Devo wears Olympic blue

One of the biggest names in New Wave is back and releasing a new album 19 years after its last. To mark the occasion, Devo has put a new song on its website  that you can download for free. Fresh will only be available for 24 hours.

When you take a listen, you immediately recognize the group’s particular sound. The band started in 1973 in Akron, Ohio. They are best known for the song Whip It that came out in 1980.

Devo has been writing songs recently and riding the wave of their past success. They performed last night (February 22) in Whistler, BC. It was a free concert in Medals Plaza, the site where they hand out Olympic medals to athletes.

Their famous red energy hats were coloured blue for the Olympic show.

Devo was one of the pivotal groups in the New Wave music scene along with the B-52s and The Cars. The movement originated in England where musicians wanted to differentiate themselves from the punk rock scene.

The new album will be released in May. A single from that album will come out first on vinyl this April while the group is playing the Coachella Festival in California. The single and its side B will be made available online and the whole album will be available a month later.
