Samsung’s upcoming foldables are the ultimate tools for productivity and self-expression, exec says

August 10th is the official launch date for Samsung’s next set of foldable smartphones, and the company’s president and head of MX Business says they’re a sight to behold

“I can’t wait to show you the potential of our new Samsung Galaxy foldables as the ultimate tool for both productivity and self-expression,” TM Roh wrote in a blog post about the Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 smartphones.

“At our upcoming Unpacked on August 10th, you’ll see that the impact of our innovation is not only about what technology can do. It’s about what you can do. We’ve once again taken our inspiration from the most important source — Galaxy users — to push the limits of what’s possible.”

Looking back on the Fold 3 and Flip 3, Roh said 70 percent of Galaxy foldable users switched to Flip 3. The company shipped 10 million foldable devices worldwide in 2021, increasing the figure by 300 percent since 2020.

Renders leaked earlier this month show the Galaxy Flip 4 could share many similarities with its predecessor. However, the device does appear to have more pronounced volume buttons and could support 8GB RAM with 128/256Gb storage options.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 renders show off thinner and boxier design

A new concept video reveals what Samsung’s often-rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 4 might look like.

This concept comes from Technizo Concept, and it’s based on previous leaks and CAD-based renders.

The Fold 4 sports a more boxy, flatter design compared to last year’s model. The cameras protrude from the back, but there’s no island for the sensors, unlike its predecessor. This is a design that’s evidently inspired by the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The Fold 4’s display is also wider than the Fold 3, and it sports a side-facing fingerprint scanner on the right-hand side alongside its volume up and down buttons.

Unlike previous rumours we’ve seen, this latest leak indicates the Fold 4 won’t feature a storage slot for the S Pen.

It’s possible that the Galaxy Fold 4 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, but when Qualcomm listed the name of partners that will be utilizing the new processor, the company omitted Samsung from the list.

Finally, the Fold 4’s display crease is expected to be not as pronounced as the Fold 3’s, and it will likely feature a smaller hinge.

We expected Samsung to announce the phone in August or September later this year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 unofficial renders showcases nothing new

First, we saw unofficial renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and now we’re checking out unofficial renders of the Z Flip 4.

This leak comes from OnLeaks via 91Mobiles, and shows off a phone that’s almost identical to its predecessor.

According to the leak, the Z Flip 4 will feature a 6.7-inch foldable display with a hole-punch selfie cutout in the middle, USB-C  port, SIM tray, speaker grill, dual cameras, and a secondary screen that displays time and notifications

The foldable will release in a blue colour variant, but multiple colours will be offered. Additionally, 91Mobiles speculates that the device will feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor. The phone’s rear also features a two-tone colouring similar to last year’s model.

It’s unclear when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Flip 4, but it will likely appear in August or September.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 concept features S Pen and new camera setup

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 was my favourite smartphone of 2021, so it’s cool to see how the Galaxy Z Fold 4 could build on its already established, well-recieved design.

The concept, designed by Waqar Khan, looks similar to the Z Fold 3 in several ways. The most significant changes are three protruding cameras on the rear instead of a more prominent camera bump, and storage for the S Pen.

Both changes make the handset look similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra in some ways. Alongside these changes, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and an in-display camera, just like the Z Fold 3.

Last year, Samsung announced the Z Fold 3 on August 11th, so we still have several months before we’ll know for sure what the Z Fold 4 might look like.

Samsung will reportedly launch 64 devices in 2022

While Samsung is globally the largest smartphone manufacturer, it’s still shocking to see that the company plans to launch 64 different smartphones and tablets throughout 2022.

South Korean publication The Elec reports that Samsung has plans to release 64 different devices in 2022, including various foldables, smartphones and tablets. The company plans to launch 20 phones with its Exynos chips, 31 devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and 14 with the MediaTek chipsets. Of course, as usual, chipset differences will likely be based on region.

More specifically, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 will reportedly feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 898, and the Galaxy S22 series will use both the Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets depending on the release region. However, some devices will use the Exynos processors exclusively, according to the report. For example, the report states that an Exynos chip will power the Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy S22 FE.

The Elec also reports that the company plans to ship more than 10 million foldables in 2022, with the South Korean manufacturer projecting a total of 6.9 million devices sold. Finally, the report states that Samsung plans to sell 67 million devices.

Rumours indicate that the Galaxy S22, the South Korean tech giant’s next major smartphone, will release in January or February of next year.
