Here are the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet and iPhone 15 Pro leaks from this week

With I/O around the corner, Google’s Pixel slate of upcoming devices has leaked extensively over the past week.

Below is a collection of all of this week’s reports and rumours surrounding the smartphone and tablet world.

Google

Let’s start with the biggest news first. The Pixel Fold’s potential specs have surfaced online. The leak indicates that the Fold will sport 12GB of RAM, a Tensor G2 chip with the Titan M2 security chip. As for dimensions, the handset will allegedly feature an outer 5.8-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 2092 x 1080 pixel resolution. The inner, foldable display sits at 7.6 inches with ultra-thin glass protected by plastic.

The leak also suggests the handset features a 48-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, as well as a selfie camera with a 9.5-megapixel sensor.

Another leak detailed the potential launch and availability dates of the Pixel Fold, Pixel 7a and Pixel Tablet. Leaker Jon Prosser says the Fold will be announced on May 10th, and pre-orders open from Google the same day. However, the rumour suggests the Fold won’t have carrier pre-orders until May 30th and will launch on June 27th. The leaker indicates the handset will cost $1,799 USD (about $2,411.72 CAD).

The Pixel 7a will also come in ‘Charcoal,’ ‘Snow,’ and ‘Sea (light blue),’ and the Google Store will have an exclusive ‘Coral’ variant. The handset will be available to purchase on May 10th. The Pixel Tablet will launch with Tensor G2, Android 13, with 8GB of RAM. It will also sport two storage configurations.

While not part of this leak, another rumour suggested that the Pixel Tablet will come in 256GB and 128GB storage variants. This leak indicated that the tablet will cost around €600 (aproximately $880 CAD) to €650 (roughly $960 CAD).

The Pixel 7a is expected to arrive at retail stores within the next 14 days, according to another recent leak. However, there are no signs of the Pixel Fold (which corroborates the earlier leak of a June launch).

The Pixel Fold will reportedly have the “most durable hinge on a foldable.” CNBC also reports that Google will announce the Fold at I/O 2023 on May 10th. The publication goes on to detail the specifications of the Pixel Fold. The foldable has water resistance, a 5.8-inch external screen and will open like a book to reveal a 7.6-inch display like the Z Fold 4. The Pixel Fold will also weigh about 10oz (about 283.5g) and will have a larger battery than the Z Fold 4, which Google says will last 24 hours.

The Pixel 7a might see a $50 price increase over the Pixel 6a in the U.S., though it’s unclear how much the Pixel 7a will cost in Canada.

Apple

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will reportedly feature frosted glass similar to the Pro models, according to a Weibo user. The frosted glass would make the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus look more similar to the Pro models.

You can learn more about the leak here.

The iPhone 15 Pro is to continue with the Action button, according to a leak from this past week.

The leaker indicates that the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button is going ahead as planned, despite other rumours.

Alongside all these details, the leaker indicates the Action button will be force-sensitive, similar to 3D touch, so it can understand if you’re tapping it, pressing it lightly or hard.

Upcoming Pixel Tablet dock shows up in Amazon listing

A listing for the upcoming Pixel Tablet’s dock was briefly available on Amazon.

The user posted the Pixel Tablet Standalone Charging Dock in ‘Hazel’  for $129 USD (roughly $173 CAD). Before the link was taken down, the description read, “the unique Pixel Tablet Charging Speaker Dock keeps your tablet charged and ready 24/7; and it’s easy to dock and undock.”

Other information from the listing includes the model number, product dimensions (‎6.65 x 3.71 x 2.77 inches,) and weight of 14.2oz (roughly 402g).

Google first announced that it was working on the Pixel Tablet last year in May. It was showcased alongside a unique charging speaker dock and given a 2023 release window.

With Google I/O 2023 just around the corner, many expect the company to officially unveil the new tablet and dock during the conference.

It remains unclear whether the tablet will include the dock in the box or if it will be made available only as a separate purchase.

Google I/O takes place on May 10th, where we’re expecting to see the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7a. Recent leaks indicate the Pixel Tablet will launch with Tensor G2, Android 13, with 8GB of RAM.

Google’s Pixel Tablet reported to launch with 8GB RAM and four colour options

Google’s Pixel Tablet, which was first revealed at its 2022 I/O event, will likely release in June or July.

While we already know a lot about the upcoming tablet, many are still eagerly waiting for details regarding its specs and design.

Now, sources familiar with the Google tablet (via 9to5Google) have revealed new information about the Pixel Tablet, including RAM and colour options.

According to these sources, the Pixel Tablet will be available in a total of four colours, two of which have already been shown off by Google: a green rear case with a black bezel, and a white bezel with a beige/cream rear. The other two colours remain unclear for now.

Further, the Pixel Tablet will reportedly feature an aluminum body with a nanoceramic finish designed to provide a “soft matte look and textured feel.” It will also reportedly come equipped with a Tensor G2 processor, run Android 13, along with 8GB of RAM and two storage options.

Interestingly, the Pixel Tablet will ship with a Charging Speaker Dock. This dock will charge the tablet via the rear pogo pins, with power coming from a jack on the rear. This means that Google will likely not include a USB-C charging brick in the box.

Finally, sources have confirmed that Google will offer an official case for the Pixel Tablet.

With its powerful specs, sleek design, and innovative features, the Pixel Tablet promises to be a game-changer in the tablet market if Google truly commits to the space this time around. We’ll likely learn more about the tablet during Google I/O on May 10th. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Google’s upcoming Pixel Tablet will reportedly feature an 11-inch display

Details about the Pixel Tablet display have been leaked. The leak comes from Kuba Wojciechowski through 91mobiles.

Wojciechowski received the information from shipping EVT (engineering validation test) units to India, which indicates that there will be two storage versions Reportedly, there will be a 128GB model and a 256GB model, and both will feature Wi-Fi 6.

The EVT also indicates that the tablet might launch before the Pixel 8 next year. This makes me think that it may come in the spring alongside Google I/O and the A-series Pixel, or during the summer around when the Pixel Buds Pro released this year.

Further, the Pixel Tablet features a 10.95-inch display, which will likely be around 11 inches when officially marketed. The display will support USI stylus standard —  with confirmation of a USI 2.0 stylus from Google.

9to5Google also says that Google is also working on a second ‘Pro’ tablet. It’s not clear what specs the Pro tablet would use, with the only evidence so far suggesting it would have a different rear camera sensor than the Pixel Tablet. Given how Google has typically approached devices with the ‘Pro’ monicker, the Pro tablet could ship with improvements like extra RAM, a better display, or a better camera system (if not all of those).

The Pixel Tablet is expected to come out sometime next year.

Google Pixel Tablet to have potential stylus input

The Google Pixel Tablet could have a possible stylus input with the product.

Google teased the Pixel Tablet at I/O 2022, though, there is a clue on the Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) website hinting to the stylus input feature according to GSMArena on May 30th.

USI listed a device certified for Google under the codename  “Tangor,” and considering the only tablet anticipated for release by Google is the Pixel Tablet, it would make sense that this is the previously-teased tablet. USI unveiled a version of 2.0 of its stylus system which includes NFC wireless charging with up to 1w of charging and improved tilt detection.

Google also has been a member of USI since 2018, with stylus support on some of their Chromebooks.

However, it’s still not confirmed whether the stylus input will be included in the Pixel tablet.

We’ll learn more about the tablet before its expected release in 2023.

Google unveils Pixel Watch, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 6a and Buds Pro at I/O 2022

While Google’s I/O conference often places a significant emphasis on software updates and launches, this year’s keynote offered a look at more hardware than we’d typically expect.

In order of most to least exciting, let’s get into it:

Pixel Watch

After years of waiting, Google has finally unveiled the Pixel Watch.

While we expected to see the watch, it’s pretty exciting to finally get more details about the wearable. First and foremost, this device won’t launch until later this fall, alongside the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. This means we should expect an October launch for the Pixel Watch.

The watch will run WearOS and features “deep integration” with Fitbit and its heart rate, sleep and fitness tracking tech. While Google didn’t reveal much about the wearable, it did mention that the watch will feature a voice assistant, wallet integration, and support for the Google Home app.

You can learn more about Google’s new wearable, here.

Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

While we expected to see the Pixel Watch, catching a glimpse of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro was a surprise.

Google revealed the back of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices. We don’t know much about these two smartphones, but they both will offer the next generation of the Google Tensor chip, Android 13 and more.

You can learn more about the Pixel 7 series, here.

Pixel 6a

Google has unveiled its Pixel 6a, and while that might not be the most exciting announcement from the keynote, it’s been a full two years since we saw an a-series Pixel smartphone in Canada. The phone will retail at $599 and will be available for pre-order on July 21st and available July 28th.

The Pixel 6a features a 6.1-inch OLED display with a centred hole-punch selfie camera and 60Hz refresh rate, and two 12-megapixel sensors (wide and ultra-wide angle) on the Pixel 6-like visor. Additionally, it sports 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, an 8-megapixel shooter in the front and a 4,410mAh battery.

Check out more details about the Pixel 6a, here.

Pixel Buds Pro

We expected to see the Pixel 6a at Google I/O 2022, but the Pixel Buds Pro are more of a surprise. While the earbuds leaked a month ago, we assumed it would be at least a few more months before we learned more about Google’s high-end wireless earbuds.

The Pixel Buds Pro will cost $259 in Canada. It’s currently only possible to subscribe for updates on the Buds Pro on Google’s Canadian website. We haven’t verified Canadian availability, but in the U.S., the Pixel buds will launch alongside the Pixel 6a on July 21st.

Like Apple’s AirPods, Google says the Pixel Buds Pro are designed to automatically switch between Android devices via “intelligent” audio switching. The Buds Pro are also IPX4 water-resistant.

Pixel Tablet

Google is working on tablets again. This tablet won’t launch until 2023, but we know it will run on the Google Tensor chip.

The front of the tablet in an image that flashed on-screen looks like the display of a Nest Hub. The front-facing camera is also set to be on top when you hold the tablet in landscape, which should be great when video-calling loved ones.

It also seems like the Pixel Tablet is launching in white and green colour variants, but these are probably subject to change.
