Starbucks and DoorDash partner to bring deliveries from over 500 stores nationwide

Starbucks and DoorDash are entering a newly formed partnership. The two companies are collaborating to bring Starbucks’ menu directly to customers across Canada. Starbucks customers can now place their drink and food orders on DoorDash and order from participating locations.

This partnership effectively expands the coverage of Starbucks Deliveries nationwide. Thanks to the participation of DoorDash, more than 500 locations across Canada are now providing a convenient way of ordering a coffee or a snack. Plus, this partnership marks an expansion into 50 new communities. This expansion includes areas across Saint John, New Brunswick, Squamish, British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.

Starbucks Deliveries will be available via DoorDash through the iOS and Android apps. Additionally, orders can be placed online. Key features of this program include prompt delivery, ensuring secure orders and the ability to track orders through the app. Starbucks also says that 95 percent of its core menu is available via DoorDash.

In 2019, Starbucks formed a similar partnership with Uber Eats. Upon the rollout, participating locations across Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan provided delivery solutions to Canadians.

As part of the new launch, Starbucks announces that customers can get $5 off their next three orders of $20 or more on DoorDash. This promo begins on March 20th and runs until April 2nd.

DoorDash launches new safety features focusing on Dasher safety

DoorDash has launched a new list of safety features for their drivers, or ‘Dashers,’ in Canada.

Real-Time Safety Alerts sees the company partner with samdesk, a platform that keeps track of global crises. In the event of an emergency, the company will alert Dashers, merchants, and customers of situations in an impacted area. The company piloted the feature in the U.S, responding to active shootings, bomb threats, and building fires.

SafeChat focuses on the platform’s chat function in hopes of creating a safe environment. If inappropriate language is detected in a chat, the person on the receiving end will have the option to report the incident, and the sender will receive a warning. A Dasher can bow out of a delivery without consequence.

Safety Reporting allows Dashers to report safety incidents. Porch Light Reminders will see customers receive notifications to turn on their lights when Dashers are approaching to help them feel safe.

“We look forward to continuing to develop and launch innovative new safety features so Dashers earn with more confidence knowing they can get help when they need it,” the company said in a press release.

Costco selling $100 DoorDash e-vouchers for $79.99

Costco members who like ordering from DoorDash will want to take advantage of an e-voucher offer than can net customers $200 in DoorDash gift cards for just $159.98.

As spotted by RedFlagDeals, Costco is selling discounted digital DoorDash coupons. The retailer currently offers $100 DoorDash e-vouchers for $79.99 — buying two gets you $200 for $159.98.

Costco’s website notes the offer is only available until April 16th, although according to the posts on RFD, it seems the deal went live yesterday before going out of stock. Moreover, the website notes a limit of two e-vouchers per customer, but some RFD users claim they were able to place multiple orders.

You can place your order on Costco’s website and then should receive the e-vouchers within an hour. Again, RFD users claim the vouchers come as fast as five minutes after placing the order.

While your mileage may vary with this one, you may want to move quickly in case it goes away again.

DoorDash’s ‘gas rewards’ program will help offset drivers’ fuel costs

Like Uber and Lyft, DoorDash will add a new relief system to help drivers offset rising fuel costs. However, unlike Uber and Lyft, DoorDash’s program will dole out “rewards” based on how much driving its drivers do.

In a statement to MobileSyrup, DoorDash explained:

“As gas prices have increased, we’ve taken time to listen to our Dasher community to understand how we can best support them. Based on those learnings, we’re launching a Gas Rewards program to help Dashers earn more and offset elevated gas prices. We’ll continue to monitor the evolving situation and explore additional resources in the coming weeks and months.”

As of March 14th, DoorDash has offered a weekly gas bonus for Dashers. The amount of money awarded is based on kilometres driven:

  • $5 extra for Dashers who accept and complete orders totalling 150km in a motor vehicle
  • $10 extra for Dashers who accept and complete orders totalling 280km
  • $15 extra for Dashers who accept and complete orders totalling 350km

DoorDash says these rewards work out to an estimated $0.58 to $0.66 per litre on top of normal DoorDash pay. The company plans to maintain the relief program through April and will continue to monitor gas prices.

The practice differs from Uber, which added a fuel surcharge of $0.50 for rides and $0.35 for Uber Eats deliveries. Lyft added a surcharge of $0.55 for rides. It’s worth noting that customers need to pay for these surcharges, while DoorDash says it’s not passing the cost of the gas rewards program onto customers.
