Game of Thrones prequel The Hedge Knight is coming to HBO

Another Game of Thrones spinoff set in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire world is on the way.

HBO has confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has been ordered by the network. It’s unclear when the TV show will release.

If The Hedge Knight sticks to the plot of its source material, Martin’s Dunk and Egg novel, it follows the journey of knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg (Aegon V Targaryen) as they travel across Westeros. The Dunk and Egg novel takes place 100 years before the Game of Thrones series.

This is the second Game of Thrones TV show prequel from HBO, following House of the Dragon. It’s unclear when the second season of House of the Dragon will release, but production has been confirmed to have started. HBO is also working on a series about Game of Thrones lead Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and several other projects based on R.R. Martin’s novels.

HBO has confirmed that The Hedge Knight will be written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker (the team behind House of the Dragon). The network has also announced plans to create a TV series based on the Harry Potter franchise.

Did you find the last House of the Dragon episode dark? We have a few theories

If you couldn’t see House of the Dragon’s most recent episode, ‘Driftmark,’ because it was too dark, you aren’t alone.

A quick search on Reddit, Twitter, TikTok or any social media platform reveals that viewers encountered significant issues while watching the episode. This isn’t the first time this has happened, either. In 2019, Game of Thrones’ ‘The Long Night’ was also a blurry mess for many viewers.

This isn’t a coincidence either, as both episodes were helmed by the same director, Miguel Spochnik. So why did this happen? According to HBO Max’s official Twitter help account, the ample darkness in the episode was an “intentional creative decision.”

There’s a bit more to it than that, though.

First, if you watch the behind-the-scenes feature tied to the episode, most of Driftmark was shot during the day and adjusted to look like it was set at night. It’s also important to remember that Spochnik isn’t shooting the episode for your smartphone, tablet or even television and instead is calibrating it to an OLED reference monitor that’s likely far brighter than your standard LED or LCD television.

There’s also the issue of the sometimes poor bitrate Bell-owned Crave streams at on specific platforms. I typically watch Crave content on the Apple TV and have experienced very few issues with House of the Dragon, but I know that’s not the case for those watching via game consoles and other streaming devices. In fact, the TV show even streams in 4K on the Apple TV.

Backing up this theory, I didn’t encounter any issues while watching Driftmark and was confused by viewers’ furious tweets. The episode’s dark scenes had a weird blue aura over them, which I assumed was tied to the fact that it was shot during the day, but other than that, I could view everything perfectly. For additional context, I’m currently using a new Hisense U8H LED TV, which doesn’t feature an OLED panel but still offers a decent 1500 nits of peak brightness and Dolby Vision.

With this in mind, unless you want to turn the brightness up on your TV to watch certain episodes of House of the Dragon (which also might not even work), you’ll need to buy a new TV.

House of the Dragon suffers from green finger blunder

House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spin-off made by HBO, just had a funny visual effects issue on its most recent episode.

During the third episode titled ‘Second of His Name,’ which aired on September 4th, viewers noticed a VFX blunder during the episode. King Viserys, played by Paddy Considine, is missing two fingers on his left hand; however, in one scene, you can clearly see the fingers wrapped in a green covering that should have been digitally removed in post-production.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source has told them that the episode will be corrected and should be hitting streaming platforms later this week.

Years ago, during Game of Thrones, we once saw a blunder in the last season of the series. That scene featured a Starbucks cup on the table. This had to be fixed and added to streaming services as well.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports that co-showrunner Ryan Condal said before the release of House of the Dragon that the team was careful to stop this from happening again; however, I guess they were too busy looking out for Starbucks Cups, and not paying enough attention to green fingers.

House of Dragon premiere takes down Crave across several platforms

Just as HBO’s House of Dragon hit Bell’s Crave streaming service at 9pm ET/6pm PT on August 21st, reports emerged that the streaming platform either won’t launch or stream.

Tweets from several Twitter users highlight experiencing various issues tied to the streaming service not launching or the episode not playing:

For what it’s worth, House of Dragon seems to be playing on Crave’s iOS and Apple TV app (I’m currently watching the episode while writing this story). House of Dragon is set two hundred years before Game of Thrones and follows the beginning of the end of House Targaryen.

Crave ‘can’t confirm’ if new Game of Thrones spin-off will stream in 4K

HBO Max’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon is airing on Bell’s Crave streaming service on August 21st at 9pm ET/6am PT.

On HBO Max in the U.S., House of the Dragon will stream in 4K resolution; however, that might not be the same situation on Crave in Canada. MobileSyrup reached out to Bell regarding House of Dragon’s streaming quality, and we’ve learned that the upcoming TV show’s resolution is currently up in the air.

“At this time, we can’t confirm that HBO’s House of the Dragon will be available in 4K on Crave. Our team is working on it and we hope to have an update soon,” said a Crave spokesperson.

We’ll hopefully learn more about the situation before the official launch of the HBO Max Original series.

For those wondering if Crave even offers 4K, Bell soft-launched 4K content on Apple TV and then proceeded to release 4K content on Android TV, FireTV and Chromecast platforms. Back when 4K content was first announced, titles like Wonder Woman 1984,  Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Godzilla vs Kong were some of the first movies/TV shows to stream in 4K on the above platforms.

House of Dragon takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of the House of Targaryen.

House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno. The series will feature ten episodes.

Meet HBO’s most dysfunctional family

HBO introduced House of the Dragon its new series as the most dysfunctional family ever. Dysfunctional dragons!

It was HBO ‘s Casey Bloys who confirmed that the Targaryens, the family of the upcoming new series, was probably the most dysfunctional on the network so far, downgrading the Roy family in “Succession.”

At the Los Angeles premiere, Bloys had this to say:

“We’ve had the Sopranos, we’ve had the Fishers (“Six Feet Under), we’ve got the Roys, and then now you’ll see tonight and over the next few weeks… The Targaryens, who may be the most dysfunctional family we’ve ever had on HBO, not to mention that they have 17 dragons at their disposal.”

Bottom line, House of the Dragon takes place approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the succession wars of House Targaryen.

House of the Dragon will hit theaters on August 21.

Kit Harington would reprise his role as Jon Snow

Fans of Game of Thrones, here is a news that will make you happy. Kit Harington would have offered to take over his famous character of Jon Snow for a brand new TV series.

The author George R.R. Martin, to whom we owe the series Game of Thrones, confirmed the rumor. Kit Harington could resume his role as the former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

According to Us Weekly, the actor who played Jon Snow in GoT from April 2011 to May 2019 would already be attached to the project. Ten days ago, the Hollywood Reporter reported that HBO Max was already in the early stages of production of the new series.

JonSnow was technically the rightful heir to the Iron Throne of Westeros, so there’s room to launch a Game of Thrones prequel starring the 35-year-old Englishman.

Until the TV network confirms the arrival of a new series starring Kit Harington and his character Jon Snow, fans will soon be able to get their teeth into the House of The Dragon series. The series tells the story of House Targaryen and stars Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

HBO intends to build on the success of GoT for a long time to come. Five other TV series have been commissioned from George R.R. Martin.

House of The Dragon will be released on August 21.

Game of Thrones spin-off starring Kit Harington reportedly in the works

A Game of Thrones sequel with Jon Snow is reportedly in-development at HBO, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the publication, HBO is currently in the early development phase of the Game of Thrones sequel, which is reported to be a live-action spinoff centred around Jon Snow, played by Grammy-nominated Kit Harington.

Since the series finale, Harington has appeared in Marvel’s “Eternals” as Dane Whitman, as well as an episode of Amazon’s “Modern Love.”

Spoilers below:

Snow was exiled from Westeros to the Night’s Watch in the season eight series finale of GOT, after having learned that his true name was Aegon Targaryen and he was the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. Snow was last seen travelling north of the Wall with the Wildlings. It would be interesting if the story continues where the event of the finale concluded. It’s unknown whether other familiar faces from the series will make their way to the rumoured spin-off.

House of the Dragon, an HBO spin-off set 200 years before the events of GOT will premiere on Crave on August 21.

Other prequel spin-offs already confirmed by HBO include Tales of Dunk and Egg, 10,000 Ships and Nine Voyages. It’s likely that the in-development spin-off with Harrington at the center of it will also make its way to Crave. The report doesn’t mention any tentative release dates.
