Banjo-Kazooie is coming to Nintendo Switch Online in January

Nintendo already confirmed that N64 classic Banjo-Kazooie is making its way to the ‘Expansion Pack’ tier of its Switch Online service, but the game now has a January release window.

Rare studio head Craig Duncan retweeted Nintendo’s announcement regarding the news, stating that it’s “always a pleasure to work with our good friends at Nintendo.”

Once one of Nintendo’s most celebrated 2nd-party developers, Rare was purchased by Microsoft back in 2002. This also isn’t the first Nintendo and Rare have collaborated on a project. For example, Banjo and Kazooie were added as an additional fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in 2019.

Nintendo recently added Paper Mario 64 to Switch Online’s Expansion Pack tier. The Expansion Pack has been heavily criticized for featuring shoddy emulation across both its Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles. Players have cited issues like delayed on-screen responses to button presses and weird graphical glitches. Nintendo has yet to address these issues.

An individual Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription costs $63.99 for 12 months, while a Family Membership costs $99.99 for 12 months.

It Takes Two wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021

It Takes Two has won Game of the Year (GOTY) at The Game Awards 2021.

The game was developed by Swedish studio Hazelight, the makers of the critically-acclaimed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out.

It Takes Two was directed by Josef Fares, who is infamous at The Game Awards for a “f*** the Oscars” rant in 2017. Fares took the stage to accept the award — you can see his acceptance speech below:

The top honour was determined primarily by a jury of games industry media, although a small percentage of votes came from fans. The other GOTY contenders were Deathloop, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2 and Resident Evil Village.

It Takes Two follows a married couple that plans to get a divorce, only for them to be transformed into their kid’s toys. From there, they must begrudgingly work together to find a way to return to their human bodies.

Notably, the game is only playable via co-op — either locally or online. Buying the game nets you a ‘Buddy Pass’ that can be shared to play with someone else online at no additional cost. It Takes Two has received significant praise for its focus on inventive co-operative mechanics.

It Takes Two is available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. The game is also available on EA Play, which is included of a $16.99 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss unveil ‘The Matrix Awakens’ experience

Following a tease earlier this week, Canadian actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss appeared at The Game Awards to formally unveil The Matrix Awakens.

Now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it’s a Matrix gaming experience that features highly photorealistic visuals produced entirely within Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. In it, Reeves and Moss reprise their respective Matrix roles of Neo and Trinity. The clip that we got showed Neo and Trinity shooting at enemies while driving.

While it’s not intended to be an actual full game for new-gen console owners to play, it does showcase the graphical potential of the Fortnite maker’s engine.

The Matrix Awakens was unveiled alongside a new look at The Matrix Resurrections, which releases exclusively in Canadian theatres on December 22nd. Check it out below:

Former BioWare boss unveils Victorian-era survival crafting game Nightingale

The next game from former BioWare Edmonton boss Aaryn Flynn has been revealed at The Game Awards.

Officially titled Nightingale, it’s a shared-world survival crafting game set in a Victorian-era fantasy world. The game is being developed by Edmonton-based Inflexion Games, formerly known as Improbable IO.

In the trailer, you can see characters navigating different portals and facing off against terrifying creatures. Because of the shared-world element, you’ll be able to play either with other people or on your own.

Nightingale is set to launch in early access on PC next year.

It’s an exciting project, given Flynn’s pedigree. The Canadian developer left BioWare in 2017 to join Improbable after a lengthy tenure that had him overseeing the beloved Mass Effect trilogy.
