Florence Welch and Drake collaborate on new song

Last weekend, Drake performed in London, England, for two nights. English singer Florence Welch, the famous redheaded lead singer from Florence and the Machine, went to see the rapper on Friday night.

The following night she performed the duet Fireworks onstage with Drake. He originally recorded the song in the studio with Alicia Keys for his 2010 debut album, Thank Me Later. As Keys is not on the tour with Drake, Welch had the opportunity to accompany him during his second evening gig in London.

Florence Welch and Drake met last year during the evening’s MTV Music Awards and have kept in touch ever since. Following her surprise appearance at his concert, it was reported that they are collaborating on a new song.

Details awaiting confirmation include song title, producer, and whether the song will appear on Drake or Welch’s next album.

Justin Bieber enlists help of Taio Cruz

Canadian teen singing sensation Justin Bieber may be looking at giving his fans a bit of a new sound for his next album since MTV News reports that Taio Cruz, the man responsible for getting the world dancing to his mega hit Dynamite this year, is one of the contributors on the pop star’s new album.

“Yes, I am [writing for Justin]," Cruz confirmed to MTV News at Z100’s Jingle Ball on Friday. "I was just recently asked to work for Justin Bieber, so that should be good.

"Yeah, he is a big deal," Cruz added. "I don’t want to disappoint his fans — they can be angry little 12-year-olds. He’s fun. He’s young, so we’ll keep it in the right arena; just fun, young pop music."

Cruz explained how the collaboration came about, "Sometimes the label or someone or management will ask me to write something specifically and they’ll give me a few topics, a few things to focus on, and then we come up with ideas."

Last September, Bieber told MTV News that his next album would "probably [come out] fourth quarter next year.”

“Drake is gonna be on that album; I’m not sure [who else]. I’m gonna ask him if he can get [Lil] Wayne on there," said Bieber.

Drake speaks out about exclusion from Kanye West’s new album

Canadian-born rapper Drake, 24, is insisting that he’s not upset over being excluded from Kanye West’s new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Drake’s vocals, which were recorded as part of the track All Of The Lights, were not included in the final version of the song, although eleven other performers were featured.

While he admits that they have very different work styles, in an interview with Shade 45 radio, Drake shared his views on matters: "To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn’t one of them. That’s completely okay."

An early leak of All Of The Lights included Drake’s performance, but the official version released in November on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was without the Toronto rapper’s contributions, though it still featured top names such as Elton John, Charlie Wilson, Elly Jackson, and Ryan Leslie.

Despite the persistence of rumours that there is rivalry and tension between Drake and West, Drake asserts that it isn’t true. "I feel like hip-hop is broad enough that we can both exist and give great music without feeling like it’s one or the other. I might be the only one that feels that way, though," he said.

Lil Wayne resurfaces at Drake concert

If you like surprises, then you should have been at Drake’s concert at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas last Saturday (November 6).

Just before 11:30 pm, his great friend and mentor, Lil Wayne, joined the Canadian rapper on stage for one song, causing the crowd to go wild. Rumours were swirling that Lil Wayne was in the city, and the sold-out audience repeatedly chanted his name in the hopes he might put in an appearance.

While Lil Wayne was incarcerated in a New York penitentiary, Drake had stood by his friend, visiting whenever possible. Wayne ended up serving eight months in Riker’s Island after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

Drake welcomed him onstage during the song Miss Me from the album Thank Me Later, and embraced his friend at the end of their performance. It was Drake’s last show in Las Vegas for his Light Dreams and Nightmares tour.

Yesterday evening (November 7), a huge homecoming party was held to celebrate Lil Wayne’s release. Although he’ll have to be on good behaviour since to the terms of his release include abstaining from alcohol for the next three years, as well as random drug testing.

Drake reveals inspiration for Alicia Keys song

On Alicia Keys last album, The Element of Freedom, the ballad co-written by Drake, Unthinkable (I’m Ready) is about a tempting, forbidden love. The Canadian rapper recently confirmed a rumour about the muse who inspired him.

It had been assumed that the song was about Keys relationship with producer Swizz Beat, whom she has since married. However, in an interview with Complex, Nicki Minaj loves the song and confessed that Drake told her he had written the song for her.

Faced with Minaj’s revelation Minaj, Drake confirmed the rumour on BET.com. “It is [about Minaj], I’m not gonna lie. The concept came from a conversation that we had, or conversations we have. I wrote it based off two things: Number one, based off that, and then two, based off Alicia and Swizz and their situation, and it just seemed fitting. It was like the perfect concept.”

Drake, 23, won a Juno for rap recording of the year, So Far Gone, and is nominated for two Grammys.

Drake switches it up

Drake starts a new tour next week. The Canadian rapper is fitting in nicely with the hip-hop elite, thanks in large part to his mentor, Lil Wayne. The incarcerated rapper took the young artist under his wing and introduced him to the hip-hop world, imprinting a strong work ethic along the way.

Drake just wrapped up the Away from Home tour. He kicks off a new round of shows on September 21 in Miami, in partnership with AT&T. The series of 11 shows takes place in the United States, including two in the Big Apple.

The Clipse were intially named as Drake’s opening act. He finally decided to go with Tyga, the 20-year old rapper who is part of the Young Money family, the label founded by Lil Wayne.

Drake’s new mini-tour is called the Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. He will continue playing small venues but promises fans some important changes to his live performance.

He told MTV News: "It’s gonna be a real interesting tour. I’m adding all the stuff from Thank Me Later. I’m excited to perform in a world. I’ve never done that before. I’ve got background singers now to make stuff sound sweeter."

The tour wraps up on November 4 in Universal City, California, not far from where Tyga grew up.

Drake is still single

Canadian rapper Drake has been talking about his crush on fellow Young Money star Nicki Minaj for a long time.

He went public about his unrequited love in a song off his debut studio album, Thank Me Later. On Miss Me, featuring Lil Wayne, Drake rapped: I love Nicki Minaj/ I told her I’d admit it/ I hope one day we get married just to say we f***ing did it / And girl I’m f***king serious / I’m with it if you’re with it/ Cause your verses turn me on/ and your jeans are mighty fitted.

Now the two young performers posted messages on Twitter about actually tying the knot. Drake added a message: "Please refer to Nicki Minaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and don’t stare at her too long. She’s finally mine."

Minaj posted her own Twitter message confirming the news. She wrote: "Yes, it’s true. Drake and I tied the knot."

Well, the joke is up. A rep for Nicki Minaj released a statement saying rumours about a secret wedding were "not true". JustJared.com reports the rep said the two were just joking.
