Michael Kors to get fashion honour

Michael Kors is to be given the 2013 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion.

The designer will be rewarded for his work on September 4 and he says it’s a huge honor to get the accolade.

He told WWD: "I’m deeply honored to receive this award from the Couture Council. They do such an amazing job putting the spotlight on design, and I think that to be included in the esteemed company that has been awarded this honor in the past is very gratifying and very exciting."

Michael believes American sportswear has finally been recognized as a global phenomenon.

He said: "I’m always happy to wave the flag that design is not strictly haute couture, but that there is something about American sportswear that is such a part of global dressing now. I think people now realize there is more to American sportswear than jeans and T-shirts. It’s a way of dressing, it’s a way of life, ultimately. It’s not American anymore, it’s global."

The honor – which will be presented by the Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology – will be awarded at a benefit luncheon at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center.

The luncheon kicks off New York Fashion Week.

France Against Anorexia

Cyberpresse.ca announced that in France, as part of their plan to combat anorexia, professionals in the fashion, media, and advertising industries have decided to boycott the transmission of images of models who are excessively thin.

The Minister of Health established a one-year charter to combat anorexia.  Among those who signed the agreement in Paris were the French Couture Federation, the French Fashion Syndicate and the Union of Modeling Agencies.

This agreement was made to make a statement that it is not acceptable to encourage people, especially young women, to be extremely thin.

Italy, Spain, and Great Britain have already taken certain measures against the promotion of extremely thin models.
