Dune will stream on PVOD services on December 3

Science fiction film Dune will be available on PVOD on December 3rd and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD on January 11th in the United States.

It’s more than likely that the movie will also release on PVOD in Canada on the same date. While Dune was available on HBO Max in the U.S., given it’s been 31 days since its theatrical run, the critically acclaimed movie has since been pulled from the service.

Like other Warner Media HBO Max films, Dune will likely make its way to Bell’s Crave streaming service after its PVOD window expires.

The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya Coleman and more.

Back in early November, TorrentFreak reported that Dune was the most pirated movie in the world. That said, the film still managed to earn over $354 million USD (about $449 million CAD). The film also played at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival back in September.

If that applies to you, then the answer to your Crave problems might be KitKat! At least, that’s what Bell seems to have in mind.

The company has launched a new sponsored ‘KitKat Collection’ on Crave that features more than a dozen comedy titles. “Satisfy your entertainment cravings with The KitKat Comedy Collection,” writes Bell. “An assortment of movies and tv shows curated by Crave. Have a well-deserved break and a laugh after work, brought to you by KitKat.”

The assortment of content includes the following 15 comedy shows and movies:

  • Adorableness
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • Corner Gas
  • Corner Gas Animated
  • Daria
  • Flight of the Conchords
  • Frasier
  • The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
  • The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion
  • Friends
  • Friends: The Reunion
  • Jann
  • Star Trek: Lower Decks
  • Superintelligence
  • Wellington Paranormal

Amusingly, there’s a 16th Crave “title” listed in the collection, “The KitKat Comedy Collection,” which is simply a 15-second ad for KitKat and Crave. In other words, it’s a perfect companion to classics like The Fresh PrinceFriends and Frasier.

The only thing that could make Will Smith and James Avery’s iconic emotional scene from “Papa’s Got a Brand New Excuse” better, after all, is a KitKat.

Dune continues to be the internet’s most pirated movie

If you pirated Dune recently, it looks like you aren’t alone.

While the sand-filled film continues to top the box office, it’s also dominating the piracy charts. The Warner Bros./Legendary movie production based on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel and directed by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve is the most pirated movie in the world for the second week in a row, according to TorrentFreak.

Across HBO Max (which isn’t available in Canada) and its theatrical release, Dune has earned $292 million USD (about $361 million CAD) so far. In Canada, specifically, it remains unclear when Dune will make its way to Bell-owned Crave. Last year, Warner Bros. Canada confirmed that its 2021 films will follow a traditional release schedule that includes a theatrical-first run, followed by sale/rental options, a physical release and, finally, — at least in Canada — exclusive streaming on Crave.

With this in mind, it will probably be several months before Dune hits Crave, and when it does, it more than likely won’t be available in 4K on all devices and will also stream in a less than stellar bitrate.

In the United States, Dune was released simultaneously in theatres and HBO Max on October 22nd.

Amusingly, the poorly-received Dune (1984) has hit Crave’s most-watched movies chart. In other Crave-related news, the streaming service recently revamped its streaming subscription options to remove the basic $9.99 tier.

In its place is a $9.99 mobile-only option that offers HBO/Crave content and a more expensive $19.99 per month tier that features the same content but that works on more than just mobile.
