Daredevil and the other Marvel Netflix shows are coming to Disney+ Canada in March

Disney has confirmed that Marvel’s full lineup of Netflix shows will make its way onto Disney+ Canada on March 16th.

Earlier this month, the entertainment giant revealed that it had regained the rights to the series following years-long exclusivity to Netflix. The shows will remain on Netflix until March 1st.

For context, the shows are:

  • Marvel’s Daredevil (three seasons)
  • Marvel’s Jessica Jones (three seasons)
  • Marvel’s Luke Cage (two seasons)
  • Marvel’s Iron Fist (two seasons)
  • Marvel’s The Defenders (one season)
  • Marvel’s The Punisher (two seasons)

Originally running between 2015 and 2019, Netflix’s Marvel shows were generally praised for offering a grittier, street-level take on the Marvel universe. Daredevil, in particular, proved so popular that actors Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin) have since reprised their roles in last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, respectively.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it’s expected that Cox and D’Onofrio will pop up again in future Marvel projects. There’s also always the possibility that other actors from the Netflix shows, like Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones or Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher, could return.

For now, though, Marvel’s Moon Knight is also hitting Disney+ in March. The series stars Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder, and is expected to be darker than Marvel’s other Disney+ shows.

Futurama revival coming to Disney+ Canada in 2023

Following yesterday’s announcement that Futurama is being revived for the U.S. streaming service Hulu, Disney has confirmed that the series is coming to Disney+ Canada as well.

Production will begin later this month ahead of a premiere sometime in 2023. Original creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will return alongside many of the cast, including Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom), Maurice LaMarche (Kif), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil LaMarr (Hermes) and David Herman (Scruffy).

However, John DiMaggio, the voice of Bender and other characters, has not yet signed on. Per Deadline, DiMaggio wanted a deal similar to West and Sagal, but has not been given that. Therefore, his roles are currently being recast, although Deadline notes the producers have a desire for him to return. DiMaggio, for his part, has been sharing fan support on Twitter while issuing his own statement:

“Thanks for the concern and the props, everyone. I really appreciate it. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted, but until then… CHEESE IT! #bendergate,” tweeted DiMaggio.

Futurama originally ran from March 1999 to August 2003 on Fox before being cancelled. Comedy Central later picked up the series, and it aired on its network from 2008 to 2013. All 140 episodes of the series are currently streaming on Disney+ Canada.

Disney has confirmed that last year’s West Side Story will hit Disney+ Canada on March 2nd.

This is the same day the film begins streaming in the U.S. on Disney+ and HBO Max.

The news comes one day after the musical romantic drama was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film is the second feature-length adaptation of the 1957 stage musical of the same name. West Side Story tells the story of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.

The film stars Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez as Bernardo, Mike Faist and Rita Moreno.

It’s worth noting that Disney hasn’t yet confirmed if and when Guillermo Del Toro’s Toronto-shot Nightmare Alley — its second Fox-produced film up for Best Picture — is coming to Disney+ Canada. The neo-noir psychological thriller hit Hulu and HBO Max in the U.S. on January 31st.

‘How I Met Your Father’ to premiere on Disney+ Canada on March 9

Disney has confirmed that How I Met Your Father will premiere exclusively on Disney+ Canada on March 9th under the service’s ‘Star’ banner.

The first two episodes of the series will be available on that date, with new episodes rolling out every subsequent Wednesday. A spin-off of the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother, How I Met Your Father is about a mother named Sophie who, as the title suggests, tells her son the story of how she met his father. To do that, the series follows Sophie and her close-knit group in the past as they navigate love and life.

How I Met Your Father was created by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger and stars Hilary Duff, Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran and Suraj Sharma.

Disney+ won’t be available to Canadian Tesla users anytime soon

Tesla users in Canada won’t be able to access Disney+ any time soon.

The news was confirmed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. A recent tweet revealed Disney only allowed its streaming service to be available to the car giant’s American customers.

It was introduced in the U.S. earlier this year and Canadians, along with their European counterparts, have been inquiring about the service ever since.

Disney+ also won’t be available to European Tesla users either.
