New Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer reveals classic gameplay and four-player co-op

The latest Pokémon Scarlet/Violet trailer has dropped, revealing a more comprehensive look at the new game’s map, characters and more. The trailer even finally reveals the upcoming title’s new legendary Pokémon

The trailer suggests that Scarlet and Violet game will play out similarly to 2019’s Sword and Shield , but with a few modern touches brought over from Pokémon Arceus Legends, such as sneaking and being able to move around freely in an expansive 3D space.

Some fans of the series believe that this new Pokémon realm is based in Spain or South America, and the landscape in the new trailer does seem to add up to that.

Another modern feature that’s being brought into Pokémon Scarlet/Violet is four-player online co-op. Previous entries have offered some form of a multiplayer battling system, but the new co-operative play should add a fun new wrinkle that takes the raiding mechanics from Sword and Shield to the next level.

You can watch the trailer below and keep your eye out to see all the new Pokémon that are revealed.

Several English gaming terms are now banned in France

In an effort to preserve the French language, officials in France have banned a number of English video game terms.

Some of the words, including ‘cloud gaming’ and ‘streaming,’ were officially banned on May 30th. These words will now be known as ‘joueur – animateur en direct’ (streaming/streamer) and ‘jeu video en nuage’ (cloud gaming), respectively, according to AFP (Agence France-Presse).

The word esports has also been banned and will now be known as the more complicated phrase, ‘jeu video de competition.’

The French Ministry of Culture says it banned these English gaming terms as they were a “barrier to understanding” for French-speaking non-gamers.

Longtime language keeper, l’Académie française, said it expressed concerns regarding the matter after it released a variety of alternate terms in French back in 2017.  The group has also attempted to change the word Wi-Fi.

The changes were issued in the French government’s official journal, which means they’re binding on all government workers.

Razer announces Barracuda Pro gaming headset, featuring dual connectivity

Razer has announced two new models in the Barracuda headset lineup. The company revealed that the expansion includes the standard Barracuda and the premium Barracuda Pro, both built for PC. The accessory maker also announced a refresh to the Barracuda X headset.

The trio forms a lineup of “street-styled gaming headsets” made by Razer. When looking at the premium Barracuda Pro, Razer includes a number of great features. For instance, the Barracuda Pro offers active noise cancellation, soft leather ear pads and a built-in THX Achromatic audio amplifier.

The Barracuda Pro and Barracuda both support 50mm drivers. This is opposed to the 40mm drivers the Barracuda X and other Razer headsets support. Additionally, the two new headsets offer beamforming mics, supporting noise cancellation.

A core feature the Barracuda Pro offers is the ability to connect to two devices at once. Thanks to Razer’s SmartSwitch Dual Wireless feature, the headset can swap between audio sources with a double-tap of a dedicated button. This offers a unique user experience when compared to headsets that offer the ability to play audio from two connections simultaneously.

According to Razer, the Barracuda Pro and Barracuda both feature a battery life of 40 hours on a single charge. The two headsets can connect via USB-C but feature Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. The Barracuda X, on the other hand, has a battery life of 50 hours on a single charge.

All three headsets are currently available through Razer. The Barracuda Pro is available for $249.99 USD (roughly $316 CAD). The Barracuda costs $159.99 USD (roughly $202 CAD). Finally, the entry-level Barracuda X is $99.99 USD (around $126 CAD).

Ahead of its “late 2022” release on Nintendo Switch, The Pokémon Company are set to show off what is likely to be the first big look at the games. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were first revealed earlier this year. At the time, we caught short glimpses of the Spanish-influenced overworld, locations, and many familiar faces. Though the announcement trailer ended with showing Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, the starters of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Beyond that, we don’t know how much in terms of the battle system, gyms, or the full extent of the Pokémon available. However, The Pokémon Company has been adamant in saying the games feature a more seamless transition between towns and the wild. PSVR 2 may not launch until 2023, mass production to start with 1.5 million units

Sony’s PlayStation Virtual Reality (PSVR) 2 headset may not be ready for the market this year. TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Sony’s next-gen VR headset may now launch in early 2023.

On Twitter, reputable analyst Kuo broke down what he believes is the current landscape of PSVR 2. According to Kuo, his sources state that PSVR 2 is entering mass production during the second half of 2022. The initial supply order is reportedly made to be roughly 1.5 million units.

With that in mind, Kuo claims Sony “may launch it in [Q1] 2023.” Kuo suggests this timeframe is also dependent on the development schedule of the hardware’s launch titles.

Kuo runs through a few other notable tidbits of information. For instance, PSVR 2 features optical modules. This will mark an upgrade from the original PSVR headset, which didn’t. Now, Sony’s hardware feature six optical modules. Four of those are 720P IR cameras and two are for eye-tracking. Genius is said to be the leading supplier of the lenses.

Kuo typically has a good finger on the pulse of the industry. His insight typically lends itself well to analyzing Apple’s forthcoming devices and announcements. However, his supply chain sources likely have a good idea of where Sony’s PSVR 2 may be in production.

However, Kuo has been off in his predictions before. That said, Kuo isn’t the first analyst to predict Sony may delay PSVR 2’s launch until 2023. Ross Young previously predicted the same. Though, VR display shipments are on the rise.

Sony may find itself in a position to begin selling PSVR 2 prior to the holiday season. Given the current landscape of supply chain hurdles and software development, it’s best to air on the side of caution and set expectations accordingly.
