Jets confirm the bad news for Josh Morrissey.

The Winnipeg Jets have just confirmed some bad news.

According to an official announcement from Jets public relations, Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey will not return to Game 3 after he suffered an unspecified injury in the first period of today’s game.

It is unclear exactly how Morrissey was injured, but prior to leaving the ice he was involved in an awkward collision with Las Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud. Subsequently, Morrissey struggled to get off the ice before taking a seat on the Jets bench, but he would not return to the ice.

Morrissey was on the ice for just his second shift of the game when he suffered the injury.

Auston Matthews and Steven Stamkos trade punches in Game 3!

Things have turned ugly in Game 3 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A heated exchange in the third period has resulted in several penalties, an injury to Lightning forward Brayden Point, and even something of a scrap between two superstars in Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews.

It was a hit from Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly that would draw the ire of the Lightning but, since he couldn’t get his hands on Rielly, Stamkos would go for the next best thing and instead targeted Auston Matthews.

Here’s a longer clip of what led to the exchange:

Jon Cooper furious over disallowed goal in Game 3.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are furious heading into the second intermission, this in spite of the fact that they currently boast a 3-2 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs after 40 minutes of play.

Lightning head coach Jon Cooper nearly blew a gasket on the Lightning bench after a mistake from the National Hockey League’s officials cost his team what would otherwise have been a sure goal.

In fact it appeared as though Lightning forward Brayden Point had scored a goal after Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov lost sight of the puck, but one of the officials on the ice prematurely blew his whistle. This resulted in the play being blown dead prior to the puck crossing the goal line, and even upon review the officials were forced to deprive both Point and the Lightning of a goal.

This resulted in Cooper snapping on the bench, launching a tirade at the officials that had just cost his team so dearly.

Hurricanes get unexpected boost minutes prior to Game 3

The Carolina Hurricanes got terrible news heading into Game 3 of their first round series against the New York Islanders. They found out that forward Teuvo Teravainen will be out for the remainder of the team’s series against the New York Islanders, maybe longer, with a fractured hand. Teravainen was the last man standing of the trio with Max Pacioretty and Andrei Svechnikov, both of whom are on injured reserve with season-ending lower-body injuries. This prompted the Canes to recall six players ahead of Game 3.

Now in warmups, minutes before puck drop in New York, forward Jesse Puljujarvi was on the ice and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman believes he will be in the Hurricanes’ lineup, making his playoff debut with the club.

Puljujarvi was a healthy scratch in Carolina’s first two playoff games. He had only two assists in 17 games with the Hurricanes after his trade from the Edmonton Oilers on Feb. 28.

At the same thing, the Islanders might be able to count on defenseman Alexander Romanov, who has not played since April 1, as he took part in warmups after the Islanders called him a game time decision on Friday.

Shocking Bruins’ lineup change minutes before Game 3

The Boston Bruins have listed forward David Krejci has a scratch for Game 3 of their first round series against the Florida Panthers on Friday night.

The Bruins then announced the reason why Krejci was out, with an upper-body injury.

Krejci suited up for both Games 1 and 2 in Boston for the Bruins and traveled with the team for both contests in Florida. The veteran posted just an assist for far in the series.

An update is likely to be given after Game 3 with a possible hint at whether Krejci will be able to take part in Game 4 on Sunday.

Six players called back hours before Game 3 in New York!

The worst was confirmed for the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday as forward Teuvo Teravainen will be out for the remainder of the team’s series against the New York Islanders, maybe longer, with a fractured hand. Teravainen suffered the injury after receiving a slash to the hand from Islanders forward J.G. Pageau.

Teravainen was the last man standing of the trio with Max Pacioretty and Andrei Svechnikov, both of whom are on injured reserve with season-ending lower-body injuries. That triple force is out of order, which forced the Hurricanes to recall six players: forwards Ville Koivunen, Vasily Ponomarev, Jamieson Rees and Ryan Suzuki, defenseman Maxime Lajoie and goaltender Zach Sawchenko from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The Hurricanes need to feel secure in added depth and while most of these players won’t suit up for a playoff contest, you can never be too sure with the injury bug apparently going around.

After winning both Games 1 and 2 in Raleigh, the Hurricanes will look to keep going away from home in New York, tonight for Game 3.
