NFL coaching legend John Madden becomes face of ‘Madden 23’

EA Sports Madden NFL 23 will use the late NFL coaching legend and commentator John Madden as the face of the cover.

EA Sports announced that Madden, who passed in December 2021 at the age of 85, will appear on all three editions of Madden NFL 23, and for the first time since his Madden NFL 2000 when he first graced the cover. Madden’s appearance on the cover will also pay homage to the 34 years of Madden games celebrated on ‘Madden Day’ every June 1st.

EA also says a full reveal of the cover will be shown on June 2nd.

The first John Madden Football video game was released on June 1, 1988, and has since then been one of the longest-running video game series of all time. The All Madden Edition cover is based on the same image that was used in the original game.

As for the cover itself, EA Sports has added a message on the cover saying, “Thanks, coach,” created by cover artist Chuck Styles to commemorate a coach “who has influenced generations of football fans through his passion for football and unmistakable energy,” says Styles. The image shows him celebrating after winning the Super Bowl with the 1977 Oakland Raiders.

EA Sports also dedicated a ceremony for John Madden Field at their global headquarters in Redwood City, California in honour of his impact on the company.

Madden NFL 23 still has no release date but according to ESPN will launch sometime in August. EA Sports also has more information on Madden Day’ on their website.

Joe Manganiello is ‘like a unicorn’

Joe Manganiello is ”like a unicorn in the world of actors”.

The 37-year-old actor insists that, unlike many other famous faces in Hollywood, he has honed his enviable physique through sheer hard work.

He told Men’s Health magazine: ”A lot of the actors who are on the cover of lifestyle magazines look like they’ve had their waistline airbrushed or they’re wearing winter clothes or whatever.

”I see them and think, ‘That guy doesn’t work out, I know that guy and he smokes two packs of cigarettes a day and is a complete drunk on the weekends. Now he’s putting out an illusion on the cover of a glossy magazine.’ ”

Joe, who plays Alcide in ‘True Blood’, added: ”It’s absurd to me. I’m athletic and I’m healthy. I’m like a unicorn in the world of actors.”

The hunky star – who is rumored to be dating ‘Modern Family’ actress Sofia Vergara – explained that one of his biggest motivations to work out was having to spend much of stripper movie ‘Magic Mike’ without a shirt.

He said: ”When you’re shirtless every day there’s no let up. So we spent a fortnight doing thousands of push-ups, thousands of curls, thousands of lat raises.”
