Japan’s Super Nintendo World is getting a Donkey Kong-themed expansion

Nintendo’s Japanese Super Nintendo World theme park will soon get an ape-filled expansion.

Set to open in 2024 is a new Donkey Kong-themed area. The new section of the park will feature a roller coaster, interactive experiences and themed merchandise and food.

“Guests will be able to take a walk on the wild side through the lush jungles where Donkey Kong and his friends live,” reads Nintendo’s blog post regarding the announcement.

This new addition will increase the theme park’s size by 70 percent, says Nintendo.

Nintendo’s Donkey Kong franchised started back in 1981 as an arcade game. Donkey Kong has been featured in several titles across Nintendo’s consoles following his arcade debut, including the Donkey Kong Country series and Donkey Kong 64.

Since its inception, the series has sold more than 65 million units.

The park initially opened in March 2021 after a lengthy delay due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

New trailers launch for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Legends: Arceus

Two trailers have launched for Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer shows off the new Noble Pokémon, including powerful boss fights and Pocket Monsters becoming ‘Frenzied.’

Additionally, the trailer showcases how riding Wyrdeer, Basculegion, Braviary can get you across different terrain in the game. The trailer also reveals Jubifife Village, a town where you’ll be able to update your appearance and take pictures in a photography studio.

It looks like there are Warden’s around the region that you’ll have to battle, giving us our first glimpse at trainer battles in Arceus. Finally, the trailer shows off Kleavor, a Bug/Rock-type evolution of Kanto’s Scyther.

A new trailer also dropped for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, showing off the return of Pokétch with the Dowsing Machine and Hidden Moves (like Fly, Cut and Surf).

In the trailer, the game shows off how to create Poffins and that you’ll be able to run around with all six of your Pokémon in Amity Square.

Unfortunately, there are still no signs of Mega Pokémon coming to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch on November 19th, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases on January 28th for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch getting a six-button Sega Genesis controller, but only in Japan

Last week, Nintendo made the surprise announcement that Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games are coming to Switch Online as part of a new paid ‘Expansion Pack’ tier. Nintendo will also sell $64.99 N64 and Genesis controllers to use with these games.

Now, the company has revealed a special version of the Genesis controller that has six buttons instead of the usual three. However, it will only be offered in Japan, a Nintendo of America spokesperson confirmed to Polygon.

The spokesperson didn’t provide a specific reason for this exclusivity outside of a general “different regions make different decisions based on a variety of factors” statement. That said, the spokesperson did note that the three-button configuration was “by far the more widely used and well-known SEGA Genesis controller in these regions.”

Switch Online

As Polygon explains, this was certainly true. The six-button controller didn’t release until several years after the launch of the Genesis. It was introduced then in response to the increasing popularity of input-heavy arcade games like Street Fighter and Streets of Rage.

It’s important to note that while Nintendo Switch accessories are technically region-free, the company says it “cannot ensure compatibility between systems and accessories for all regions.” Therefore, you might want to keep that in mind if you’re thinking of importing the six-button gamepad or any other Japan-exclusive peripherals.

For now, though, the three-button controller and Switch Online Expansion Pack are set to launch sometime in October. Nintendo says specific pricing and release timing will be revealed at a later date.

Final Fantasy Tactics-esque ‘Triangle Strategy’ coming to Nintendo Switch in March

Triangle Strategy, an upcoming strategy-RPG from Square Enix, is coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 4th, 2022.

Revealed during a previous Nintendo Direct as Project Triangle Strategy, the game is a spiritual successor of sorts to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Tactics series that uses Octopath Traveler‘s stunning aesthetic.

“In response to the survey about the demo released in February of this year, the game has been fine-tuned with a focus on elements that received lots of feedback,” said Square Enix during the Direct. “These include adjustments to the difficulty, improvements to on-screen visuals, camera angle controls, the ability to review previous dialogue, and streamlined game flow and loading times.”

The game features a branching narrative focused on Serenoa Wolffort, the heir to one of the world’s great houses. Players will get to form parties consisting of knights, mages, archers and more as they make their way through the choice-driven story.
