Star Wars prequel series Andor streams August 31 on Disney+

Along with announcing the return date of The Mandalorian during its Star Wars Celebration, Disney also offered a peek at Andor ahead of its August 31st Disney+ debut.

Andor, starring Diego Luna, sees the actor reprising his role as Cassian Andor. The series takes place five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

While the trailer Disney dropped is brief (see it above), it shows off a far darker look at the world of Star Wars than we’ve seen in the past.

Andor was created by Tony Gilroy, the writer of the Bourne movie series and Rogue One co-writer, which explains the trailer’s muted tones and tense pacing. The first season of Andor will feature 12 episodes, with the second season starting filming this November.

During its Star Wars Celebration, Disney also confirmed that Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson, will release in 2023, and revealed yet another live-action Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew. Starring Jude Law, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is focused on a group of children that “get lost in the Star Wars universe.” The TV show is helmed by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and writer Christopher Ford.

Finally, during its presentation, Disney confirmed that The Mandalorian Season 3 will stream in February.

Michael Douglas heard angels during near-death experience

Michael Douglas has claimed he heard angels singing when he almost drowned as a student.

The 73-year-old actor – who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones – was swimming in the ocean when he was studying at the University of California when he got into serious trouble in the water and almost died.

Luckily, the Hollywood legend was rescued but says he saw a "white light" as he "faced death" and he could hear heavenly voices around him.

Speaking to the USA Today newspaper about the experience, he recalled: "I did hear angels singing, saw a white light and then a relaxation came over me as I faced death."

Douglas made the confession whilst discussing his latest movie ‘Flatliners’ – which follows on from the cult 1990 horror movie of the same name about a group of medical students who undertake clandestine experiments to produce near death experiences resulting in terrifying consequences for all.

Although he has had his own near-death experience, Douglas doesn’t believe there is an after-life, as described by the world’s main religions and instead believes the phenomenon he witnessed is a natural part of the process of dying.

He said: "I think we have a mechanism in our brain that takes over and makes it easier to accept the inevitable during the process of dying."

Douglas – who has beaten tongue cancer – produced the new remake, which stars Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev and Diego Luna, and sees Kiefer Sutherland reprise his role as Nelson Wright from the original film.

Diego Luna nearly missed casting call from Rogue One director

Diego Luna nearly missed a casting call for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

The 36-year-old actor has confessed he contemplated screening a call from the movie’s director Gareth Edwards to offer him the role of Captain Cassian Andor as he thought it would just be a "drunken cousin" calling him.

He said: "I saw this British number calling me at 2 a.m., and I have family in England, so I thought it was, like, a drunken cousin from a bar or something.

"I ran over and saw that it was [director] Gareth Edwards wanting to give me some news! I just jumped around like crazy – it was quite a special day. [Edwards] said, ‘Okay, welcome to Star Wars.’"

However, his excitement was short lived as he was forced to keep it a secret for a long time including from his children – Fiona, six, and Jerónimo, eight.

He quipped to People magazine: "I didn’t trust my children to keep the secret because, well, they’re kids! I told them we were spending the summer in England, but I couldn’t tell them why for quite a long time."

Meanwhile, Diego previously compared starring in the science fiction franchise to being in love.

Asked if he ever thought he would star in such a big movie, he said: "No, never. The best things that have come to me in life have been a surprise. I think it’s because I have kept working, even in something else, and not because of waiting for it. I just think that when you focus your energy in the right direction things start to work out and life surprises you in a positive way. Maybe I’m being too romantic, but it’s impossible to travel somewhere looking to fall in love with someone. Instead, when you stop looking for it, it comes to you and soon you are in love. If I didn’t have a movie right now I would be very happy doing theatre."
