The nominations for the contenders of the 67th annual Golden Globes Awards were revealed this morning (December 15).
The film Up in the Air, starring George Clooney, holds 6 nominations, including one for best film. The drama, which opened on December 11, will compete with a few other big films, such as Avatar, Inglorious Basterds, The Hurt Locker and Precious.
Clooney is also up for a best actor trophy, and will compete with several stars, including Tobey Maguire for his performance in the film Brothers.
In the best comedy race, there will likely be a battle between the two biggest contenders of the category: The Hangover and Julie & Julia.
Actor Matt Damon is nominated in two categories, one for his lead role in the film The Informant, for which he gained 30 pounds. He is also nominated for his role as a rugby player in the Clint Eastwood film Invictus. The film also stars Morgan Freeman as South African President Nelson Mandela. Freeman is also up for a trophy in the lead role in a dramatic film category.
As expected, Meryl Streep has been nominated for her role as Julia Child in the film Julie & Julia. However, the shocker here is that she’s also been nominated for her role in the film It’s Complicated.
The 67th Golden Globes ceremony will take place on January 17, 2010.
