Save over 50 percent on Starlink hardware right now

For a limited time, Canadians can get SpaceX’s Starlink hardware for half price.

According to a notice on the Starlink website and in an email from the company, Canadians can save over 50 percent on their Starlink Kit, getting it for $350 instead of the regular $759.

Screenshot of the Starlink discount

Screenshot of Starlink’s hardware discount for Canadians.

The email notes that the offer is valid for both Residential and Roam services but isn’t available for waitlisted areas.

The standard Starlink Kit includes the rectangular antenna and base, as well as cables and a router. You can learn more about the hardware here.

Getting started with Starlink is pretty expensive in Canada, but this offer goes a long way to reduce that cost. Typically, customers need to pay $759 for hardware as well as $140 for the first month of service, a $129 deposit, and shipping, handling, and taxes.

You can learn more on the Starlink website.

Koodo, Virgin offer $10/mo discount for 12 months for Lunar New Year

Koodo and Virgin Plus have joined Fido in offering a $10/mo discount for 12 months on select plans to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Rogers flanker brand Fido first rolled out the discount on January 13th, and the other providers added similar discounts over the weekend.

Telus flanker brand Koodo will apply the $10/mo credit on plans $55/mo or higher. Koodo’s website also advertises that it will waive the $50 connection fee, although it’s worth noting that Koodo (as well as most other wireless providers in Canada) waive the connection fee for online orders already.

Koodo’s Lunar New Year plans as of January 16th, 2023.

Koodo plans are as follows:

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45/mo with the discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50/mo with the discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55/mo with the discount)

It’s worth noting that Koodo only offers the discount on bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) plans, so if you want to get a phone, you can’t benefit from the deal.

Virgin’s Lunar New Year plans as of January 16th, 2023.

As for Bell flanker brand Virgin Plus, it also offers the $10/mo credit for 12 months on $55/mo+ plans:

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45/mo with the discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50/mo with the discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55/mo with the discount)

Likewise, Virgin only offers the discounted price for BYOP plans, and it also specifies on its website that the discounted plans are available for “new activations only.”

You can check out Koodo’s plans here, Virgin’s plans here, or learn more about the Fido offer here.

Fido discounts select plans by $10/mo for Lunar New Year

Rogers flanker brand Fido is offering a $10/mo discount for 12 months on select plans for Lunar New Year.

The offer is available through a promo code, although it was auto-applied when I loaded up Fido’s plan page. The code applies the discount to the following plans:

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45/mo after discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50/mo after discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55/mo after discount)

While not quite as good as some of the offers available during Black Friday and Boxing Week, $10 off each month is better than nothing.

At the time of writing, Koodo and Virgin Plus had not rolled out a similar discount.

You can view Fido’s plans here.

Google discounts Pixel 6a by $100, now available for $499

Google’s excellent mid-range Pixel 6a got its first official discount in the Canadian Google Store. The smartphone is now available for $499, a $100 discount.

This price drop arguably makes the Pixel 6a even better value for those who want to Pixel experience, but don’t necessarily want to fork out the money for a Pixel 7 or 7 Pro. The most significant drawbacks to the 6a include that it runs on the Tensor chip (the 7 series sport the newer Tensor G2) and that it sports worse camera hardware (12-megapixel main sensor vs. the 50-megapixel sensor in the 7 series).

Pixel 6a discount on the Google Store

Despite that, the Pixel 6a camera still puts out some impressive shots thanks to Google’s image processing software, and the performance bump for Tensor G2 isn’t huge (although not negligible). There’s also the 60Hz display — as nice as it’d be to have a higher refresh rate, the savings outweigh that particular downside, in my opinion.

When I wrote the Pixel 6a review earlier this year, I thought it was too good for the price. But the $100 discount makes it an even better value.

Fido removes $5/mo bill credit promo, still available at Koodo, Virgin

At the end of July, Koodo, Fido, and Virgin Plus rolled out $60/mo plans with 20GB of data. Shortly after, the three flanker brand providers added $5/mo bill credits for 12 months, effectively making the plan $55/mo for 20GB. However, Fido has removed the bill credit from its website and while you can still add the promo code, the site prevents you from checking out.

As of writing, Koodo and Virgin still list the bill credit, but it doesn’t show on Fido’s website. Moreover, you can still add the ‘PROMO5’ code, and while the website shows that you have the $5/mo credit for 12 months, when you try to check out, Fido says the promo code needs to be applied to an “eligible option” to continue.

Considering the $60/20GB plans and the $5/mo bill credit were both promotional offers available ahead of back to school, it’s no surprise to see them starting to go away. Unfortunately, the removal of the $5/mo bill credit from Fido may signal the end of these promotions elsewhere, since when one Canadian provider makes a change, the rest tend to follow.

If you want to claim the $5/mo bill credit before it’s gone for good, head to Koodo or Virgin Plus to sign up for a plan. Both providers offer it on the $55/10GB and the $60/20GB plans.

Fido, Koodo add $5/mo for 12 months discount to match Virgin Plus

Koodo and Fido have rolled out new bill credits to match a Virgin Plus offer launched over the weekend.

As a quick refresher, on July 29th, the Big Three flanker brands launched new $60/mo 20GB plans in most provinces (Quebec, as usual, has better deals). The next day, the three providers quickly added $55/10GB plans. At the same time, Bell’s Virgin Plus added a $5/mo bill credit to the $60/20GB and $55/10GB plans. The bill credit runs for 12 months, giving customers a $60 total discount.

Koodo’s $5/mo discount

Now, Telus’ Koodo and Rogers’ Fido have added similar discounts. Like Virgin, Koodo’s bill credit comes as a $5/mo discount for 12 months ($60 total). Koodo’s website notes that the discount only applies for customers who bring their own phone (dubbed BYOP). Moreover, the provider notes that “some offers may be offered online exclusively,” although I don’t see anything indicating the $60 credit is online-only.

Fido’s $5/mo discount

Fido, on the other hand, explicitly states the $5/mo credit is only available online, and customers need to enter code ‘PROMO5’ to get it. Although the website isn’t clear about the duration of the $5/mo discount, when you enter the promo code, it does state the discount lasts for 12 months (again, $60 total).

Ultimately, $5/mo off is $5/mo off, even if it’s only for 12 months. Still, since all these plans are BYOP, customers aren’t on a contract and can freely leave after 12 months if they want. (Anecdotally, if I were grabbing one of these plans, I’d add a reminder to my calendar 10 months from now to give me a two-month head start on hunting for a better deal to grab before the $5/mo credit expires.)

Anyway, you can grab one of these plans from Fido, Koodo, or Virgin Plus. It’s not clear how long the discounts will stick around, however, and some of the providers mark the plans as limited-time offers, so you may want to hurry.

Costco selling $100 DoorDash e-vouchers for $79.99

Costco members who like ordering from DoorDash will want to take advantage of an e-voucher offer than can net customers $200 in DoorDash gift cards for just $159.98.

As spotted by RedFlagDeals, Costco is selling discounted digital DoorDash coupons. The retailer currently offers $100 DoorDash e-vouchers for $79.99 — buying two gets you $200 for $159.98.

Costco’s website notes the offer is only available until April 16th, although according to the posts on RFD, it seems the deal went live yesterday before going out of stock. Moreover, the website notes a limit of two e-vouchers per customer, but some RFD users claim they were able to place multiple orders.

You can place your order on Costco’s website and then should receive the e-vouchers within an hour. Again, RFD users claim the vouchers come as fast as five minutes after placing the order.

While your mileage may vary with this one, you may want to move quickly in case it goes away again.
