Drake ‘truly scared’ after Alton Sterling shooting

Drake feels "truly scared" following the violent shooting of Alton Sterling.

The 37-year-old father-of-five was selling CDs outside a food mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana early on Tuesday (07.05.16) morning when he was shot dead by two policemen, with the entire incident caught on camera by a passer-by, and Drake is just one of the many celebrities who are horrified by the latest death of a black man at the hands of the US police.

Canadian rapper Drake wrote on Instagram: "I am grateful to be able to call America my second home. Last night, when I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed, it left me feeling disheartened, emotional and truly scared. I woke up with a strong need to say something.

"It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago. No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues.

"This is real and I’m concerned. Concerned for the safety of my family, my friends and any human being that could fall victim to this pattern. I do not know the answer. But I believe things can change for the better. Open and honest dialogue is the first step.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family and any family that has lost someone to this cycle of violence.

"Be safe out there. More life."

Kanye West shared a link to the footage on his Twitter page while Jesse Williams, who was praised for his powerful BET Awards speech on race last month, took to his own Twitter account after the shooting.

He wrote: "In the interest of time, would ye noble patriots please provide a list of infractions punishable by spontaneous public execution? Thanks!".

Zendaya tweeted: "How many more times must this happen for us to matter? How many more must we lose? BLACK. LIVES. MATTER. #AltonSterling," and Amy Schumer added: "Love to Louisiana #AltonSterling."

Justin Timberlake simply wrote: "#AltonSterling", MC Hammer called for justice, writing: "This barbaric behavior under the guise of law is despicable, inhumane and heartbreaking. Justice for #AltonSterling" and Paramore’s Hayley Williams tweeted: "Praying for justice & peace in #AltonSterling case. Leadership roles(i.e. police) MUST require real accountability. The pattern MUST change."

Rihanna buys pizza for fans

Rihanna sent pizza and towels to fans that had been waiting in the rain to see her perform.

The ‘Kiss It Better’ hitmaker sent her loyal supporters, that had been queuing all day outside Emirates Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, north England, a much needed boost with 20 boxes of piping hot pizza, some even signed, and towels to dry off with.

Daniel Reading, 24, who was one of the lucky recipients told the Manchester Evening News: "I was in the queue, and was one of the lucky fans to receive a signed pizza box from the queen of pop. We couldn’t believe it. The pizza was only sent to our side of the queue. It was sent with a message from Rihanna, apologising for the weather."

Whilst another fan wrote on Instagram: "Can’t believe we’ve even queueing all day and the queen @badgalriri gave us pizza and towels to dry off #grateful #cute #rihanna (sic)"

During her energetic set later that night, the 28-year-old singer wowed fans with a number of her biggest hits including ‘Work’, ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Where Have You Been’ whilst Drake also made a surprise appearance.

And when Rihanna isn’t busy touring, she is keen to focus her energies on inspiring young women.

Speaking recently, she said: "Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough. The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else.

"Role model is not the title they like to give me … but I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle. Hopefully one day I’ll be raising my own little black girl who rocks."

Rihanna’s $15k strip club spend

Rihanna splashed out $15,000 in a strip club.

The 28-year-old singer forked out the huge sum at V Live in Houston, Texas, in the early hours of Monday morning (05.16.16) after performing at the city’s Toyota Center on Sunday night (05.15.16) as part of her ‘Anti World Tour’.

According to gossip website TMZ, the Bajan beauty headed to the night spot with her opening act, 24-year-old hip hop star Travis Scott.

A video obtained by the site appears to show Rihanna with a handful of cash while standing next to a scantily-clad dancer.

But it’s not the first time the raven-haired stunner has splashed out big money in the V Live strip club.

In November 2013, the star and her on/off boyfriend Drake dropped $17,000 between them in the night spot after he had performed at the Toyota Center.

According to reports at the time, Drake, 29, splashed out $12,000 and Rihanna spent around $5,000 in the club, where they sat side-by-side and were said to have been very "touchy-feely".

But the pair are not the only celebrities to have spent big in strip joints.

In 2012, P. Diddy, 46, once tweeted his intention to splash out a cool $2 million in the King of Diamonds gentleman’s club in Miami, but later retracted his tweet.

He is still said to have visited the club, but it’s not known how much he spent.

Rapper Rick Ross, 40, visited the King of Diamonds establishment a year earlier and, along with his entourage, dropped a huge $1 million.

What’s more, Drake and Lil’ Wayne, 33, are said to have spent $250,000 in a strip club in 2011, and boxer Floyd Mayweather, 39, reportedly splashed out $100,000 while celebrating DJ Irie’s birthday at Miami nightclub E11even in 2014.

Rihanna enjoying single life

Rihanna isn’t looking for "any type of relationship now".

The ‘Diamonds’ hitmaker met up with her former flame Leonardo DiCaprio at the recent Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and whilst they are "friends and still hang out", they have no plans to get back together.

A source told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: "They chatted closely. She had a smile on her face. It was hard to see her full reaction since she had those sparkly big sunglasses on.

"They are friends and still hang out. They both like the same type of music and that’s usually when they run into each other. Neither of them are looking for any type of relationship now."

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old singer’s ex-boyfriend Drake previously revealed he had a "genuine energy" with the star.

Speaking about their friendship and collaboration on his track ‘Too Good’, he said: "We’re not forcing some story on people. A lot of the music and energy we have is genuine. We have a genuine energy.

"[I was like] I think I have one that would follow this one [‘Work’] up really nicely. It was like a flawless victory when she sent it back. Every nuance, every cadence was perfect … That’s what makes the record."

However, Rihanna recently insisted she has no time for a "steady relationship".

She said: "I’m single right now. And it’s not that I’m like, ‘Oh, pro single. Yes, I hate men.’ I just think that I just have so much on my plate that I can’t even find the time to entertain a steady relationship or anything serious … [I don’t even have time to send] a text. Right now it’s just crazy."

Nick Jonas to receive songwriting honour

Nick Jonas is to be honoured by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The 23-year-old singer-and-actor will receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the Hall’s 47th Annual Induction and Awards in New York on June 9 in honour of his "bright and versatile" talent and lengthy career.
Songwriters Hall of Fame co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff told People magazine: "Nick Jonas is one of the brightest and most versatile young talents on the American pop scene.
"A veteran of recording, television, movies and Broadway success … he has been making his cultural mark in a variety of ways for more than a decade.
"Nick has literally grown up in public, and that growth is reflected in his songwriting and singing. He is a wonderful choice for the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award."

Ariana Grande wants an end to sexist lyrics in songs

Ariana Grande has declared war on male pop stars who call women "hos and bitches" in their songs.
The 22-year-old singer wants to put an end to the use of derogatory terms used by rappers and musicians in their tracks, as well as in real life, to address the opposite sex and insists the vulgar trend needs to "go away soon".
She said: "When men talk about women in songs it’s like, ‘Oh, hell yeah, hos and bitches’.
"And if a girl makes a song about a break up then it’s like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe she did that’, or, ‘What a sl*t!’
"Whether it’s the music industry or real-life we need to break the standard and it needs to go away soon."
The ‘Dangerous Woman’ hitmaker – who previously dated rapper Big Sean and has worked with Chris Brown, both known for using sexist terms in their songs – likes to see women stick up for themselves and she believes talking about the issue is the only way it will ever get resolved.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I love seeing women be more vocal about these things because it is the only thing that will make a change – being really honest and speaking up.
"It’s about being supportive of one another and keeping your friends close. Most of my friends are from home. They would kick my ass if I ever let anything go to my head."
Ariana split from Big Sean, 28, last April after eight months together and she is now dating back-up dancer Ricky Alvarez.

Rihanna’s fashion regret

Rihanna’s only regret in life is not wearing a "bedazzled" thong with a see-through dress.
The 28-year-old singer caused a stir at the 2014 CFDA awards when she donned a sheer Adam Selman dress with nothing but nude pants underneath and she admitted she wanted to "slice [her] throat" for not being more daring with her choice of underwear.
She told America’s Vogue magazine: "I just liked it better without the lines underneath.
"Could you imagine the CFDA dress with a bra? I would slice my throat. I already wanted to, for wearing a thong that wasn’t bedazzled. That’s the only regret I have in my life."
Elsewhere in the interview, the ‘Work’ hitmaker dismissed speculation she was upset that Beyonce’s surprise release of ‘Formation’ disrupted her own comeback.
She said: "Here’s the deal. They just get so excited to feast on something that’s negative. Something that’s competitive. Something that’s, you know, a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only do me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that."
And though the singer has recently been romantically linked with her ex-boyfriend Drake again, she insists she is currently too busy to date, though she has "hope" the situation will change.
She said: "My schedule is so crazy right now…It’s definitely going to be a challenge when I do decide to pursue a relationship…but I have hope!"
