Netflix offers first looks at 2023 slate, including new David Fincher and Zack Snyder movies

Netflix has released a new sizzle reel containing first looks at a variety of its big 2023 original movies.

Some of the most notable titles include the Adam Sandler-Jennifer Aniston comedy Murder Mystery 2 (March 31st), the Chris Hemsworth-led action flick Extraction 2 (June 16th), the David Fincher thriller The Killer (November 10th) and Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic Rebel Moon (December 22nd).

See below for the full video:

It’s become customary for Netflix to share these film previews early in the year, but this one takes on added significance amid a slump in business for the streamer. In the past year, the company reported multiple quarterly losses and cancelled a slew of shows, which hasn’t exactly instilled consumers with optimism.

To help recoup costs, the streamer also launched a low-cost ad-supported tier in November while preparing a password sharing paywall for early this year. The latter move has been met with significant criticism, especially when it had previously made tweets like “love is sharing a password.” A specific rollout date for the password sharing paywall has not yet been confirmed.

He said: "I can’t remember a day since I got out of college when I wasn’t boozing or had a spliff, or something. Something. And you realise that a lot of it is, um –cigarettes, you know, pacifiers. And I’m running from feelings.

"I’m really, really happy to be done with all of that. I mean I stopped everything except boozing when I started my family. But even this last year, you know — things I wasn’t dealing with.

"I was boozing too much. It’s just become a problem."

Sigourney Weaver will receive the 2016 Donostia Award at the 64th San Sebastian Festival.

The 66-year-old actress – who has recently been seen and heard in a couple of high-profile cameos in ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Finding Dory’ – will accept the prestigious prize for her career achievements when the event takes place between September 18 and September 26 at the Basque resort city.

A statement released read: "The festival’s most important honorary award acknowledges the career of the North American actress whose name has presided over some of the biggest productions in the last few decades, under the direction of movie makers such as Sir Ridley Scott, Peter Weir, James Cameron, Mike Nichols, Roman Polanski, Ang Lee and David Fincher."

Sigourney’s most famous role has been as heroine Ellen Ripley in the ‘Alien’ franchise – a part she first played in Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic and is reprising for a fifth time in Neill Blomkamp’s take on the killer Xenomorph extra-terrestrial species.

The festival will also be showing an out-of-competition screening of Sigourney’s latest movie ‘A Monster Calls’ and she will receive the honor at the showing.

‘A Monster Calls’ is due for release on October 21 this year, and the Spanish/British fantasy drama film directed by J. A. Bayona is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Patrick Ness.

Sigourney stars in the film as the grandmother of a little boy, Conor, who encounters a monster, played by Liam Neeson, 64, who is made of leaves and sticks in a human shape that tells him stories.

Trent Reznor unveils snippet of Dragon Tattoo soundtrack

Musician Trent Reznor has unveiled a seven-minute snippet of the new score he’s created for the upcoming film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

"It begins…" Reznor wrote on Twitter, linking to the film’s official website. Over a large black and white image of the two leads – Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander – Reznor’s haunting instrumental leads visitors into the film’s dark world of intrigue.

The clip is now streaming through SoundCloud as well, allowing listeners to navigate the seven-minute track.

Based on the Stieg Larsson novel of the same name, the film is the second adaptation of the book, following the 2009 Swedish-language film. Directed by David Fincher, the American adaptation is due to be released on December 21.

Reznor, best known as frontman of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, got his start scoring movie soundtracks with the 2010 drama The Social Network, working with English musician Atticus Rose. The duo won a Golden Globe for best original score.

Trent Reznor to contribute to Millenium score

Former Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and his musical collaborator Atticus Ross, who teamed up to write the score for The Social Network, will be working once again with director David Fincher on his next film, the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on the bestselling Millenium trilogy of books by Swedish author Steig Larsson.

The author has attained an almost mythical status since he died just after submitting his manuscripts, never knowing about the worldwide popularity of his work.

The first collaboration between Reznor, Ross and Fincher was both a critical and commercial success, since The Social Network is up for multiple nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards, including best original soundtrack for Reznor and Ross.

The American adaptation of the Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is slated for theatrical release at the end of 2011. The film will star Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer and Stellan Skarsgård.

David Fincher to Direct Black Hole

According to Variety, Black Hole will not be directed by Alexandre Aja, as initially reported.

Black Hole was inspired by the work of Charles Burns, who wrote and illustrated the 12-issue series, which then became a graphic novel.  Screenwriters Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman are working on the adaptation of the book, in which a sexually transmitted "bug" is passed from teenager to teenager.

David Fincher has directed several projects for Paramount Pictures.  He recently finished work on the drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.  He also directed the 2007 suspense film Zodiac, which earned $75 million at the box office.  Other projects currently in development include Torso and the action film The Killer.
