Cowboys sound off on reported Derrick Henry rumors

So, what’s happening with Derrick Henry?

There have been multiple rumors swirling that the Tennessee Titans running back has drawn interest from the Dallas Cowboys, while there was also a report that indicated that he’d be instead taking his talents to the Philadelphia Eagles by former NFL player Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.

Right now, it looks as though there’s no truth to that rumor, as a team source explained that “there’s nothing there”. As far as his reported move to Philadelphia, it doesn’t appear that is happening right now either – at least, not yet.

According to Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated:

“For the record, with the help of one of our Philly experts who describes that as being “the least-Eagles-y thing ever,” we can tell you that as we write this, Henry to the Eagles is not a done deal. And also not done: The “Derrick to Dallas” speculation.”

Last season, Henry racked up 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Cowboys have already made significant moves this offseason at the RB position, releasing Ezekiel Elliott while also franchise tagging Tony Pollard.

Report: Derrick Henry spurns Cowboys, will join division rival

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that the Dallas Cowboys could have serious interest in Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, especially combined with having released fan favorite and former 1st round draft selection Ezekiel Elliott earlier this year. A key reinforcement at the running back position would certainly make sense for the Cowboys, considering the fact that Tony Pollard is continuing his offseason recovery from a devastating leg injury.

However, the dreams that Cowboys fans had of Henry suiting up for them will apparently go unfulfilled. In fact, it now appears as though Henry will be joining a bitter Cowboys divisional rival.

Philly Sports Network’s Bryan Cameron had this to say on the “trail of breadcrumbs”, especially after the massive extension for QB Jalen Hurts:

“Could there be truth to this rumor? Absolutely,” he wrote of Henry joining the Eagles. “With many teams cutting players and moving on from their big contracts. It would be in the Eagles’ best interest to make a move like this to help secure their offense. While they don’t need a big-name running back in the backfield, the fact of the matter is that they need to win now more than ever after extending Jalen Hurts.”

Additionally, there’s this:

Last season, Henry racked up 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Report: Cowboys zeroing in on Derrick Henry

Reports have surfaced that the Dallas Cowboys could have serious interest in Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, especially combined with having released fan favorite and former 1st round draft selection Ezekiel Elliott earlier this year.

A key reinforcement at the running back position would certainly make sense for the Cowboys, considering the fact that Tony Pollard is continuing his offseason recovery from a devastating leg injury.

According to Bill Barnwell of ESPN, the health of Pollard along with his uncertain availability for when his team gathers for training camp later this summer could very well entice them to target a veteran like Henry.

“The Cowboys could look toward a market that still includes Leonard Fournette, Latavius Murray and Kareem Hunt unsigned. There’s also a chance expensive veterans such as Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook could be released after the draft,” writes Barnwell. “Dallas could add a rookie in April’s draft, but Pollard’s uncertain status for Week 1 leads me to believe the team would probably prefer to have a more experienced back on the roster,” he continued.

Additionally, according to USA Today Sports, the Cowboys could plan on checking on his availability from the Titans later this month.

Over the course of his career, Henry has racked up 8,335 yards and 78 touchdowns. Just how great would he look trading the colors of the Titans to come aboard to America’s Team and the most iconic look in the National Football League?

Cowboys projected to land RB Derrick Henry!

The Dallas Cowboys have already made the call to part ways with running back Ezekiel Elliott, meaning that Tony Pollard is now their main offensive weapon at the position. But that doesn’t mean that they’re not going to be bringing aboard additional reinforcements.

And according to a recently released report, the Cowboys could be in prime position to land a running back who has racked up better than 1,500 yards in three of his last four NFL seasons. Per ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry could potentially soon be wearing the colors of the Cowboys.

“There’s also a chance expensive veterans such as Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook could be released after the draft,” Barnwell wrote on March 30, 2023. “Dallas could add a rookie in April’s draft, but Pollard’s uncertain status for Week 1 leads me to believe the team would probably prefer to have a more experienced back on the roster.”

Over the course of his career, Henry has racked up a total of 8,335 total yards and 78 touchdowns. How would you like to see him come to the Cowboys?
