Elden Ring expansion ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ is in development: Are you excited?

FromSoftware officially revealed the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring this week, and I’m incredibly excited.

The news was confirmed via tweets from both the Elden Ring and FromSoftware Twitter accounts, offering a glimpse at artwork from the expansion.

The image seems to show Miquella riding on Torrent, the Spectral Steed, and a dying Erdtree in the background.

We don’t know much, but YouTuber VaatiVidya outlines what to expect from the DLC with many of his speculations.

Even though we know little about the DLC so far, I’m hyped. I’m hoping this expansion is massive, though I also want FromSoftware to take its time with it. At The Game Awards, CD Projekt Red was able to win RPG of the year two years in a row (first with The Witcher 3 and then its Blood and Wine expansion), so I’m hoping Elden Ring can take the double crown as well.

PlayStation is open to turning FromSoftware games into movies or TV shows

PlayStation is open to developing film or TV versions of FromSoftware titles following its recent investment in the company.

PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said to Reuters that when the company purchased FromSoftware properties, it became open to the idea of giving them the PlayStation Productions treatment.

“You should think of collaborations on the game development side first and foremost,” Hulst said of FromSoftware, “but it’s also not unthinkable with our PlayStation Productions efforts that we explore opportunities.”

Sony has made films and movies based on some of its other IPs. For instance, Uncharted had a movie starring Tom Holland, while a TV series based on The Last of Us is in the works, as is a Ghost of Tsushima movie.

Dark Souls and Elden Ring both have so much hidden lore that you could probably make a series with several seasons out of either property. A title like Sekiro also has a dedicated storyline that could be adapted into a movie or TV series.

I’d definitely pay a lot of money to watch a horror movie based on Bloodborne.

Elden Ring studio already has a new game in the ‘final stages’ of development

Beloved developer FromSoftware has confirmed that one of its upcoming games is nearly done.

In an interview with 4Gamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki, president and main director at FromSoftware, was asked about comments he gave to the Japanese outlet in 2018. At the time, Miyazaki said two unannounced games were in the works at FromSoftware — one of which has since been revealed to be this year’s critically-acclaimed Elden Ring.

Now, Miyazaki has said that the second game is “currently in the final stages” of development. However, he didn’t provide any further details, such as its title or general premise. It’s possible that this game might be a new entry in FromSoftware’s Armored Core mech shooter series, following a leak from earlier this year.

That said, FromSoftware likely isn’t in a hurry to reveal this mysterious new title, given how well Elden Ring continues to perform. In the same interview, Miyazaki confirmed that more updates are coming to the game, which will presumably include some form of downloadable content like most of FromSoftware’s other games have received.

Additionally, Miyazaki said he plans to continue to focus on directing games and is already helming his next project. It’s unclear what this might be, although he is pursuing a “more abstract fantasy” concept than what FromSoftware has previously created.
