explained her interpretation of the Space Bound video to MTV, saying that Eminem was trying to depict the reality of relationships, that even the strongest of relationships can result in domestic violence.

"Em[inem] simply becomes company for [his girlfriend], and she mistakenly takes advantage of that." She said that the video could be interpreted “in many ways.”

Perhaps one day Eminem will take a page from Stieg Larsson, and feature a woman who refuses to allow herself to be victimized.

Delving repeatedly into themes of domestic violence, the rapper is no stranger to controversy and the violent video may not be approved for broadcast on several TV channels.

Fan-sourced Michael Jackson video debuts tomorrow

Last March, Sony Music and the estate of Michael Jackson asked fans around the world to contribute to the video for Behind the Mask, a song from his posthumous album, Michael.

The global online casting call asked fans to shoot, upload and submit their own unique performances for inclusion in the video, eliciting a response from 103 countries. Tomorrow, on June 14th, the fan-sourced video for Behind the Mask will be unveiled on Facebook.

For the project, the social networking website was loaded with simple tools that defined different roles. Users selected an action like playing an instrument, singing a lyric, acting out a crowd reaction or demonstrating a classic MJ dance move. Contributors were able to shoot their move right on the website or with their web cam and upload the clip at the precise time it occurred in the video.

“This has been the most exciting and fun project I think I’ve ever been involved in,” said director Dennis Liu. “It’s been such a privilege, and was incredibly moving to see so many people from all over the world join as one, their creative voices, dance and musical talents bound together by Michael Jackson’s spirit and incomparable artistry.

“We received submissions from the Sahara Desert to Venice Beach, from mountaintops to suburban backyards, with some shots featuring well over one hundred people apiece. All who participated delivered brilliantly.”

Submissions were carefully edited down by the director to the best 1600 submissions (including 50 kids and 36 animals).

Rihanna releases sexy new music video

R&B singer Rihanna has released a sexy new music video for her ballad California King Bed, the sixth official single off her latest album, Loud, reports MTV.

The video – which was shot in California and directed by Anthony Mandler – opens on the lingerie-clad singer lying on her back in an open field, before the action moves to an open-air bedroom. There, Rihanna snuggles into the arms of a shirtless lover, until, over the course of the song, distance grows between the two.

The video begins in color but switches to black-and-white about halfway through, before finally returning to color as the clip closes out on Rihanna back in the same field as she started.

The new single was chosen with help from her fans. In February, the singer polled her Twitter audience for suggestions.

"Question existing: I’m shootin a new vid in a cpl wks, I just need u to tell me, which song should I shoot? What is my next single?" she wrote, a week before announcing California King Bed as the victor.

Lady Gaga’s Judas music video now online

Lady Gaga’s newest music video, Judas, has finally made its debut – a highly-stylized and modernized retelling of the biblical story of betrayal, reports MTV.

A five-minute version of the video is now streaming online and can be accessed through Gaga’s official website. A seven-minute uncut version of the video premiered during E! News on Thursday night (May 5).

Both versions of the clip are filled with religious symbolism and allegory, and depict the biblical story of Jesus Christ’s betrayal by Judas Iscariot – portrayed here by actor Norman Raedus.

According to Gaga, the video is "a motorcycle Fellini movie, where the apostles are revolutionaries in a modern-day Jerusalem."

As Mary Magdalene, Gaga rides along with a motorcycle gang re-imagining of Christ and his apostles. When they come to a stop at an "Electric Chapel", Mary Magdalene tries to warn Christ about the impending betrayal, at which point everyone breaks into choreographed dance.

"The video, in essence, suggests that forgiveness and betrayal are hand in hand," explains Gaga. "The video puts destiny above all things and postures that the mistakes in your life are in fact not mistakes at all, they are just part of your overarching potential and your destiny."
