Cowboys have requirement for Michael Gallup in 2023

Even though the Dallas Cowboys made the call to bring aboard wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans to pair along with CeeDee Lamb as weapons for quarterback Dak Prescott, they still have big plans for Michael Gallup in 2023.

Gallup, whom the Cowboys selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, tore his ACL and appeared in only nine games during the 2021 season. Last year, he was limited to just 39 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns.

However, according to The Dallas Morning News, head coach Mike McCarthy has told Gallup that he’ll be more heavily featured in the offensive attack this season.

“I think Michael Gallup has a great chance to take the next step,” team executive vice president Stephen Jones said during the NFL Scouting Combine in February. “Know what he can do. Coming off a major ACL, I think it’s pretty typical, you know, that guys improve, [and] from the first year to the second year is usually the jump. And I fully expect Michael to do that, and then I think we’ve got a good competitive group after that. Can we look at maybe improving it? Absolutely.”

Gallup racked up 424 receiving yards along with four touchdowns on 39 catches during the 2022 NFL season. He’s averaged a total of 53 receptions for 819 yards and four touchdowns in his four seasons.

What kind of season are you expecting from Gallup for the Cowboys in 2023?

Micah Parsons brutalizes ‘Idiot’ Saquon Barkley detractor!

If you have something bad to say about New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Micah Parsons has no interest in hearing it.

The popular Dallas Cowboys pass rusher clapped back at a Twitter user who suggested that Barkley was slowing down in 2022, and that the Giants need to pay him big time. Take a look:

“I mean yeah that’s what happens when you the best players on your team you idiot!! The scheme on Monday morning is we well not let SAQUON BARKLEY BEAT Us!! People just think we be out here playing free for all!!” Parson wrote in a tweet. “Pay him!”

It wasn’t long ago that former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi stated on his “GM Shuffle” podcast that the Giants were suffering from a “disease of me”.

“Everybody in that locker room knows the reason they won wasn’t because of Daniel Jones. He had something to do with it, but he didn’t carry the team. The players know this. You can’t con the players,” Lombardi said.

“Chronic feeling of underappreciation. Saquon feels underappreciation. Daniel doesn’t, but Saquon does. Dexter does. This is what happens. And they didn’t win enough, and they’re not good enough as a team to be able to go through this. They didn’t win a championship. They won nine frickin’ games and beat a s—-y Minnesota team and got their ass kicked. They’re not good enough to have the disease of me.”

The Giants offseason program begins on Monday, and reports surfaced earlier in the week that Barkley didn’t plan on inking his franchise tender offer.

Ezekiel Elliott releases new workout video

When will Ezekiel Elliott be able to find a new NFL home?

He was let go by the Dallas Cowboys midway through last month, bringing an end to an era that saw him etch his name into the team record books and become one of the most popular players in recent memory. But after he struggled and posted career low numbers last season, the choice was made to move on from him rather than try and get him to agree to a lower contract.

Elliott’s alleged “wish list” of the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals haven’t worked out the way that he was hoping, as all three have not shown any interest in bringing him aboard. But still, he’s not giving up hope.

Elliott recently posted a workout video of his as an enticing way to garner interest for the 2023 NFL season, given that he’s shown no indication of calling it quits on his career. Take a look for yourself at how the now-former Cowboys running back is staying in shape this offseason:

Real reasoning behind Ezekiel Elliott release revealed

The Dallas Cowboys made the decision last month to cut ties with former 1st round draft pick Ezekiel Elliott, who had suited up for them since being selected from Ohio State University in the 2016 NFL Draft. One of the most popular players on the roster amongst his teammates and fans, Elliott experienced a career low in statistics in 2022.

With the emergence of Tony Pollard, Elliott was made expendable. And rather than “insult” him by offering him a lower amount of compensation, the team simply elected to move on by cutting him.

Simply put, it was a matter of respect.

“When you’ve got players and we’ve had them over the years, whether it’s Emmitt Smith, whether it’s a DeMarcus Ware … these type of players you’ve got such respect for everything that they’ve done for your organization,” Jones reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix. “The last thing we want to do is do anything that would be insulting to a player to a great player, like Zeke, who was one of the best players to ever put on a Cowboys uniform.

“(He was a) great competitor and (we’re) wishing nothing but the best if it turns out he didn’t return,” Stephen said. “But we never rule anything out around here. But yeah, there are sensitivities when you get into making offers.”

We’ll definitely miss having Elliott with the Cowboys. As of right now, however, he’s yet to find another NFL home.

Flight delay kept Cooper Rush with Cowboys!

The Dallas Cowboys made the call to re-sign quarterback Cooper Rush to a two year contract worth up to $6 million with the first year and a signing bonus fully guaranteed in the deal.

And as fate would have it, it turned out to be a flight delay that actually went a long way towards Rush remaining with the Cowboys! Before agreeing to re-sign with Dallas, Rush was about to fly to Las Vegas to meet with the Raiders, and also had interest from the Cincinnati Bengals.

“I think one guy noticed me,” Rush said of his time at the airport. “I don’t know if anybody else did.”

However, inclement weather delayed his flight. And while he was waiting, an offer came through from the Cowboys that he decided to accept.

“Just the timing of it, the Cowboys came in with a good deal,” Rush said. “As weird as it is, it was around the same time I was kind of waiting to leave.”

It was Rush who was summoned into service for the Cowboys last season after Prescott suffered a broken thumb. He would finish the season completing 84-of-162 passing attempts for a total of 1,051 yards and five touchdowns, while also going 4-1 in his time as starter.

“It’s hard just as a competitor, but I finally got to look back and it felt like six years ago, the beginning of the season,” he said. “But it’s fun to look back, see what we did, look at the whole picture of the season, see how much it helped into those early games, as well as the defense picking us up. When you’ve waited that long and finally got to do it over an extended period of time, not just one game, and what you learn from being that guy for five weeks, it’s different than just one game and stop. Now it’s getting the rhythm of being the starter, what you learn, what you didn’t do well. I definitely wanted to reflect on that.”

Mel Kiper: Cowboys to take TE in 2023 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys have the 26th overall selection in the upcoming National Football League Draft that officially kicks off later this month from Kansas City.

And if this report from NFL analyst Mel Kiper is any indication, Cowboys fans had better be preparing themselves to see their team select a tight end with their 1st round pick. According to Kiper, the Cowboys will be taking Notre Dame Fighting Irish tight end Michael Mayer with the 26th selection in order to provide further insulation for quarterback Dak Prescott.

Take a look at his reasoning in his recently released mock draft:

Dalton Schultz left in free agency, and the Cowboys never replaced him. Let’s get Dak Prescott a talented safety valve here. Mayer is the best all-around tight end in this class; he’s not afraid to latch on to defenders and block. Don’t discount his receiving upside, either. He had 180 catches for 2,099 yards and 18 scores in three college seasons. He can be an outlet on crossers and hooks, and he’ll pick up first downs after the catch. Dallas also has scouted the class’ best wide receivers, so keep an eye out if one of the top guys drops.”

Meanwhile, moving on to the 2nd round, Kiper has predicted that the Cowboys will be taking help at the wide receiver position by selecting Jonathan Mingo of Ole Miss:

“I thought about a replacement for Ezekiel Elliott here, but Mingo would make an impact on the Dallas depth chart. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound receiver has a great mix of size and speed. He averaged 16.9 yards per reception last season, and he was mostly running short routes. He can break tackles once he gets the ball. He has experience playing both outside and in the slot. This makes two pass-catchers for the Cowboys, and you know Dak Prescott would be thrilled.”

Report: Cowboys zeroing in on Derrick Henry

Reports have surfaced that the Dallas Cowboys could have serious interest in Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, especially combined with having released fan favorite and former 1st round draft selection Ezekiel Elliott earlier this year.

A key reinforcement at the running back position would certainly make sense for the Cowboys, considering the fact that Tony Pollard is continuing his offseason recovery from a devastating leg injury.

According to Bill Barnwell of ESPN, the health of Pollard along with his uncertain availability for when his team gathers for training camp later this summer could very well entice them to target a veteran like Henry.

“The Cowboys could look toward a market that still includes Leonard Fournette, Latavius Murray and Kareem Hunt unsigned. There’s also a chance expensive veterans such as Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook could be released after the draft,” writes Barnwell. “Dallas could add a rookie in April’s draft, but Pollard’s uncertain status for Week 1 leads me to believe the team would probably prefer to have a more experienced back on the roster,” he continued.

Additionally, according to USA Today Sports, the Cowboys could plan on checking on his availability from the Titans later this month.

Over the course of his career, Henry has racked up 8,335 yards and 78 touchdowns. Just how great would he look trading the colors of the Titans to come aboard to America’s Team and the most iconic look in the National Football League?

Dallas Cowboys give Brandin Cooks a “lifeline”

The Dallas Cowboys have a brand new wide receiver, having brought aboard Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans in exchange for draft picks. The move came not long after the Cowboys made the call to part ways with running back Ezekiel Elliott, so naturally, more offensive help was needed.

He’ll be teaming up with CeeDee Lamb to give quarterback Dak Prescott some additional offensive weapons, and according to NBC Sports’ Mike Florio, this is exactly what Cooks needed in his career after having prior suited up for the hapless and struggling Texans.

“Cooks is coming in with the right attitude, and he’s just got to be thrilled to go from one of the worst teams in the NFL over the last couple of years to a team that’s in a position to contend, he’s got to be happy,” Florio said.

“He’s been thrown a lifeline, you don’t even have to leave the state, and he’s still paying zero percent income tax.”

And judging by the comments that Cooks made, he’s thrilled to be a part of the Cowboys family.

“I’ve really never gotten upset because that means someone out there wants me to be a part of their group,” Cooks said. “I think I’m just fortunate enough to be able to play with so many great organizations and make an impact in this league everywhere I’ve been. It excites me. I think it’s special because that means I didn’t get to free agency, so people jumping the gun to get me before I get there. So, that’s the way I look at it. I look at it in a positive light.”

Report: Ezekiel Elliott angry over lack of interest!

The Dallas Cowboys decided to part ways with 2016 1st round draft pick Ezekiel Elliott earlier this month after the popular running back posted career low numbers in 2022 of only 876 yards and 12 total touchdowns. While the move was met with varying reactions from the Cowboys fan base, quarterback Dak Prescott and owner/general manager Jerry Jones didn’t make any secret that it was a difficult decision.

Elliott himself then reportedly came up with a “wish list” of three potential teams that he’d like to play for that included both the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles, though both teams didn’t reciprocate the interest. On Elliott’s list was also the New York Jets, though they sent a subtle message that they were happy with their running back unit as it currently stands.

And we can’t blame Elliott for being a bit frustrated right now with the lack of interest that he’s receiving from other NFL teams.

It’s hard to envision someone not taking a waiver on the former 1st round draft pick. However, it sounds as though Elliott may have to wait until closer to training camp when injuries begin to pile up. Where do you realistically envision him signing for the 2023 NFL season, and for what kind of financial compensation?

Former Cowboys DE Aldon Smith sentenced to jail

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Aldon Smith will be spending the next year in jail after he plead no contest to a felony DUI charge stemming from a 2021 incident in Redwood City, California. He’s also been given five years of supervised prohibition.

The incident, which took place in December of 2021, occurred when Smith allegedly rear-ended a truck parked on a freeway off-ramp. Authorities say they discovered several empty alcohol bottles in Smith’s vehicles as well as marijuana.

This was only the latest in a string of legal troubles for Smith, who also had DUI arrests in 2012 and 2019.

He was selected with the 7th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and also spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks along with the Cowboys in 2020. He racked up 228 total tackles, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
