Louis Vuitton creates World Cup trophy travel case

The World Cup of soccer kicks off on June 11 in South Africa. Luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton unveiled the travel case it designed that will carry the trophy home for the winning team of this international tournament.

Vuitton recently unveiled a special ad campaign reuniting three big names in the sport. The campaign featured Pelé, Zinedine Zidane and Diego Maradona challenging each other to a foosball game at café Maravillas in Madrid.

Internationally renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz immortalized the friendly game between these three legends for the Louis Vuitton campaign called Three Exceptional Journeys, One Historic Game.

Now, the brand unveiled the unique case that FIFA ordered. It was custom made and hand crafted by a master craftsman at Louis Vuitton’s workshop in Asnières, France.

The case is covered with the brand’s signature canvas and will contain, of course, the 18-carat gold trophy to be awarded in just a few weeks to the team that wins the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

New music from both sides of the border

Today is a rather calm day for music releases with not many albums to note. However, of those that do hit store shelves on this first day of June, the one getting the most attention is likely Jack Johnson’s To The Sea. The crooner’s legions of swooning female fans will enjoy more of the same from this eco-friendly musician.

For those looking to dance the summer away, Taio Cruz releases an album today. His song Break Your Heart (featuring Ludacris) is currently tearing up the charts after being released in the United States in March 2010. The British musician drops his album Rokstarr in North America today. It contains his hit song and a dozen others that will make you move.

The biggest global sporting event of the year kicks off in 12 days with the start of the FIFA World Cup. Today marks the launch of the event’s official album. Listen Up! The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup album contains songs by Shakira, John Legend and Wyclef Jean.

There is not much going on north of the border today. Fans of Lulu Hughes & The Montreal All City Big Band will enjoy a new release and should look for Lulu and the band at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

Akon to Perform at 2010 World Cup

Singer Akon, who is quite established as an international artist, was chosen to arrange the official theme song for the 2010 World Cup soccer competition.

Akon, originally from Senegal, was approached by FIFA to become the musical director of the event, which will take place in South Africa in June next year. He will be opening the ceremony with his composition.

"I’ve been hired as musical director for the World Cup," the singer said. "I will be overseeing the World Cup anthem and music at the ceremonies and I’m off to South Africa this week for meetings. I love soccer, so it’s a great honour," he added.

Even though he is friends with British soccer star David Beckham, Akon admitted that he’ll be rooting for his own country in the games.
